Waterfront Lake Chalet

Bedrooms 6
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 6 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, 3 Stories (Sleeps 12-14)

The Lake Chalet is an excellent vacation choice because of its layout/large size and its location on the very first waterway of the Tahoe Keys Community with a peek of the lake.

The 6-Bedroom Chalet has Three Floors. There is plenty of room to spread around. EACH FLOOR HAS: 2 Bedrooms, 1 full Bath, Fireplace, HD flat screen TVs. With bedrooms on each floor you can be assured of ample privacy. Bedrooms on the first floor offer convenience for folks who wish to minimize their stair use. Sleeps 12-14 people.

The first floor has an accommodating wet-bar and huge family/gathering room with piano along with a generous steam shower in the bathroom and a separate laundry room.

The second floor has a completely supplied kitchen/dining and another family/gathering room that flows out to a 450 sq ft lakeside deck with BBQ. With an observation view of the lake conditions, one can tell if there are wind conditions for sailing, flat water for water skiing, or white caps to stay off. Other properties in the Keys can't offer that at this price.

The third floor has awesome towering views of Mt. Tallac and Jobs Peak and has a 3rd fireplace.

The Lake Chalet is apx 200 yards from the channel for quick lake access as well as gazing at boats coming and going. With the private dock in the back yard, you can bring your boat, jet skis, kayaks, SUB or rent from nearby Keys Marina. Don’t forget your tackle box!

Your reservation allows you access to an indoor junior Olympic pool with two outdoor hot tubs. Tennis and Basket Ball courts are available as is a children’s playground and outdoor cabana pool at the beach during the warmer months. Take a delightful bike ride through 25 mph neighborhood with no stop-lights.

Winter proximity to world class ski resorts; approximately 6 miles to Heavenly Village Gondola, nearby Sierra At Tahoe, Kirkwood and many others is a convenient amenity.

Central proximity to local activities such as Bijou Frisbee Golf Park and Tahoe Recreation Center with NHL regulation indoor ice skating rink are convenient. Emerald Bay and historic Valhalla are in one direction and entertainment at the Stateline casinos in the other are just minutes away. Other nearby activities includes October Fest at Camp Richardson and Kokanee Salmon Festival at Taylor Creek. Heavenly Village offers outdoor ice skating rink in the winter months.

Average and for us, not worth the rate

  • 2 of 5

Realizing this is Tahoe...folks can charge what they can get especially over a holiday. Understand that. For the same price we paid here, our family stayed in a $3.5m luxury home with 100' of private beach in Miami. That place? A palace. This place? Functional. It was not clean when we arrived. Cleaned cobwebs, vacuumed floors, cleaned countertops and various kitchen appliances before use including the oven. The primary photo that is used to promote the house suggests the cabin is remote. Not the case. You're in a neighborhood on a canal, not a cabin on Lake Tahoe directly as photos "imply". Bring your own firewood. There is none stocked. 3rd floor bedrooms do not pull heat from furnace effectively so bundle up. 2nd floor bedroom...door doesn't work so either wedge something in the door so you can open / close it, or...leave it ajar. Bring comfortable pillows for a decent night's sleep. Be careful with hot / cold water. Do NOT wash dishes while anyone is showering if you want to stay friends with the showeree :). Look...the place serves a purpose. Roof over your head and space for family. Just be super clear about what you want and do more research than we did. Our mistake. We definitely left it better than we found it. Expected quite a bit more for the money.

Owner's Response: We are saddened. It is our goal for our guests come away with great memories of their experience at the Tahoe Waterfront Chalet and perplexed that there was no mention during the several conversations we exchanged concurrent to their stay. Remedies would have been immediately taken. Replaced now are pillows, the defective door knob, and that housecleaner, also replaced. Guests do not have to 'bring' firewood. Firewood is available for use. We place no restrictions to adjustments of the forced air heating thermostat. We want every guest to know we are readily available during your occupancy for any concerns at anytime.

Great location near beach and trails

  • 5 of 5

We came up to stay in South Lake Tahoe at the "Waterfront Lake Chalet" which was very spacious with its 3 levels and nice deck out back facing the water. It is a close walk a gorgeous beach on the lake and the water was great (though a little cool). Some nice hiking trails close, and the Tallac Historic Site is a must see with its museum of some Lake Tahoe history. We will definitely be coming back to stay at this great vacation rental.

Great family vacation!

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at this chalet! Owner was gracious to let us bring our dogs and the size of the house was perfect for us. Having two separate living areas within the house allowed everyone to get some space when they needed it. We loved being close to the water and it was a short walk to a couple of perfect trail areas so we could take our dogs on walks. Our favorite space was the deck. We would start out up there every day end up out there every evening. I highly recommend this home for a memorable Tahoe visit!

We'll be Back!

  • 5 of 5

For our twin grandsons' 12th birthday we hosted the whole family to a Tahoe vacation. We thought the layout of the house was ideal. It has two separate family rooms, too. Of all the lovely waterfront homes we've vacationed in the Keys this house being so close to the channel has an actual clear eye-shot of the lake. We parked our SUPs at the backyard dock and paddled directly out a lot whenever anybody felt like it. We also enjoyed the private beach located right there at the keys pavilion next to the outdoor pool. The booking process was simple. The owners are super nice and quick to respond to our questions. Can't wait to return. So, we got a jump on and already reserved our next keys vacation at the Chalet.

Good value for the price

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the Tahoe Keys cabin and had a great time. Owner was good to work with, responsive and friendly with all our questions.

PROS: There were many nice touches in the cabin. The layout is comfortable, with two bedrooms on each floor to spread out, and everyone loved the steam shower. The main deck is great for the whole group to enjoy, and the little canal right out front was delightful, with easy access for watercraft from the pier to the entrance to Lake Tahoe just up the canal. Lots of lovely birds in the quiet neighborhood, and we even saw a river otter in the canal during our stay! The area has many great options: Skiing in Heavenly in the winter, grocery stores in a nearby shopping district, lakeside access within 10 minutes' drive, and the Pacific Coast Trail for hiking nearby (recommend Echo Lakes).

CONS: There is just a "peek" at the lake; the cabin doesn’t have much lake view at all. There are many roads branching throughout the Tahoe Keys community, and this house is on one of the inner branches of the Keys. Directly across the narrow canal is a gated community with many large homes close together which block the lake view. The photo of the pier and house is taken looking back from that strip of homes across the canal. The photo of the view of Lake Tahoe is a super-zoom of a small gap between two homes where a small sliver of lake can be seen, so it really is only good for checking conditions before you head out. Even from the third floor, the view is mostly of the houses across the canal. And there is no lake access by walking, as the locked gate leading to that gated community is set back on the street before it crosses the canal. The only way of reaching Lake Tahoe's shore directly is by watercraft, and if you don’t have your own for the canal route, you must drive out of the area to another access point to get to the lake. Also, the pool and spa membership access provided are about 45 minutes’ walk away, so plan to bike or drive there as well. I pointed these things out to the owners, and they have updated the listing to more accurately reflect these aspects now.

OVERALL we really enjoyed our stay and recommend the chalet… just beware that the lake view and access is very limited. But at this price the cabin is a very good value and a very pleasant home base for a Tahoe getaway.
