About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-15)

3 story chalet nestled in the Cascade Mountains at 4000' elevation. Fantastic view overlooking Siskiyou Mtns, Klamath Mtns, Colestine Valley and Mt. Ashland. Awesome sunsets!

Perfect for hikers (5 minutes from Pacific Crest Trail and Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument/ Pilot Rock), bikers (dozens of trails from Mt. Ashland down to city of Ashland), skiers (Mt. Ashland Lodge is 15 minutes away), rafters (Klamath River put-in is 30 minutes south) and Shakespearean types who prefer privacy with a view! 15 minutes from Ashland down I-5 Siskiyou Summit.

Chalet has 1000 sq. ft. deck and is located in the Cascade Mountains and built so as not to change the natural surroundings.

Security, cleaning and pet deposit required.

Why the Owner Chose Ashland: This property has been a dream project. I purchased the bare land in 2007 and began construction in the Fall of that year. The Chalet was completed in February 2009. As with all new construction on acreage, the little projects are constantly ongoing! Owner lives on the property, but away from guests for their privacy.

If visiting in Winter months (and possibly Spring and Fall), it is advisable to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle equipped with tire chains. Although 4-wheel drive is not usually necessary, Mother Nature has surprised us with moderate to heavy accumulations of snow!

The Unique Benefits of this Chalet: If you want peace and quiet with a spectacular view, then this is the place for you! Perfect for family gatherings while only 15 minutes to Ashland traveling North on I-5.

Why Paul Steckbauer chose Ashland

This property has been a dream project. I purchased the bare land in 2007 and began construction in the Fall of that year. The Chalet was completed in February 2009. As with all properties on country acreage, the little projects are constantly ongoing!

What makes this chalet unique

The Colestine Valley has its own unique physical climate. It may be raining in the Rogue Valley and the sun will be shining in the Colestine Valley.

Additionally, many people do not know that there is a large Buddhist Temple below the chalet in the valley. I always recommend to visitors to visit the temple for a half day trip. It is 3 miles down Colestine Rd. off the Mt. Ashland access road. Owner occupies a separate part of the property for your privacy.

Take the time to clear your mind and tune in to the positive energy of the valley.

It was not clean. Had to dust and even mop the lofts floor upon arriving and everything above eyes view was covered in dust and spider webs.

Spectacular Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The Sunset Chalet was the perfect vacation rental for my family reunion. Paul was really helpful with last minute questions and the home is beautiful and comfortable, with views in every direction. Sunsets and light... sunrises and light... so magical. We walked on the local road and saw Mt. Shasta from here. I can't wait to come back!

Views comfort and views

  • 5 of 5

We spent a pre Christmas long weekend with family here. 10 people to be exact. Plenty of space and all the creature comforts were afforded. The sunsets are breathtaking art work. Not far from the highway, but secluded from the chaos of the city. A little slice of heaven near enough to tons of fun. The only thing that would have made it better would be to have been able to watch the sunset from the hot tub. Thank you for the great memories. We'll definitely be back.

ashland, or

this property offers stunning views, in addition to being stunning itself. clean, spacious, elegant.

  • 5 of 5

i hosted a meditation retreat for the weekend and we all had a fantastic time. the space really lends itself to a feeling of calm and spaciousness (inner and outer) and was just absolutely perfect. we were there during the first snowfall of the year and were so cozy and warm with the wood-burning fireplace. the kitchen is perfect, the bedrooms are all comfortable and paul even had a number of extra mattresses for our group to use. we had absolutely the best time and i will definitely be using this home again for hosting future retreats. thank you so much, Paul, for offering your amazing house for others to enjoy.

Family Rendezvous

  • 5 of 5

Sunset Chalet was the ideal place to meet up with my family who came from across the country to be together once again. So many things to do ranging from hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, mountain biking from Mt. Ashland down to the city of Ashland, beach time at Emigrant Lake and Shakespeare plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. Very comfortable accommodations and Great Sunsets!

Beautiful and comfortable house! However, the deck railing seems to be dangerous with the wire used

  • 4 of 5

We had an awesome time and enjoyed our stay. This is a beautiful house and setting overlooking the mountains. I would definitely recommend to others.

Owner's Response: The deck "wire" is actually 1/4 inch cable and the breaking load necessary would be 7584 lbs. per cable. The railing system has 9 such cables spaced 5 inches apart to ensure aesthetics and safety. Nobody is going though this cable railing system!
