We lived in this home previously and really enjoyed it. However we have moved back to our house in Austin and now get to share this amazing place with vacation renters such as yourself! When it's not occupied we love to go there and relax. Even though it's only 30 min. to Austin it truly feels like a get away and a vacation while you are there. We have 5 children and founded a foster care and adoption agency. Caring for abused and neglected children is our life's purpose and passion!
Owner purchased this House in 2005
Why Owner chose Downtown Association
We wanted a home on acreage that was very peaceful and felt like an oasis in the middle of our hectic lives. However, we didn't want to be isolated or drive a long way to get there! We were so happy when we found Legacy Ranch since it met our requirements and so much more. Our kids say it feels like a castle and it does! However it is only a few minutes from great shopping, bookstores, Outlet Malls, Restaurants, the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers, etc. Also San Marcos and New Braunfels are really neat smaller towns so we always check out what is going on when we want to visit. Of course Austin and San Antonio are both incredible larger cities, and you are about 30 min from Austin and an hour to N. San Antonio so whether you want a day of sight seeing and cultural activities to just want to stay at Legacy Ranch, BBQ etc. it's easy to do it all.
What makes this House unique
My husband and I love sitting on the front porch swing and seeing the incredible views, as well as the night time sky where the stars are bright! The kids love exploring the house and property, and always like seeing the neighbor horses. They built a cool tree house(with an engineer friend's help) and they are always discovering new things since there are 10 acres to explore. There is a huge field that is great for soccer, volleyball, football, etc. There are also huge trees surrounding it for great shade for all of the onlookers and great for picnics too! We all enjoy the huge kitchen and dining since we love to cook when we're all together. The game-room is a great place to hang out, play pool and other games and watch movies, etc.

We had a great time staying here. Plenty of space and beautiful area
The worst VRBO experience I’ve ever had
This was by far the worst VRBO experience I’ve ever had and I highly recommend no one stays at this place. When we first got to the property there were exposed wires all over the property, missing tiles on the floor, rotted out doors, and the direct TV didn’t work, among many other issues. I quickly called the owner to ask for a full refund to get out of the situation, but he refused. He went from defensive to condescending very quickly, and interrupted me with an excuse each time I listed out a concern. Thus, I called VRBO to try to get my money back, and while they were understanding of the situation and allowed me to file a formal complaint (which I did), they had no way to make the owner refund us. VRBO also called the owner, which I think did spur action as the direct tv technician came out the third day of our stay as well as an electrician to take care of some of the exposed wires. It rained a couple days later though, and that exposed a whole set of new problems including a flooded basement, leaking skylights, and one leaking bathroom. Overall, I highly recommend staying away from this place. It’s very run down and definitely not worth your money.
Here is the reality. The renter called me on Sunday morning, the morning after her check in, to voice some concerns. I actually did listen before responding. I stated to her that my maid service had been at the property to clean ( which she agreed that the home was indeed very clean) but that I had not had time to do my personal walk thru of the home. I was made aware of a few damages from the previous renter had done and made a plan to get the issues corrected. I asked for a day to work on her requests and would consider a refund if I was unable to complete them and she agreed. I actually called Direct TV an hour after talking to the renter and than called and texted the renter that a technician could walk her thru a fix over the phone. The renter responded that she couldn't be bothered with a call at that time and that I would have to figure something else out. So I did and had a the tech come to the house the following morning and the problem was resolved. Regarding the exposed wires...it was just a TV cable that just had to be pushed back in the wall, as well as an outlet that also just needed to be adjusted and a small screw tighten. There was no safety hazard at all. In any case I had my handyman at the property the day after I was informed of the issues. He fixed every item that was noted in about an hour and did a walk thru and the renter was happy. The water issues were a result of a major thunderstorm with high winds that happened during her stay so some water did seep into the basement and rain did blow in thru a vent on the roof. However there was no damage/problem at all as stated by the renter. This is not something that any person can prevent its simply mother nature. But to have this renter try to point out that it is somehow my fault is just another indication of the type of critical person I was dealing with. All in all I was very responsive and timely with everything. To say that the home is run down is just inaccurate and a lie. I actually had a brand new Spanish tile roof put on only a few years ago. In the end I did refund her $450 simply as a goodwill offering.
This home has everything you need
This home is the perfect place to host for your friends and family. I rented this home in celebration for my friends wedding so that everyone could be together. Every aspect of the home is wonderful. The host was very kind and considerate of my questions about the home. I highly recommend anyone to stay here.
It Was So Nice... We Stayed Twice
I found this house when searching for a place to host our annual employee conference/retreat. It looked perfect, AND IT WAS!!!! There were to be 10 ladies in attendance and my main concern was for everyone to have thier own bed.I emailed the owner who quickly responded that there were 13 separate beds available to us. I was thrilled that we could all stay under one roof! So in November 2011 our group stayed at the home. It was wonderful, or so I am told....because at the last minute, I was unable to attend the conference. However, when everyone returned to work, that is all they talked about.. how great the house was, and how I had missed out... so there wasn't even a question as to where our 2012 conference/retreat was to be held. We once again rented the home in October 2012 and it was everything they told me it was... and more.
It was great. Very spacious, clean, charming, and close to good food, LOTS of GOOD SHOPPING, yet so close to wildlife. We saw deer in the field beside the driveway. Something for everyone.
We did manage to squeeze "some" work into the weekend. Thank you for sharing your villa with us.
Great and spacious house, exactly what we needed!
We rented this house for a group of 20 girls. The house was ample enough that everyone had a place to sleep and there were some beds left over. Very convenient location, we forgot a couple of things, but the grocery store was less than 10 minutes away!
We had dinner in the downtown San Marcos area and it was just 15 minutes to the restaurant. Tubing in the San Marcos river was also only about 15 minutes away.
The owner was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions promptly. He was extremely accommodating of our needs.
The kitchen was spacious enough to allow for cooking for such a large group as ours. Everything we needed was there, kitchenware, cutlery, etc. Everything was extremely clean.
My group has rented a lot of houses in the Hill Country area in the past, and it is safe to say none of them compare to this one. Will definitely keep it in mind for next time we are in San Marcos!
In summary, beautiful house, great location and a helpful owner!
Great camping location!!!
The property has full electric/water RV hookup, as well as tent camping.
