Cute cottage in the woods
The cottage sits on the hillside in the woods and offers a nice place to relax. The screen porch was the place we hung out the most, especially in the morning. (Loved the birds.) The rest of the cottage was pretty as described in the listing. With 2 of us, we just used the upstairs bedroom with its adjoining bath and a very comfortable bed. The kitchen had most everything we needed to cook, there was a large dining table great for board games, comfy seating, and a large washer/dryer combo that allowed us to do laundry. Directions were exact. Communication with the host was excellent and prompt. The cottage had plenty of room for us and would be great for a family or two couples. The location was convenient to Great Smoky Mountains NP, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a local golf course.
Why only 4 stars? A couple of reasons. There is a mustiness to the cottage, and it is even more noticeable in the lower level. Had there been more of us in our group, it might have been an issue for those staying in the bedroom downstairs. Secondly, it would have been helpful to know prior to booking the full expectations of a renting the cottage. The very helpful welcome packet we received after renting outlines the things a renter is responsible for, some of which we thought fell under the "cost of renting your home". Specifically, we were asked to bring toilet paper, paper towel, hand soap, and trash bags to replace any that we used during our stay. (Initial supply of these were provided.) I can certainly understand if one uses an excess of any of these, but it seemed as if all replacements were the renter's responsibility. Additionally, we were required to not only bag up our garbage, which is reasonable, but also drive it into town to the municipal collection center or we would be charged extra. Again, this seems to be something that would be included in the cleaning fee.
I don't want these less-than-positive items to overshadow that we enjoyed our stay in the cottage overall. It gave us a respite in an nice place filled with fun, eclectic decor and lovely view. I just wanted to give future renters a heads-up in case it made a difference.
Thank you so much for your sweet review. We try to leave enough "starter" supplies that you don't have to purchase additional. Also, we have to ask for your help with the trash. We can not have trash service at the house because of the bears. They are real and they will find the garbage quickly. I am SO pleased you liked the back porch. It's my favorite place to hang out and enjoy the cool breeze. It was 106 in Orlando yesterday so I'm looking forward to some 50 degree weather this coming week. Thanks again and thank you for staying at Morningstar Cottage.
This property is spacious inside with every thought given to comfort. The house is beautifully decorated. It is close to everything Maggie Valley has to offer, and just a short drive to Waynesville. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
The cottage is as stated. It was clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. Nature definitely comes to you. The bed is comfortable ant the sheets are nice. My experience was very enjoyable and relaxing. Perfect place to get away. Wish I could have stayed longer. Thank you Linda!

HOME SWEET HOME
What a welcoming home. From the min we arrived on the porch, we felt right at home. The location was perfectly situated within the beautiful fall leaves. Although we felt as if we were a million miles away, we were only minutes from everything. The home was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. Although we did not have contact with the owners, we felt very connected with them with their tasteful decor and personal touches. It was very clean with quality bedding. You will not be disappointed. We certainly hope to return soon!!! Thanks for a wonderful fall getaway🍁
Thanks for your very kind review Pat!

About Taylor Plumblee
We are native Floridians and work in Orlando, FL. When our oldest daughter elected to attend college in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, we decided to buy a home away from home for her and for us. We didn't realize that 15 years later, we would still come here and feel the pull of the Blue Ridge. Growing up in Miami, I learned about the Blue Ridge Mountains from my father who was raised in the hills and hollers of Kentucky. I believe that once you have the mountain bloodline...it is a lifelong thing. When my Dad first walked in the house so many years ago, he cried. True story. I know he felt that a little part of him was back "home" and walking the range with his beloved Father. I can relate. Now, we keep making new memories in this home. With our extended family, we love bringing the grandkids to the house and make it to the mountain home as often as our work will allow. I love to go up alone just to reset my soul from the hectic pace of a busy work life. We have thought about selling the house and getting another but we keep coming back to our current location, the design layout, and the feeling of peace. Some things can not be bought and we know this is the right house for us and for generations to come. Please enjoy your stay.

Why Taylor Plumblee chose Maggie Valley
I sell real estate for a living so I know that finding the right home is a process. It's instictive. But for me, I KNEW the minute I walked into the home with my Mother. It just has a great vibe and a wonderful bright design. The home is mostly updated and is not a typical NC cottage. Vaulted ceilings, fireplace, two living rooms, wonderful dining area, and a porch that will call you to sit down and zone out. I was literally blown away by the majesty and beauty of the property that sits on almost 2 acres. We bought the home the next day. My Mother loved the house dearly and the next many years, it was my Mom's favorite place to relax. Life is a battle, life is a series of steps, this home is a place of quite refuge and strength. We have had so much fun, so much laughter, so much joy in this house. This is a home full of love. This is home.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage offers year round living and while not mountain top - it is peaceful, serene and surrounded by the sound of rustling trees and lush mountain settings. It has super easy access to surrounding towns and cities and a driveway that is accessible year round. It is also located in Maggie Valley Club which is one of the premier mountain golf courses in all of Western North Carolina and some great winter skiing at Cataloochee Ski Resort. The location is ideal for traveling to art events, fall leaf looking, arts, white water rafting, mountain music festivals and Lake Junaluska. There is so much to see and do in Western North Carolina and our home is a perfect mountain getaway in a charming and chic setting. The back porch is the crown jewel of the house and where we spend most of our time watching the fireflies light up the Carolnia sky. It's God's fireworks. it's magic.
