Lovingly Restored Country House in Olive Grove with Vineyard

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,937 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Villa, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

Casa Bianca is part of a wine and olive oil estate (see Casa Bosco Listing Number 132479) which has been lovingly restored and refurbished by its owners. Casa Bianca now offers 4 double bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large sitting room with a sofa bed, entrance hall with a log fire (olive logs provided) making 180 square meters and sleeping max 10 people. Casa Bianca's cool and light internal space is set like a jewel in gentle Olive Groves with our vineyards below the house, and vegetable gardens and fruit trees all around, with jasmine, mimosa, roses and masses of wild flowers all in their season.

Separate fully fitted kitchen and dining area - all downstairs rooms opening through French doors onto terraces and gardens. Three double bedrooms upstairs (2 opening onto large terrace with wonderful views of ancient olive groves and the little Church on the hill) Two bathrooms upstairs (1 with shower and 1 with bathtub). Downstairs bedroom opening onto garden, and shower bathroom.

Off the fully modernized kitchen is a terrace for al fresco dining under a weeping willow tree and in front of the house a vine covered pergola where you can admire the sunny and shady spots in this tranquil old olive grove and the pine and chestnut woods. We will give you FREE our Estate Produced red and white wines and extra virgin olive oil to help you unwind after a long day at the beach or walking the Cinque Terre or shopping in Chiavari Market for antiques or the superb local specialty food shops.

Casa Bianca is only 1/4 mile from the centre of Chiavari which is a beautiful old Ligurian City with excellent bars and restaurants in every square and arcaded shopping streets. A footpath will take you down to the center in 15 minutes where you will find the Cathedral and several old churches and villas and the train station.

Take a train to the Cinque Terre and walk back along the world famous Lovers' trail set above the sparkling blue sea, passing through the ancient vineyards on the precipitous walled terraces. Stop for a swim or a leisurely lunch and enjoy the local wines. In the middle of Tigullio Bay which stretches from Portofino to Sestri Levante, Chiavari is perfectly placed for making trips to Portofino with its exquisite little yacht harbour where you can join the beautiful people in a bar for a Bellini cocktail or sit on the sea wall with an ice and watch the world go by.

Also near is Santa Margherita, a very smart resort with famous fish market and yacht marina, Rapallo a quaint old seaside town, and Zoagli where the sea laps the town square and time stands still. Sestri Levante is 5 kms the other way, an elegant old village on the sea with the romantic sandy Bay of Silence one side and the long promenade on the Bay of Tigullio on the other. Or stay in Chiavari and walk along the wood boardwalk with its gardens and fountains and safe and clean gravel and rock beaches where the children can swim, admire the marina, or sit in a seaside bar and watch the sun set behind Portofino mountain.

Hike less frequented marked trails round Portofino to Rapallo, Leivi, from Ri Alto and the villa, many described in detail by a guest with information at the house for guidance or visit Tourist Information Office or see online walking guides for Chiavari, Liguria

Genoa is 20 miles west where you can explore the world famous Aquarium, the ancient noble palaces and art galleries, visit the theater and shops. Florence and Pisa and Lucca, Milan's Duomo and La Scala Opera,Leonardo's Last Supper etc are a few hours away by car or train and can be explored in a day trip from Chiavari.

There is so much to do and see that a week here is not enough but you can do what many of our guests do - come back again!

Private gated drive thru woods and olive groves to your secluded villa. You can help us make wine and collect olives in season. Tour our old family villa/castle and wine cellar and enjoy wines with us in our shady garden where we enjoy meeting our guests from all over the world. We can arrange a cookery demonstration at the house so you learn how to prepare some of the delicious Ligurian specialities... the teacher's assistant speaks English and has worked as a chef in USA.

A Lovely Oasis. . .

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Casa Bianca. It is the ideal setting. . .in a peaceful area where you can enjoy the birds and church bells, but a mere 15 minute walk to the lovely town of Chiavari, and five minutes more to the train station where you can go anywhere you'd like. My favorite was the outdoor patio. I enjoyed both my morning coffee and my afternoon wine out there. Amazing views.

Upstairs you'll find three bedrooms and two baths (one more bedroom and bath downstairs. . .a private suite!). Spacious and comfortable. There's a patio off two of the bedrooms (doors from the bedrooms open out to the upstairs patio). I often thought that if I was into yoga, this would be the perfect place for it! Large, private, peaceful, and excellent light in the morning. Really nice.

The downstairs is just lovely. I loved the openness and the wonderful windows. Lovely light. Comfortable. The town has a wonderful market, and I loved going down and buying whatever, then coming home and cooking something amazing. (I'm not the best cook, but in Italy, everything tastes better!) The restaurants in town are also great. And great shopping. I have to admit, Chiavari was nicer than I expected. Lovely little town. Friendly people.

