Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Our home is located well off the beaten path (4x4 vehicle required) and offers a private and intimate experience connecting with the wonders of the rainforest. Built on a ridge with mountains behind, the home looks over the canopy of our private wildlife preserve project and out to the ocean beyond. The 100-acre preserve is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

Our home's focus is open-air living. It features outdoor dining and living areas, both on the upper deck and at ground level adjacent to the kitchen and swimming pool. The pool, which adjoins the master bedroom patio, has a deck cantilevered over the rainforest. There is also an indoor living area and an office/TV room.

There are three spacious bedrooms which sleep up to nine people (read description under Amenities). A twin bed in the office and a flip-down futon sofa in the living room add sleeping for up to three more people and foam mattresses are available for additional guests as needed.

A true nature lover's paradise, the Rainforest Preserve Lodge and the surrounding Preserve offer so many ways to encounter and experience a wide variety of wildlife - watching toucans, parrots and other birds from the deck, waking to marauding coatimundis in the trees or monkeys passing by. You never know what you'll see next. Our land is in the midst of the "Path of the Tapir", a biological corridor. We are developing a system of trails through the Preserve to enhance the opportunities to view wildlife and witness the exceptional natural beauty of the property. A morning walk with our caretaker (and nature guide extraordinaire!) to Hummingbird Falls or into the mountains is always a magical learning experience.

Our sunset platform, which overlooks 40 miles of coastline, is a great place to enjoy a picnic supper at sunset and look for whales below. The seven or eight beaches within a half-hour up and down the coast each offer a different ocean experience. Swimming, surfing, snorkeling, kayaking to sea caves, boating, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, rappelling down waterfalls or just relaxing are all available close by. Whatever level of adventure you enjoy is waiting for you.

So come and relax in the pool, watch the rainforest come alive in front of you, explore the many wonders that our Preserve, the town of Dominical and the rest of the southern Pacific Zone have to offer.

Above all, feel welcome and enjoy!

About Dalip Khalsa

The owners, Dalip and Cindy, purchased the parcel in 2000 to save it from further development. One hundred acres of the parcel were put aside as a permanent wildlife reserve. Since that time, we have been enhancing the habitat by planting fruit trees as food for the animals and creating hiking trails through the forest. We are grateful when others who share the same energy are able to share in the ever evolving adventure.

Dalip Khalsa purchased this house in 2000

Why Dalip Khalsa chose Dominical

Back in 1996, Dalip attended an Eco Expo in the Boston area where he encountered a company growing tropical hardwood trees in Costa Rica as an investment opportunity. The company was buying up and reforesting large tracts of land deforested by the cattle industry. Some parcels were to be planted with trees for future harvest, with the sale proceeds going to the investors, minus a management fee. With their profits, the company bought and reforested other parcels which would never be harvested and which would create habitat for the wildlife to return to the area.

As an environmentally conscious person, Dalip embraced this concept instantly, took a leap of faith and bought 100 trees on the spot. He then shared this opportunity with friends and family, who also bought trees. Cindy was one of those friends.

Dalip and another friend who bought trees went to Costa Rica in 1997 to visit the tree farm and see the operation for themselves. They fell in love with Costa Rica and especially with the Southern Pacific Zone where the tree farm was located. The tree farm owners had a parcel in the area that was for sale and they bought it. The parcel had already been engineered for house lots, so Dalip and his friend kept a few lots on the ridge and designated the rest of the property as a permanent wildlife preserve.

The first house they built was for a full-time caretaker and the second house is what is now

What makes this house unique

Completely private, fantastic views and wildlife, cozy and delightful!

Amazing location

  • 5 of 5

We just had our trip and stayed 10 nights to lodge.

The location is absolutely amazing, surrounded by the natural forest. It’s a paradise for nature lovers. The house set up is very cozy and well done. It has everything you need. The pool works well if you have kids.

The road up to the house is quiet hard to drive, do recommend to drive only on daylight but you get used to after a few trips.

We love it! And our kids had a very good seeing many birds and animals.

We will return one day!! Thank you for hosting us!

Rainforest

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home not lacking anything. House was set in the rainforest with a beautiful view of the valley with the ocean in the background. The pool is an asset as it allows you to cool down if you choose to spend the day at the house relaxing. The sites and sounds of the valley from the pool deck in the early morning are unforgettable. It was tough to say good by to the property when it was time to go back home.

Incredible natural beauty and privacy

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic stay - wonderful location! This was our second trip to Dominical and exceeded our expectations. The home is nestled amid the rainforest preserve and we saw abundant wildlife every day. A short drive to Dominical - funky surf town - and we spent time at a beach about half the days. Lots of hiking - highly recommend Hacienda Baru for a woods walk. Also did a great zipline in Quepo and a montain hike at Chirippo National Parque. But truly - the house itself provided daily serenity and inspiration for nature and wildlife lovers like us. Thank you Dalip and Cindy!

Amazing vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time to Dominical and it was just as beautiful and amazing experience as our first time 2 years ago. Dalip and Cindy's home is lovely! I could not WAIT to get up each morning for coffee on the upstairs balcony and listen to the rainforest awaken. The pool was of course a favorite for the kids (and me!!). The kitchen is well stocked with anything you would need for cooking your meals and I looked forward to opening it all up each morning!! We mostly ate breakfast and lunch at the house and dinner out. The locals are very kind and Dalip is generous with his information on locations for groceries, restaurants and adventures! Edwin is just about the sweetest man, and although he speaks little English, he's quite capable of communication! I cannot say enough about the wonderful experience we had with our kids, both location wise and the lovely home. Truly paradise... We will be back!

Jungle Oasis with panorama beautiful view!!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow what an absolutely beautiful place this was... We come down every year in Febuary and I sure hope we can book Dalip's home every time! So much space both indoors and outdoors! Even seemed to be an extra room which was the office but had a bed in it too! Outdoor kitchen was fantastic and we had family style dinners nearly every night! Got to watch the para glyders (I think that is what they are called) float by the coastline and catch waves of hot air and rise above the cliffs nearly every day. Iguana's would hang out on the sun deck with us daily. On the last day we a group of 4 toucans right next to the pool! Also Edwin the property manager was so nice and friendly. Our car broke down the 3rd day and we didn't know what to do. Called Edwin and he was there within 20 minutes trying to fix it with us. When we all realized we were not mechanics he called his personal mechanic who made the trip up the steep rode and fixed our car right in the driveway for a very decent rate! Cant wait to come back!!! Thank you for opening up your beautiful home for us :)
