About Jeff Greene / Barby Harms / Meagan Graves
Barby and I bought the Island House in 2008 and spent 6 months renovating it ourselves while working in Flip Flops and shorts. That was a great 6 months. We already owned 3 vacation rentals in Long Beach, Md. on the Chesapeake Bay, when we decided to buy in FMB. We work well together with my experience in construction and Barby's interior design and decorating skills. After we finished the main house....we enclosed the ground level garage and shop area and made a very primative owners apartment where we can stay when we get away from our home in Md. We tried renting this space to large families that needed more room, But do not rent this out anymore. We both love boating, paddle-boarding and kite-boarding. Barby is very passionate about the shelling and loves to tell you about her favorite beaches in the area. We have 5 kids and 9 grandchildren, all living in Md.

Why Jeff Greene / Barby Harms / Meagan Graves chose Ft Myers Beach
Barby has been coming to SW Fla. for years with her sister to shell and enjoy the beaches. She took me on a 30 day trip one January starting in the panhandle and exploring all the gulf coast towns along the way. I wasn't sold on Florida until we drove across the bridge to FMB and I that's all she wrote. We love the laid back , casual , friendly atmosphere on the island. All the colorful Keywest like buildings and palm trees. We chose this cottage to fix up because of the great location on the canal and within 2 blocks of the Time Square area. We can walk to 15 different restaurants and bars ,most with live music nightly.
What makes this Cottage unique
We enjoy meeting our guests and sharing our favorite local beaches, restaurants and shops. Relax around our solar heated pool, catch some rays in our lounge chairs, fish from the dock or nap in the hammock. It's all good here at The Island House.

Perfect Cottage in the Perfect Location!
The Island House was everything the photos and write-up promised. A location very close to the beach, restaurants & Times Square, yet nestled just far enough off the beaten path gives you the best of both worlds.
While technically a cottage, two families of four were able to fit nicely during our Spring Break week in FMB. The kids loved the pool and it was nice being able to have chair right on the channel.
The Island House was setup with everything we needed for the week. We used the charcoal grill and blender on multiple occasions
The best compliment you can pay is a reservation for next year ... which is already booked!
Awesome stay, great location, beautiful pool area!
Had a wonderful time! Very close to the beach and Times Square!
The place was nice and clean. It was great to have our own pool. Throughly enjoyed our stay.
The Perfect Escape And So Much More!
What can I say that all the other reviewers haven't already? I echo all their praise for this wonderful get-away! This was our 2nd time staying at the Island House and we can't wait to go back again and again! We love that it's tucked away on an inlet yet so close to all the action downtown, plus the beach just across the street! We flew down and the only time we needed a car was to go to and from the airport, which was great - Uber is readily available. The house was spotless and the decor is so quaint and innovative! We loved hanging out at the pool as well as going out on the town to all the great restaurants and bars, many of which have live music nightly! We had time to kill before our flight home and walked over the bridge to Doc Ford's for an excellent lunch. It was an easy walk from the cottage and the view from on top of the bridge was spectacular. I highly recommend this property to anyone thinking of visiting Fort Myers Beach -- and I'm extremely jealous of them too!
Great place! Serene but 5 min. walk to shops/bars
We stayed here in January with another couple to celebrate our anniversary. The first thing I would say about this place is that it is perfectly located in Ft. Meyers beach. It's peaceful and quiet at the house but a 5 minute walk from the beach, lots of bars, restaurants and shopping.
The back of the property is canalfront. It has a pier, privacy, tropical landscaping, a great pool, hammock etc. We enjoyed hanging out there with poolside cocktails by tiki torch light after walking back from the bars at night. My favorite was the Beached Whale right at the end of the street. Great sunsets from the rooftop deck, steamed mussels, happy hour beer and food specials started off each evening on the right foot.
My wife loved the interior. It was decorated in a beach theme with lots of color and unique touches. The kitchen was well appointed with everything you need. Same with the bedrooms and bathrooms. Everything was clean and well-maintained.
On day 2 we had a local friend pick us up at the house in his boat. From the canal we were in the Gulf of Mexico in just a few minutes. We spent the day cruising around Sanibel and Captiva islands. The water and the islands were beautiful. We ate at a marina/restaurant called Barnacles on North Captiva that was tucked away but worth finding and then beached the boat on an uninhabited island and walked the beaches followed by a sunset cruise back to the house. It was the best!
The owners were great. They were responsive and easy to deal with. The property was about 20 minutes from the airport, Uber worked great for that. While figuring out where to go on this trip we learned that airfare to RSW (Ft. Meyers) seems to be cheaper than other Florida airports so we thought that added to the value of this trip.
I rent places like this 2-3 times each year and this one hit all the right notes. Highly recommend.
Early Christmas present
We loved our stay at the Island House. The beach decor was lovely. The home was so comfortable and convenient. We walked everywhere - 4 minutes to the beach and about the same to lots of restaurants. We enjoyed watching and listening to the fish jump in the canal while we lounged in the pool or pool side. Palm trees around the pool area give the home a nice tropical feel. Satellite TV and internet service were flawless. Wish we were still there!
"AVOID THE HEAVY BEACH TRAFFIC WHEN YOU STAY AT OUR COTTAGE! YOU CAN WALK TO EVERYTHING! The biggest asset of The Island House is it's close proximity to everything on the Island. If you have a boat...our house has a dock you can tie up for the week and be the closest access to the gulf...we are the first canal as you come onto the island. The boating , fishing and shelling are all fantasic in Ft Myers Beach. Barby is an expert sheller and is happy to share her secrets with our guests.