Jennifer was out of town while I was here, but Mauro was welcoming and very helpful. I appreciated the introduction to the area and the warm hospitality. I will miss this lovely home and hope to return. Highly recommend.

What a beautiful house in a perfect setting.

  • 5 of 5

This house is in a beautiful setting, close enough to town to walk but in a quiet rural setting.

The house is lovingly restored to have all the modern amenities. The rooms are bright, clean and comfortable. Our host could not have been more accommodating to any of our needs and providing us with olive oil and wine. He truly cares for his family's property.

We highly recommend this property. There is so much to do locally with easy access by car and train.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to welcome you all the way from Canada to enjoy our early Spring here on the Ligurian Riviera... and I hope that your dog also enjoyed the holiday with us and did not suffer from jet lag! We look forward to seeing you here again (as soon as you need some more of our extra virgin olive oil) with best wishes from Mauro and Jennifer Coppola

Relaxing and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our party of six, two couples, a father and his 13 yo daughter, had a delightful and relaxing week at Casa Bianca. Unfortunately the week went too fast. The property was everything we could hope for except for the drive to it from the gate onwards so we just parked at the gate and walked along the well trodden and well lit path to the rental. The house is spacious and had most everything that we needed. Mauro and Jennifer were kind enough to provide us with wine and olive oil from the estate. Mauro was also kind enough to share the bounty of the property with us too and to provide help and advice whenever we needed it.

The rooms are large and fairly well lit with lots of windows. I was pleased with the bedside lamps that I don't always find in the rentals I have secured in my travels. The beds were a little hard but that is common in Italy. The linens were of nice quality. The washer and dryer, yes, I said dryer, worked perfectly. The showers/bathtubs provided a lovely amount of hot water with an adequate spray. We had some minor issues with the wifi but it mostly worked well.

Chiavari is a lovely village that I would love to return to time and time again. I love its proximity to popular tourist sites. I also like the shopping, restaurants, market, the train station and the lovely beaches. What I love most about Chiavari is how it is a real working town and is not over run with touristy sites. Be sure to purchase some gelato at Cremeria Spinola. Yum!

We love the property and this is the second time that we have rented from Mauro and Jennifer. The first time, two years ago, we rented Casa Bosco and we loved it too. I wouldn't hesitate to rent either of these properties again or to recommend them to my friends.

Beautiful Settring

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 6 have only positive things to say about the property and the rental experience. My only gripe is that the weather did not cooperate and was unseasonably cool and wet and that is obviously outside the control of the owners. The house itself is nicely renovated and has a light open ambiance and several outdoor sitting or dining areas for relaxing. What makes the experience remarkable is the beautiful (and large) olive grove and vineyard that the house sits in the middle of giving a real sense of privacy and security. As the whole property is fenced this proved an ideal setting for walking with our dog. There are also the extra amenities such as satellite TV, wireless internet for those who need to stay connected. The walk from the property down into Chiavari is relatively short (about 10 minutes) and pleasant. It is up hill going back, of course, but my parents who are well into their 70's did not have trouble with this. If you are looking for a nice quiet and relaxing place to get away that has convenient access to the Ligurian coast from the Cinque Terre to Portofino. This is a nice option.

From the moment you awake to the sounds of roosters crowing and birds chirping, until you finish your evening sitting in the yard, or by the fireplace you will love this villa. When we first arrived, greeted by the courteous and gracious host as we walked from the entry gate to the front door I felt as though I was arriving home after a long absense. We arrived at the villa by cab from the train station and I felt a bit daunted by the climb we would have from town if we chose to walk. But it was not as difficult as I imagined and was a charming and relaxing way to end our days of exploring the Ligurian coast. It was also a great way to walk off the exquisite focaccia bread that you really must enjoy every afternoon, as it comes out fresh in every bakery. A special treat on the walk back to the villa was to reach the castle tower as the church bells rang, and we could view the sun beginning to set in the sea.

The owners of the villa have really put a lot of effort into making this home as comfortable as possible. Arriving to find a basket of wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, all made by the property owners made us feel as though we were welcomed by family. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay at this property! I will never forget our stay at Casa Bianca.

We can highly recommend this spacious and newly renovated villa. Beautiful setting, three bathrooms, quiet. And lovely hosts. Perfect for three couples or a big family. Great spot for day trips in the area. We went on amazing hikes both south and north of Chiavari, plan to come back. Annelie & Mats, Stockholm, Sweden
