I've been coming to Maui for 32 years. I was initially drawn to the wind sports, including windsurfing and now kite boarding, but there are so many more reasons I keep coming back! I hope you enJoy Upcountry Maui as much as I do!

Great views and awesome house
Mark was a great host and we loved the house
Great property at a great location. Lots of amenities for kids.
We had a wonderful time staying here at Mark's place in Makawao. Off the beaten path so for those looking for a less touristy place, it's perfect! The home is so comfortable and the views amazing. Hope we get to stay here again.
So happy to have Bill and Lori and Pookela Paradise and would love to have them back anytime!
Great place in Upcountry Maui
We have stayed at Pookela Paradise every winter for the last five years. There are several features we find outstanding. 1) Mark is a great landlord. He is knowledgeable, having lived on Maui for 25 years as an extreme sports guy and professional man, also he is friendly and warm hearted.
2) These homes are small enough for one couple and expandable when family arrives for a visit.
3) The Makawao town is antique-y, boutique-y and local ranch-y all in one special place.
4) the view of central Maui from Mark’s deck is why one comes to Maui. We enjoy local coffee while we view the West Maui Mountains and both ocean shores all at once! 😉 amazing 🌺

We have been renting this property for the last ten years. Mark is a good friend at this point. Very good location on the North side for anyone wanting to catch the Paia-Makawao-Haiku vibe and to be out of the resort mainstream. Great location for cyclists which I can attest. Incredible views from the living room that change every morning.
Never booked thru vrbo
Why does vrbo want my opinion on a rental that i booked thru airbnb? Weird!
I sometimes use VRBO for their calendar and management tools, even when the property has booked on another site. Here's the review left by Hank at the site he booked on: "Five stars. Great views. Central location."
So close to all the North Shore beaches, attractions, and restaurants! Perfectly situated between Hana Highway and Haleakala Highway, two of the major attractions Maui has to offer! Only 10 minutes from Makawao Forest!
Staying in Upcountry offers the experience great climate, fabulous views and fantastic Upcountry sunsets! Po’okela Paradise invites adventure and relaxation in the heart of Upcountry Maui. This newly renovated home with spectacular West Maui and South Shore views is centrally located for all your North Shore and Upcountry activities. Ideal for those into water sports such as wind surfing, kite boarding and surfing, consider it your “command post” where you may wake up in the morning and immediately see where the conditions are best! Once you decide where to go, you are only 12 minutes to Paia Bay, 15 minutes to Ho'okipa, 15 minutes to Sprecklesville, and 20 minutes to Kanaha Beach. You will also remain central to all the Upcountry activities such as hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, road biking, zip lines, and sightseeing in Haleakela National Park. This home is a short walk to Makawao Town, which has become a tourist attraction in and of itself: Once a cowboy town, charming and quaint, Makawao now features many boutique shops and fine restaurants.
