Bill and Sondra Cownie are former Arkansas residents, now living in Winter Springs Florida. We have 3 beautiful girls We have created many blessed memories with friends and family at the Lodge. Sondra grew up just north of Greers Ferry and we still have lots of close friends and family in Arkansas that help us fill up the Lodge when we 'come home'
Bill Cownie purchased this lodge in 2000
We have traveled all over the country and our home on Greers Ferry remains our favorite place on earth. You will not find a more beautiful lake or setting anywhere. Whenever we paln a family vacation the kids 1st choice is 'Our Lake House'
We are blessed to be able to share our home with others all over the Country. This is a unique, one of kind property on Greers Ferry. Private, 5 acres, Lakefront. Perfect for family reunions or multi family vacations
Couldn't have picked a better weekend to stay there. All my friends were amazed at the cabin as was I.
Great lodge on a beautiful property. Gorgeous lake views, TONS of space to hang out and enjoy being away from the city! Thank you Cownie family!
This was our second time at the Cownie Lodge and it was just as great this time. The house is HUGE and great for the very large extended family that comes together every two years. Most of us are older and the kids are all older so there was a lot of coming and going. The lodge was a great basepoint for everyone to come together for dinners and a stay for a night or two depending on when they had to be at school or work. Its a lovely property and a beautiful lake. Tons of fun in the water with canoes and swimming. We really enjoy our visits there, love Arkansas and can't wait to come back again.
We had a great time at the lodge, everything was perfect for our family get together! There was plenty of room & fun for everyone! The lake was so much fun, we rented boats from nearby marinas & had a blast! We decided to grill out at night because the kids didn't want to leave! We had s'mores at the fire pit & the kids played horseshoes & kayaked & stayed up late in the playroom having foosball tournaments! We would highly recommend for a group get together!
My group of 16 ladies thoroughly enjoyed this vacation getaway! My group does a trip somewhere every year and this year we hit a home run! Thank you for sharing and letting us occupy such a wonderful and accommodating lake vacation home. Yes as in many of the other reviews I have to agree we all loved the restaurant Janssens nearby and had 2 meals there and also enjoyed The Big Mouth Pizza place. We loved that we had 5 acres of privacy and we could giggle all we wanted without disturbing anyone. The back deck was a great place to gather and hang out day or night! Plenty of beds for everyone and lots of space so we were not cramped! The owner and the manager were very accommodating in that they answered any questions we had and made us feel very welcome. If it works out me and my crew want to come back next year!!! I cant wait!!! Thank You Bill and Sondra Cownie!! We absolutely loved being there!! Definitely want to return!!!
The Cownie Lodge is a beautiful property, very spacious, private and secluded. Yet, only a 5 minute drive to the town of Greers Ferry. The well known waterfront restaurant call "Janssen's" is literally a two minute drive from the Lodge. This was, by far, our biggest pleasant surprise! The food was amazing, the service was VERY good and the prices were VERY reasonable. Where else can four people eat a Snow Crab Leg Feast, side dishes, desert and a great fresh salad bar for a $100 bill!! There was also an awesome Pizza Place called Large Mouth Pizza in Greers Ferry.
Back at the Lodge, the multi-bed upstairs great room was perfect for kids who wanted to stay up late playing games and watching TV. The two upstairs private bedrooms were nice for guests. The HUGE Master Bedroom was very quiet and nice. The extra refrigerator in the garage was very handy for keeping that "extra food" that always goes with a lake trip. The "mosquito free" sprawling back porch was very relaxing and actually where we ate most of our meals. We never use our formal dining room at home......sure not going to use one on vacation....lol. We would recommend taking a "deet" insect spray to ward off ticks and chiggers as you explore their beautiful property.
We launched our boat and water toys directly across the bay from the lodge at the Devils Fork Rec Area. We moored our boat off shore at the lodge and managed ok. A dock would certainly be preferred but those are pretty rare on Greer Ferry Lake. I would always recommend going on a trip like this during the week and staying away from the "big weekends" like Memorial Day and July 4th. The water is SO much nicer when you are one of VERY few boats on the entire lake. We left on July 3rd and it was PERFECT. The lake was turning into a mad house the day we left.
We had one issue with the main TV at the property when we first arrived and Mr. Cownie was VERY expeditious in replacing it and making sure everything was ok. My family and I truly enjoyed our time at the Cownie Lodge. We entertained several guests and family members throughout the week and make some very lasting memories.
