Featherstone's House of the Rising Sun is a completely new two story guest cottage. Professionally decorated and with every possible amenity, it is located on a totally private 1 1/2 acre beach. Away from all noise and traffic and with no electrical or phone lines in sight, you are at one with the sea and the sky.
The downstairs living area includes a full kitchen, dining area and living room with satellite TV, DVD and VCR as well as a sound system. All this decorated in a blend of tropical and Asian motifs. In front is a lanai with seating for afternoon relaxation. Out back, under the almond trees and in your private garden, is your very own hot tub.
Upstairs is a large bedroom with king bed beautifully decorated in the soft, relaxing colors of the sea. There is a large and comfortable window seat for relaxing and reading. Art work by renowned artist, Dawn Rentz, adorns the walls. The bathroom is adjoining.
There is a small refrigerator inside the large closet for the convenience of your cool drinks or snacks while upstairs. Outside this bedroom is a balcony for long range views of the Caribbean Sea that take your vision all the way to Little Cayman to the West and to the bluff at the East end of the island. It is large enough for resting, reading or eating.
Situated on the most beautiful private beach on the island, this cottage is luxury at its best!

About Minnie Branch
By profession I have had, for over 30 years, an executive search firm that is specialized in Advanced Telecommunications. In addition, I have an Interior Design firm that serves the needs of the island community. All my children are grown. My other residence is in Asheville, NC.
Minnie Branch purchased this Cottage in 2009
Why Minnie Branch chose Sister Islands
Cayman Brac is a British owned island and so a friendly and stable government. You can own property here without fear of having it taken away under an unstable government. It is an English speaking culture. There is absolutely no crime on Cayman Brac. The island is still in the top 3% of clean air and water left on the planet. The people are friendly and welcome guests to their island with a generous spirit. In addition to all this, it is a uniquely beautiful island with a bluff that rises to a height of 143' above the sea at the East End. Watching the moon rise from this pinnacle is worth the entire trip to the island. This, of course, does not preclude the fact that you can see the bottom of the sea at 30' or the sunsets that leave a green flash over the water due to their intensity or that the warm, balmy breezes will not let you have a moment of stress left in your body.
What makes this Cottage unique
A vast white sandy beach that invites you to come in and play. A gazebo next to the sea where you can dine under the stars or just swing in a hammock to your heart's content. Your own private cottage where you can sit in your Zen garden in the hot tub under the almond trees or on your balcony overlooking the landscape of the island. Everywhere you look on the property it is gorgeous - the beach, the cottage, the owner's home and all the palm trees, foliage and flowers that abound plentifully throughout the property. There is easy access into the sea for swimming, snorkeling, diving or taking out the 2 person kayak. Planned as a place to rival Paradise on earth, this is the ultimate vacation getaway.

Paradise Found - Private and Enchanting
Minnie is a sweetheart to deal with and truly is a gratious host and it was a disappointment that she was off island when we visited. She really goes out of her way for you and I strongly recommend you use her preferred car rental agency if you are a new visitor to the island.
The cottage has been updated and improved in some respects since these pictures were taken so we were pleasantly surprised. The beachfront is absolutely fantastic and you really feel like it is practically a private sanctuary. Just remember to be realistic about the Brac as it is mostly iron shore (it is not like seven mile beach on Grand Cayman) and you MUST bring those booties to wade in before you slip your snorkel fines on. It can also be windy and a bit rough at times so you need to talk to the locals to find out where the best snorkel spots are when the wind kicks up (there are several cut outs that practically feel like salt water swimming pools if you are not comfortable in the open water). We loved exploring the island and finding those great snorkel spots and the many caves on the island. If you are a diver, I'd recommend the Brac Scuba Shack - I went out with them on five days and look forward to returning - they are top notch. The Brac is not yet a haven for foodies (which is probably a good thing) but there are a few places where you can get a good meal - but to tell the truth, we never wanted to be away from the cottage for sunset as they are absolutely spectacular and most evenings we cooked for ourselves or got take out and took advantage of one the best views on the island - go and enjoy.
Already planning our next visit!!
Oh where to begin. Heaven!! First the island is about as stress free as it gets. The cottage is exactly as described, very clean and well kept. The AC on both floors was welcome during the hot afternoons, but at night the ocean breezes swept threw the big windows and made sleeping easy. The cottage is well equipped for cooking so we grocery shopped the first day and ate most of our lunches at home which kept the costs down. All of the markets are closed on Sunday so if you arrive late on Sunday you can stop at the little snack bar down the street (burgers, fried chicken, pizza, ice cream).
The beach is very private yet has plenty of room to spread out and shady places to hide from the mid-day sun. Be sure to bring surf shoes or booties as there are coral and rocks close to shore. Just go to the end of the dock and plop right in. The water is wonderful.
