About the property

Duplex Studio, Queen Bed, Full Kitchen, Deck, Fireplace, Huge Views

HEART OF THE HILL is a wonderful beach cabin with two fabulous studios with breathtaking ocean views.

This listing is for the A unit, upper studio.

The upper studio, A unit, has two David Schlicker stained glass windows in the vaulted ceilings that add to the panoramic views. It is at street level for easy access if mobility is an issue.

The lower studio, #4472777, is down a short flight of stairs with the same wonderful view. Please check it our if the A unit is not available for your dates.

Located in Oceanside, Oregon, about 9 miles west of Tillamook, Heart of the Hill sits 150 feet above the sand which allows for the watching of whales, birds (Three Arch Rocks, a game preserve, is directly in view), hang-gliders, surfers of many types, and general beach activity.

It's a picturesque 5 minute walk down to the beach on the circuitous streets of Oceanside, a hidden, small, gem of a town with little commercialization, and great beaches and vistas. The Maxwell Mountain Tunnel is a unique gateway to Tunnel Beach and it's agate hunting and tide pools. Netarts Bay is a southerly two mile beach walk.

The house features wood floors and ceilings, lots of ceramic tile, a propane fireplace, private glass paneled deck, complete kitchen, and comfortable accommodations. Heart of the Hill is a terrific romantic getaway spot.

This calendar reflects the A unit only.

Listing #4472777, the B unit, has it's own calendar.

About Ron Young

Ron and Kate met in 1971 at University of Oregon. Ron graduated with a Psychology Degree and Kate with an Elementary Education Degree and Masters in Library Science. We married in 1975.

Ron worked at Oregon Health and Sciences University for several years .He then became a Master Carpenter and worked in commercial building for a decade. He then returned to college and received an Elementary Education degree and taught 6th grade for 12 years. He then returned to carpentry and bought old houses he remodeled and flipped. Kate was an Elementary Education Librarian/Media Specialist for three years then retired to have three children - one daughter and two sons, and 3 granddaughters. In 1983 Kate started her own dry bean soup mix business called SOUPerior Bean & Spice Co. which she sold in 1996 and went back to the library. In 2004 North Clackamas School District cut all library positions due to budget issues. Kate taught 5th grade until 2008 when she retired.

In 2001 we 'found' this property in total disrepair. It took Ron and our two boys 18 months to pour a foundation, totally gut the inside and rebuild, new siding, roof, plumbing and electrical. A true labor of love to bring it to its present glory. We hope you enjoy staying at the Heart of the Hill, a very special place to make memories.

Ron Young purchased this house in 2001

Why Ron Young chose Northern Coast

Quiet, beautiful, slice of heaven on the coast. Great place to get away to relax, walk on the beach, search for agates and rocks, enjoy the tide pools, birds, Stellar Sea Lions and if you're lucky see a whale swimming beyond the rocks. Glorious sunsets throughout the year and maybe a BIG storm to watch.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for making it so easy to visit here. Our second this year! H.O.T.H. demonstrates your high standards of cleaniness and workmanship. My favorite: sitting in a chair looking out those big windows watching the changing seascape! See you soon.

Wonderful two days!!

  • 5 of 5

What a well thought out and well supplied studio. There was nothing we lacked. The view is absolutely stunning; we spent a lot of our down time sitting on the deck watching and listening. Nothing better than waking up to the sound of the surf. We will return!!!

Beautiful View!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent four nights at "Heart on the Hill" to celebrate our anniversary! The studio has everything that you could possibly need. We have stayed in Oceanside before and this is the best view that we have ever had. It was very clean and organized and in a great location to walking to the two local restaurants. We would like to return as soon as possible. Thanks for sharing your wonderful rental!

Perfect, cozy place for 2. Views were spectacular.

So relaxing. It was also convenient to restaurants nearby. Some of the most beautiful country we've seen on a vacation.

Such a quiet, pleasant place to stay. Amazing ocean view!

  • 4 of 5

The balcony is fabulous and that view is second to none. The bed was comfortable and over all the cabin was pretty clean except for a few minor things. Cabin A is nicely decorated and the appliances work well, which was great as we cooked a lot. The kitchen was equipped with sufficient cooking utensils and dishes. The only negative I would have to say is the tight parking situation. It was a little difficult maneuvering our medium sized SUV in and out. But once we got parked, no complaints! For the price, this is a great place to stay for vacation. I would definitely stay there again. Maybe just drive a smaller vehicle.

Loved this view of the Three Arches! Great fun agate hunting at low tide!

Kitchen well equipped. Enjoyed watching the hang gliders and the ocean tides. Will definitely stay again if in the area.

Gorgeous view from nicely furnished and equipped studio

  • 5 of 5

Studio was clean, comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen in case we wanted to cook. Weather not warm enough to make use of balcony but view was gorgeous. Oceanside as a town is pretty sleepy, but took day trips both north and south on Tillamook Coast and enjoyed what we found.

I would rearrange the furniture a bit to maximize the ocean view from the love seat, but that would be a personal preference. Host notified of a planned power outage so we could prepare for it which was helpful.

Perfect for a couple who wanted to spend most of the time at Oceanside exploring the coast.

Car: necessary

Oceanside is a unique village built on a hill, like an amphitheater. The views are exceptional, as are the beaches. Three Arch Rocks, a National Game Preserve, is home to a Stellar Sea Lion colony and thousands of sea birds, and is seen prominently from our houses. The 'tunnel' connects Oceanside beach to Tunnel beach, where rock formations provide tidepools and vistas that are rare on the Coast. Hangliders and Paragliders are often seen sailing off Maxwell Mt., the highest point in Oceanside. Agate hunting is another local activity, while walking the miles of sandy beaches. Whales can be seen regularly much of the year. Bald eagles live nearby, and are also seen regularly throughout the entire year. Good surfing waves are right here, and sea kayaking is also done here by the adventurous. Hiking in the Three Capes Scenic area, of which we are a part, is another activity enjoyed by many. Fishing and crabbing are nearby in Netarts and Tillamook Bays, and of course, in the Ocean.

Other Activities: agate hunting, crabbing, clamming, kayaking, wildlife viewing
