Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time exploring Arcata, this house was perfect for our family. If you're a disc golfer, I would highly recommend playing the redwood curtain, beautiful place. Thank you very much for letting us stay at your house.

Inside was good though the coffee pot & some of the dishes were put back in the cupboard.

Outside of property a little dangerous walking in yard to take our dog outside with the gopher holes. The inside was good. 😊

Good for a quick weekend to visit friends, plenty of space and kid friendly. Parking can be difficult for larger vehicles.

Comfy Arcata Hide-Away

  • 5 of 5

It's a little hard to locate, but well worth the effort. A very quiet area, and a fully appointed house made for a great visit to the beautiful north coast. The house was stocked with everything we needed, and more. We look forward to returning for our next visit.

Just So-So

  • 3 of 5

The home is adequate and clean. As mentioned in previous posts the bedrooms are furnished in outdated second hand type furniture with older faded comforters on the beds. Could use some updating. The futon can only accommodate small children as it is very hard and uncomfortable. Note that you will be charged $15 per day extra for every person after 4, including children. This can drive up the "reasonable" cost advertised. As a former Airbnb host, I would never expect guests to do as much cleaning as required when a cleaning fee is charged. The house served our purpose but I probably would not choose to stay here again.

Owner's Response: We are happy that you found the guest house clean and that it met your needs. Thank you for the input on updating the furnishings, which we will work on improving. We do not advertise the room with the futon as a bedroom. It is an extra room with a TV, videos and games meant for children. We maintain that the price is reasonable and can accommodate multiple families, which many of our guests appreciate. We charge a minimal cleaning fee of $50, which is much less than other vacation rentals. All we ask is that the kitchen is clean. We have stayed at many places where the cleaning fee was over $100. Some required that the beds be stripped, the laundry started among other things, which we were always happy to do. Thank you again for your input. We wish you the best.

We had a wonderful vacation and the house worked it just has some little quirks.

  • 2 of 5

Property is not private and the neighbors are very close and loud. Property is located by a low quality trailer park. House is about 15-20 minutes from ocean and beaches which is great. There was a problem with our information and we were charged additional cash to stay there very expensive, we actually paid less last year to stay in a home with a hot tube and an ocean view. Had good water pressure but plumbing is very loud and wakes people up at night. Lots and lots of spiders!!! Advertised as having a grill at the house but you have to request it from owners if you want to use it and they bring to you. We loved the ocean and redwoods and the house is in a good location to reach both without driving forever. We appreciated the use of the house but I don't think we would stay there again, it would be cheaper to stay at a hotel and you would have about the same amount of privacy but more perks. Thank you and wish you the best!

Owner's Response: We are glad that you had a wonderful vacation and that you appreciated the house. It definitely is a great location near the beaches and redwoods. I apologize for having to charge you extra; however, when you booked you stated that one person would be there, when actually there were six. There is a charge for a party over 4 as stated in the listing. The listing also states that there is a grill on request, which we do in order to keep it out of the elements. Often guests will request it before their arrival so it is ready for them by the picnic table when they arrive. Humboldt County is home to spiders which come out more this time of year. Occasionally a few manage to get in the house, but we remove them to their outdoor abode. The house is clean, as other reviews will attest. Thanks again and we wish you the best!

It was the perfect house for our weekend.

The house felt clean and maintained. The appliances were new and in good working order. Our need to park a trailer was easily accommodated and the bonus was we could pedal our Kinetic Sculpture to the start line from there! It was definitely quiet and comfy. Thank you.