We are avid divers and did many shore dives while on Brac. The cottage is a short drive to so many great shore diving sites and the dive shop is about 10-15 minutes away. We used Brac Scuba Shak for air and would highly recommend them. Leisle was very friendly and responsive to my questions prior to the trip. There was a little puppy who came to visit us at the cottage every afternoon when we returned from diving and "helped" rinse the dive gear. That's right, great cottage, great diving, and a puppy. What is not to love with that combo!!!
Of course then there is Minnie. Minnie is a gracious host and a joy to work with. She responded very quickly both before the vacation, and while we were on the island. She arranged a rental car for us and Lynne was waiting in the parking lot with key in hand when we left baggage claim. Dropping the car off was just as easy. Just leave it in the airport parking lot with the key over the visor. So there you have it. As others have said, paradise.
Oh Dan! Thank you so much for this wonderful review! It delights me beyond words when my guests find the same beauty and peace at Featherstone that I enjoy. I could just give you the biggest hug for telling the story of you visit with such enthusiasm! I am looking forward to your next visit!
Paradise found in Cayman Brac
This vacation was the first time we rented a house instead of going to an all inclusive resort.Well we hit the jackpot :).The stay at Minnie Branches was so relaxing and BEAUTIFUL.We couldn't have asked for anything BETTER.Minnie makes everything so easy to unwind and enjoy.Highly recommend Featherstone if that's what your looking for. Can't wait to go back. Thanks Minnie.Love Nan and Allan
We stayed at Featherstone for 5 nights and highly recommend it - along with Cayman Brac.
Highlights: great sandy beach area (unusual for Cayman Brac) with 2 inviting cabanas, spacious and clean 2nd floor master BR with deck, hot tub and private patio out back. It was perfect for what we were looking for - a quiet spot to read, relax and enjoy the sun, and a great home base to come back to after exploring the rest of the island.
Tips: rent a car from 4D's - mention that you're staying at Ms. Minnie's place and you might get a deal and they'll take you to Featherstone from the airport, Star Island Restaurant is simple but great food, Brac Reef Beach Resort (great spot for sunset dinner on the patio), and Barry's Golden Jerk on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night. And be sure to plan a day trip or overnight to Little Cayman!
I was just talking to current guests about you two; just how adorable you were and how I enjoyed watching you enjoy yourselves on my beach. It made me very, very happy. Thank you for your kind comments. Please do come see me again soon.
Definitely a slice of paradise - this place, the whole island!
We positively LOVED our stay at Featherstone. We had never been to the Cayman Islands before, and were looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway for celebrating our 10th anniversary. Everything here was perfect. Though the weather was windy and the water choppy the first couple of days we were there, the beach itself was still fantastic for lounging about reading, getting some sun, and overall relaxing. The setup on the beach is fantastic - lounge chairs, hammocks, a fantastically comfy, cozy cushioned lounger that was my favorite for reading in the shade. Cayman Brac is also just a lovely little island. There are great local places to eat, which we balanced with cooking in. It's a quiet, quaint, BEAUTIFUL island - the people are friendly, it is clean, there are beautiful beaches and interesting caves. We took one day to go out exploring, and relaxed for the rest. We had absolutely everything we needed and nothing we didn't (like hassles or stress!). I highly recommend this rental and the island... though selfishly also don't want the secret to get out! We hope to be back... <3
Thank you for this wonderful review! It was such a delight to know that you were enjoying yourselves at Featherstone. I regret that my health issues had me back in the US and I could not be with you and so I am doubly grateful that you loved Featherstone and kept her from being alone.
Please come back to visit again and soon.
A fantastic, quiet getaway for relaxing and recharging. Perfect.
We stayed 10 days in the Featherstone cottage, and loved every minute of it. The sun and the ocean breezes made the property perfect for relaxing, and the cottage itself had every amenity we needed to truly let go.
The property is about halfway along the north side of the island right on the water. We were close to hikes, sights, and everything we needed. Everything on the island is a 15 drive away, and even closer to the house (on bikes) we were also able to find groceries, restaurants, and a great time at L'esperanza.
The water at Featherstone is rocky (like the whole island) but fine with water shoes, and the beach is beautiful and well-appointed with hammocks, loungers, and some gorgeous shaded areas. Very thoughtfully crafted, and incredibly well taken care of by the charming Hank.
We loved this place. Truly a wonderful place to unwind.
It thrills my heart to hear that my guests loved my home! Thank you, David, for this beautiful review. I hope you will come again and that I can be there to meet you this time around. I am happy that the "charming Hank" took care of you. He sure charmed me 20 years ago and I just can't seem to let it go!
Thank you again for your review. I hope to meet you in the future.
