Amazing Cabin, Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

My group used this cabin back in May 2015. Rick and Lois were so kind and easy to work with; we communicated by both phone and email. Their instructions were easy to follow and once we were in the cabin, we were so pleased with how clean, beautiful, and well-stocked it was. We stayed two nights and enjoyed the different spaces (kitchen, living room, and garage/play room). The beds were very comfy! I grew up visiting in the area, so we went to the Columbia Historical Park and the Redwood trees. Everything was great and I can't wait to go back sometime soon.

Beautiful and charming house with great location

  • 5 of 5

Our family had such a great time at this wonderful house. The pictures don't do it justice! The kitchen is updated, and the rooms are decorated in a rustic style throughout. Our kids called it "The best house they've ever stayed in." The bunk beds and game-room-garage were their favorites. The high-ceiling living room with gas stove, and spacious kitchen were mine :).

The location is perfect. We were right below the snow line, but it was an easy drive to the snow parks and a great day of sledding. The house is only a couple minutes from the highway, but feels like it is secluded.

We are looking forward to staying here again.

Wonderful Family Weekend to Get Away from it All

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay at this lovely lodge. From start to finish, everything was handled professionally.

Location couldn't be more convenient as it was only a 5 minute drive to snow. Being under the snow line made it easily accessible without dealing with chains and slow traffic. This location beats Tahoe in my book! Only 2 hour drive from East Bay Area vs. the 5+ hours we encounter coming home on a Sunday.

The lodge itself is clean, tastefully decorated with every convenience you need. The gas stove fireplace kept us cozy. Kitchen is stocked, the game room was a hit with the kids.

Amazing White Christmas for our family!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to the cabin on Christmas Eve, and since we are originally from Florida my kids have never seen an actual snow fall. When we arrived, the snow was falling and there was 2-3 feet of snow on the ground. We didn’t even unpack our things and immediately started playing and sledding in the snow right in the back yard! Once we did get into the cabin we were pleasantly surprised at how welcoming and clean everything was. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us and all the extra blankets and pillows we needed. The fireplace was used the whole time and was the best part of the cabin.

Everything that was listed and described in the ad was very accurate and the pictures do not really do it justice. The cabin was clean, roomy and had all the dishes and cooking utensils you would need. We did use the standup heater in the garage and played a fun family game of ping pong. The cabin driveway was a bit steep and we needed to be very careful once the ice started forming, but it was cleared and plowed twice during our stay which made and driving much easier.

We had a very enjoyable time for Christmas, got to visit Big Trees National Park and also borrowed the sleds and found a fun spot off the highway to sled. The kids also made a few sled paths of their own right in the back yard and spent hours outside sledding. I would definitely recommend this cabin to all my family and friends and truly enjoyed visiting the nearby towns of Avery and Arnold, they were quaint and had all the shopping and restaurants you could ask for. We had an amazing time and have a lot of new memories and photos to remember for a long time. Thank you Lois and Rick.

A super clean and well-stocked cabin

  • 5 of 5

We just arrived back from our trip to this cabin, so here's a brief review:

It was super clean and well maintained. The owners obviously are careful and detail oriented people.

It had everything we needed. They provided towels, linens, and even hair dryers and curling iron and straightener! I literally never thought of anything they hadn't provided!

It is a cozy and comfortable cabin. The potbelly stove makes the family room a nice place to be. All the beds and furniture and items are quality and comfy.

There were different stations for people to hang out: family room TV area (a nice new flat screen), adjacent to that was a large craft table area, around the corner was the dining room and kitchen, upstairs was a smallish loft that kids could hang out in, the detached garage had a full sized ping pong table and two small air hockey tables. There was also a small foosball game.

The area is beautiful. The big windows allow you to enjoy the scenery. We even saw a deer walk by! It does back up to the highway, but it really didn't affect our stay. You can't really see it well from the house and I don't remember hearing any noise from the inside and it wasn't a distraction when outdoors.

Some things to consider:

We had 8 people (all teens and adults) and it was just right. I think 9 would be snug unless there are smaller children who can share the futon or the larger bunk bed.

They have several movies there -- lots of Disney and a few more adult movies such as Terminal or Love and War. If you want to watch movies there and you've seen a lot of common movies, consider supplementing with some of your own or renting some.

I would definitely recommend this cabin and would consider renting it again. :)

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Emily for your delightful review. We had so much time finding lodge décor and comfortable items for the cabin. We want our guest to feel at home, hair dryer to waffle maker. I have a container in closet for those who need bandage or forgot their toothbrush. Glad your stay was the memorable and hope you will be with us again. Sincerely Rick and Lois Carlson

Suprlatives are nedded! The photos are don't lie.

We had a nephew's "destination" wedding to attend....closest town being Arnold or Muphys...."kids live in Hathaway Pines "wrote my brother. Groan Groan but we have to go. We combined a trip to Yosemite with our stay here and had a great vacation!!

So searching for a VBRO close by my luck was outstanding. This cabin was only across the highway from where the wedding and the kids live. Literally less than 10 minutes by car. The highway is the only negative of this great house (you hear road noise outside but not inside with the windows shut).

The layout is great with a large Master Bedroom and full bath on the first floor. Good size living area with TV's (never turned one on but there were plenty). Very comfy pristine furniture ( not a stain or wear on anything!.)

Upstairs bedrooms, bath and laundry are great...pictures are very accurate . The wifi is fast. There are loads of DVD's, books and games to amuse...and what a bonus a wide assortment of toys ( a grand niece loved the fisher price ABC caterpillar!)

The kitchen was stocked with all appliances you might need including crock pot and waffle maker. Loads of dishes, glasses and coffee mugs. Nice eating area in, as well as eating at breakfast bar and lovely deck, grill and table/chairs. We hosted a spontaneous breakfast for a dozen people the morning of the wedding....Easy as entertaining in my own home.

Plenty of linens.

Everything looked new and was perfectly CLEAN!!!

The owners were responsive to questions, and returned the damage deposit VERY promptly.

Great instructions in the home for heating/cooling, alarms etc.

Felt comfortably at home.

Regret that we live in Michigan and can't return to this cabin every season to enjoy the area!!!

The town of Murhpys and surrounding old mining towns are delightful. Wine tasting was abundant and there is a fantastic bakery in town (they made the wedding desserts.)

We spent a morning in Big Tree State Park and certainly could have gone back given more free time.

If you find yourself in this area definitely rent this cabin!
