About Jim

We love the beach and purchased this as an entire family (2 parents and 5 children and their children).

Jim purchased this condo in 2009

Why Jim chose Orange Beach

Escapes is a gorgeous property with a first class pool, gazebo, grilling area, and exercise room. We also absolutely loved the large space and size of this property, a lot of people can fit comfortably in this unit.

What makes this condo unique

We love the ability to have a big meal in the dining room with plenty of space to sit and talk. We also love the convenience of many area attractions and of course the beach views!

Big! I mean huge beautiful condo in Orange Beach

  • 5 of 5

This is by far the biggest condo I have stayed in and we had a great time. I will try to give pros and cons below. I did not know for sure if this was on the Perdido side or Orange beach side but coming out of Gulf State Park going into Orange Beach it's about a mile past the Orange Beach sign.

Pros: Size, the size was big. the bedrooms are big with a king bed in one room and queens in the other two. There is plenty of room for 6 and maybe 8 people comfortably if a few are kids. There is a Murphy bed in the kitchen that lets down that looks like it would sleep two small people.

Clean: I thought it was very clean and all of the appliances are up to date and work well.

View: The view from the balcony is great and is right on the ocean.

Price: I understand we went in February so the rates are going to be lower but so are everyone else's rates at other places. The price for what we got was very reasonable.

TV: The TV was an HD Vizio and had Dish Network hooked up which was nice to have.

Bathrooms and Bedrooms: The size was great in the master bedroom and bathroom. In the master we had two sinks so getting ready to go out was not a problem for a couple of people. The bedrooms are all equipped with a TV and plenty of room.

Beds: Well, it was just me and my wife but the master bed was firm to very firm I guess and we slept very well.

Communication from Owner: Jim was quick to communicate with us. I only texted him but he got back quickly on a couple of different occasions.

Elevators: I have been to the beach and the elevators have been horrible. That is not the case here. They worked the whole time and are extremely fast.

Internet: The unit had a hit or miss wifi. I spoke with Jim and he said to get the manager to reset it but it just never functioned right. I have to have good internet for work so I always carry a hot-spot with me so it wound up not being a big deal.

Patio deck: I'm not sure if Jim is in a change but there was no furniture on the patio and that was actually a big deal to us because we really like to sit out there and was the main reason we get a condo that's on the beach with a beach side view.

Overall if I had to rate our stay I would say a 9 out of 10 with the only real downside to the whole thing was the no furniture on the deck. I look forward to staying again.

Wonderful place, can't wait for construction to be done.

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I and our four children stayed at the escapes to the shores two years ago and loved our stay. Last year we stayed at the Phoenix West two and that was very nice as well, but we liked your scapes better because it felt smaller and more convenient and easier to get from your room to the beach and back without having to wait on an elevator or travel a long distance. This year he escapes was under construction and so we missed sitting on our balcony watching the dolphins play however the owner did give us a nice discount to make up for the loss of the balcony and the outdoor pool. My wife and I are early risers so the sound of the construction did not bother us much but if you plan on sleeping in past 8 AM you may want to consider a different location. However if you don't mind getting up before 8 AM and you're looking for a great deal on a beachfront condo and don't care about the lack of view from your balcony escapes May be a good deal for you as it was for us. Construction is scheduled to be completed around August 2017 so if you're planning to visit Orange Beach in the fall this might be a good place for you as well. Hope this helps you with your vacation plans. We love Orange Beach! And will return again

Time to upgrade

  • 2 of 5

This was our 2nd year at this property, last year was good. The condo is nice and large, plenty of room, but there were numerous problems this year. We were never notified of exterior remodeling that was taking place. All balcony doors were locked for the majority of our stay; very annoying to not be able to open the door. Workers from the construction company were very messy, and sometimes failed to secure the guide ropes from the equipment, and 3 times, the ropes were banging against the building all night because of high winds. Security did not seem to have answers to fix the problem. One of the nights, at 4:00 AM I personally climbed over a security fence to gain access to the rope to properly secure it. On 5 separate occasions, the indoor pool was closed because someone had an "accident" in it. I can understand how it could happen once, but 5 times was inexcusable. Security needs to upgrade their methods. The outdoor pool was also closed because it needs work. As for the condo, the living room furniture needs to be replaced. It is beyond bad, we had to put shelving underneath the cushions for support. Kitchen utensils, frying pans, etc. also need to be upgraded. The bedroom furniture is good, very comfortable mattresses. The carpeting in all the bedrooms is dirty and should be replaced. The furnace/air conditioning filter looked like it had not been replaced for some time. The condo has a loads of potential, but time to do some serious upgrades.

Glad to be back!

  • 4 of 5

We had been staying at Escapes for several years in a row and skipped the past two years due to weddings and other vacations. Although we love the location and size of Escapes, I did notice a little wear on this visit. I was always attracted by the immaculate manner in which it was maintained and this has lapsed, unfortunately. We were excited to see that the volley ball court had been replaced as well as the grills. We will still consider Escapes for future vacations but would love to see it "freshened up". The condo itself needs to be replenished also. The tea pitcher had a huge hole in the bottom which we did not notice until there was a huge mess. The unit was very clean and comfortable but is beginning to appear a little worn. We had plenty of room and it was extremely clean. We love the family atmosphere and had a great stay.
