About Susie Hopkins

I helped build this cabin when I was twelve with my family. My wife and I raised five kids and enjoyed many years at our cabin during all seasons of the year. All of our kids are married with families who also enjoy the mountain.

Susie Hopkins purchased this cabin in 1943

Why Susie Hopkins chose Mt. Hood, The Gorge

Sixty nine years ago my dad along with his parents choose their property in Government Camp because of their love of the mountain. The cabin is tucked away in the woods yet close walking distance to everything the town has to offer. As well as it borders Forest Service land with easy access to a wonderful trail system.

What makes this cabin unique

From Portland it is a short drive of 45 minutes and is within walking distance to Mt Hood Ski Bowl and just out the door to multiple hiking trails on Mt Hood. Walking distance to downtown Government Camp and short drive to historic Timberline Lodge. Activities include winter time downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and summer fishing, mountain biking, hiking and of course sightseeing.

Great place, spacious and well located

  • 5 of 5

Great place, very well kept. There are really 5 "bedrooms", I think the ad could only list 3 because some are small/ windowless but for separate sleeping areas they're just fine. Location is great, at the end of a small side road but so close to 26 too. The main heat source is a wood stove that's complimented by electric wall heaters, we found this quite enjoyable but just to note if future guests weren't expecting this.

I like it when a house can seat comfortably as many people as it can sleep. This house can.

Great Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Clark Family Cabin during the Christmas holidays, 2016. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. There was a total of five bedrooms and three full baths. The home was complete with a little Christmas tree and lights on the outside of the cabin, which was very much appreciated. The owners were very nice and accommodating of our pets. We would definitely stay here again.

Roomie, clean, beautiful setting close to everything fun on the mountain!

  • 5 of 5

The Clarke cabin is secluded from the rest of other nearby cabins, but in walking distance to Government Camp shops. As we arrived, the cabin seemed smaller from the outside than we had thought, however we found more than plenty of room as we entered, with 6 bed rooms (however mostly small but quaint). It was very neat, well maintained and clean. It truly felt like home away from home! We had lots of snowfall the entire time, which was somewhat troublesome when having to leave since we had to dig out the road before leaving but not a huge issue. We would definitely come back!! The owner was thoughtful to send specific driving directions (GPS directions will get you one street over) and helped us find the cabin over the phone after some confusion. Overall a great family Christmas vacation place to stay and a great value!

Really nice home

  • 5 of 5

Our family met at this lovely home to start our vacation together. Big dining area with table to accommodate our family dinners. Also wonderful wood stove to make home comfortable and cozy. Definitely would come again to ski and spend time with family.

The road going into the house site was a little difficult to maneuver in the rental car due to the March thaw but we were able to get the car up the road safely. The road is short so if you needed to leave the car on the road could have also done that and walked to the house. Hope to come back to this lovely home!

Historic Timberline Lodge is a must see. Our cabin works great for large or small groups for winter skiing or summer wedding parties . Mt. Hood Ski Bowl is a wonderful place for wedding as well as Timberline Lodge and our cabin is a great base for either venues.

Mt Hood Ski Bowl is great winter time skiing, as well as fantastic summer time fun with horse back riding , alpine slide , Mt. Biking and Mt. Bike races. Again our cabin is a great place for Mt. Bike groups, Mt. Climbers , fishermen , hikers , skiers, sightseers. We are only one hour away from Hood River great place to visit year round. Trillium lake great for fishing, boating, hiking, and amazing view of Mt. Hood.Be sure to stop in at Volcanoe Cones home of the most famous icecream stand in all of Government Camp.
