Wonderful Farm house close to town and full of charm!
From beginning to end this was a very easy process with the owner.
The home is very close to town and suited my groups needs very well.
Most evenings we all sat in the living room chatting around the fireplace.
Cozy and comfortable without stress.
I will for sure rent this house again next year - and some of my friends already inquired about how to rent through the year.
Walking distance to the Bear Cafe.
Quiet, cozy, affordable.
A wonderful house for large groups/families
This house was ideal for our large group that included three families with small children ranging in ages from 2 months to 7 years plus a few couples. There was plenty of space for everyone, and the house was very comfortable for all. There was plenty of space for everyone at the table for meals, and we especially enjoyed the fireplace in the evening. The owner was very easy to work with, and the caretaker was wonderful as well. All in all it was a perfect weekend - thank you so much! We hope to return.
Great house, plenty of room for large groups.
We stayed at this house for 5 days while our kids were showing at HITS. It was a great find!! Plenty of space for everyone, clean and very easy to get to. The owner was very fast and easy to work with and we loved the little town of Woodstock. We will be booking this house for future horse shows.
Excellent location and very nice accomodations
This house was ideally located for our family and friends coming from New Jersey 1.75 hours, Philadelphia 3 hours, Capital District of NY 1.5 hours. It is an easy and direct 10 miles off of the NYS Thruway coming from the North.
The house was very adequate for our group of 12-14 adults with total privacy for four bedrooms and semi-private for 2 others. 2 bathrooms served us well. The house was very clean and ready for our weekend stay.
We prepared all of our meals on-site and with the exception of needing large cooking pots and a good knife (we brought them from home) the kitchen was well stocked with all that was necessary for a full meal prep and sit-down dinner for 14.
Great hiking trails, streams for trout fishing and the Village of Woodstock close by kept us busy. Porch sitting was our main event as we watched deer cross the road and a lone bald eagle entertain us as he hovered overhead.
We will definitely return if the opportunity presents itself.
Charming and wonderful home for large groups
Our group absolutely loved this house! There were 13 of us and the moment we walked in everyone was commenting on how much they like the decor, style, and old-fashioness of this spacious rental. We spent most of our time in the living room playing board games, watching movies (blu-ray player was available), and cooking in the kitchen (modernized). The house was already warm when we walked in! There were also new large load laundry machines. We forgot to use the fireplace but wish we had! We were very very comfortable and highly recommend this place to any group.
Awful smell- not as charming as described
- Nice location- 5 min drive to Woodstock/ easy to find
- plenty of space/ bedrooms/ futons etc.
- good kitchen
- the owner was easy to deal with
- air hockey table
- Hideous smell. At first we attributed the smell to the house being old and tried to find the "charm" in it but really it was hard to dismiss. The smell stayed on all of my clothes and everything had to be washed immediately (including jackets). Perhaps the house had smokers for generations.
- beds were just OK. One was really lopsided.
- although the house was mostly clean, the floors proved otherwise. Our socks were filthy from walking around with only socks.
- Many of the games were missing pieces
I would not recommend this house to a friend or relative.
While we are terribly sorry to hear about your negative experience, we appreciate you recognizing how easy we are to deal with. All of our guests have our direct number and are encouraged to call us should any issues arise during their stay. We find that most issues can be satisfied within two hours. We have been renting for ten years and dedicate a great deal of effort to providing a pleasant experience for every guest. We thank our reviewers for their invaluable feedback.
Our house is old. It is natural for an old house to have certain oddities that some guests may be un-accustomed to. We make an effort to be transparent about this in our listing.
The floors are 150 year-old, resurfaced hardwoods. They are beautiful, and add a lot of character to the home. Although never a subject of complaint in the past, they do release a mild, but somewhat sharp scent of old wood. Smoking is not allowed in the house, but it is a guest-house and there exists the possibility that some of our guests may not realize the importance of refraining from smoking indoors. The care-takers, who did not notice any unusual or offensive odor, are a wonderful couple who live next-door and make every effort to ensure the house is clean and ready for our guests.
There is always room for improvement. A less than positive review, while unsettling to receive, affords us an opportunity to view our home in an impartial light. We plan to take full advantage of this opportunity.
