About Susie Hopkins

I helped build this cabin when I was twelve with my family. My wife and I raised five kids and enjoyed many years at our cabin during all seasons of the year. All of our kids are married with families who also enjoy the mountain.

Susie Hopkins purchased this cabin in 1943

Why Susie Hopkins chose Government Camp

Sixty nine years ago my dad along with his parents choose their property in Government Camp because of their love of the mountain. The cabin is tucked away in the woods yet close walking distance to everything the town has to offer. As well as it borders Forest Service land with easy access to a wonderful trail system.

What makes this cabin unique

From Portland it is a short drive of 45 minutes and is within walking distance to Mt Hood Ski Bowl and just out the door to multiple hiking trails on Mt Hood. Walking distance to downtown Government Camp and short drive to historic Timberline Lodge. Activities include winter time downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and summer fishing, mountain biking, hiking and of course sightseeing.

Great cabin

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was very roomy and accommodated 6 of us with no problems. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. Great location for downtown govt camp and easy access to some ski trails.

Susie responded very quickly to questions and was very helpful throughout the process.

The Clark Cabin was absolutely amazing!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived, everything was fantastic from the christmas tree to wood burning stove to the amount of seating, it was perfect. We had a fairly decent sized group of family with us on our stay and the cabin had more than enough room in the living room for everyone to sit, there were plenty of beds to choose from, an abundance of fire wood and walking location to literally everything you want to there are shuttles going everywhere and they stop across the street! We will def. be telling our friends about the cabin and our trip with hopes they will come experience what we did. Either way, we will def be back, maybe to see the cabin and area in the summer but if you decide to go in the winter, you will not regret staying at the Clark Cabin!

Very comfortable ski cabin that easily fits two 5-person familes

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely MLK weekend in the cozy Clarke cabin. Lots of comfortable bedrooms made this the best sleeping arrangements we've ever had for our two 5-person families, even in places that were much larger in terms of square footage. The living areas are very comfortable and well organized as well, and it was easy to walk into the town of Government Camp. A real find!

Nice place, great location

  • 4 of 5

A group of 6 of us mountain bikers (3 couples) stayed at this cabin at the end of July. Location is fantastic as it is just across from the Mt. Hood Brewing Company restaurant, but up a gravel driveway from the main road. Mountain bike trails are just off the driveway! The cabin is nice. Furniture is nice and comfortable. Bedrooms are very small but comfortable. Note that there are 3 full bathrooms, but only one upstairs to be shared amongst the 4 bedrooms. There is a bathroom off the kitchen/dining area that we used and that worked out fine. The master has it's own. I'd say this is a very nice cabin. Bedrooms have sloped ceilings, so only one side of the bed cane exited. If you are looking for updated, than this is not it. But, we were comfortable and happy with our stay. If you are staying in the summer, bring a fan for the upstairs. Did not see one provided. Everything we needed in the kitchen and baths was provided.

Historic Timberline Lodge is a must see. Our cabin works great for large or small groups for winter skiing or summer wedding parties . Mt. Hood Ski Bowl is a wonderful place for wedding as well as Timberline Lodge and our cabin is a great base for either venues.

Mt Hood Ski Bowl is great winter time skiing, as well as fantastic summer time fun with horse back riding , alpine slide , Mt. Biking and Mt. Bike races. Again our cabin is a great place for Mt. Bike groups, Mt. Climbers , fishermen , hikers , skiers, sightseers. We are only one hour away from Hood River great place to visit year round. Trillium lake great for fishing, boating, hiking, and amazing view of Mt. Hood.Be sure to stop in at Volcanoe Cones home of the most famous icecream stand in all of Government Camp.
