Our family lives in Hunterdon County in New Jersey. Michael is an electrical engineer, Madeline, a teacher and owner of a preschool center. Daughters, Cynthia and Heather are co-directors of the child care center, Jennifer is an R.N. and son Jim is still in school. Michael and Madeline have 7 grandchildren. Although we are all very busy, we still love to get away to the beach house as often as we can, which is not often enough.
On our first trip to the outer banks, we fell in love with the beaches, the horses and the tranquility and within the two week period that we were vacationing there, we bought the property. Two years later we had built the house. We had been looking for a vacation spot for years. Every summer we would travel to a new location and scout around to determine if that was 'the one' but to no avail. Finally we had found it!
Wonderful spacious home, beautiful ocean views!
Home has two master suites, which was perfect for our family. The house was clean and well furnished. We loved the reverse floor plan and spent every morning on the deck watching the amazing sunrises. It was a very short walk to the massive beach where we were often treated to a parade of wild horses(breathtaking) We plan on making a yearly trip to this beautiful home!!!
The only complaint is that the week flew by to fast. The house was great, the beach was beautiful. The ride from the hard road to the house on the beach was great. It was very easy access from the beach to the house. The hot tub was great. My wife and kids loved the horses. Early Morning and early evening we were always graced with the presence of several horses in the yard. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a great escape from the hussle and bussle of the downtown area. You are definitly secluded at this end of the beach. Again, a great time was had by all. I will recommend taking your tires down to 15psi of air. Only got stuck one time going in with 4x4 excursion. Someone stopped and said let air out of tires. Which I forgot to do before we went in. Didn't have another issue after that.
The house is beautiful, spacious and well kept. The views are fantastic. I just purchased a Jeep and this was a great beach to test out its capabilities. The kitchen was well equipped for anything. We only ate out one night at a local resort in Corolla. The gas grill seems brand new. The air conditioning works great! There was a heat wave at the time but it kept up without any issues. There are wild horses everywhere. One night we went out for a sunset drive on the beach and six stallions came running over the dunes to the ocean. One day a different group of horses visited us where we camped out at the beach for the day. On a calm day I went snorkeling and was amazed at the amount of crabs and fish I could see. I came within 20 feet of a dolphin feeding on a huge school of fish that looked like a dark cloud on the surface of the water. Great beach for kite flying. I have not had such a relaxing vacation in years. We hope to be back soon.
We had a wonderful time here! We came with our daughters and our dear friends who also brought their daughter. The house is beautiful, light filled, clean and airy. Fabulous views from inside and all of the decks. The house has a reverse floor plan (living room, kitchen and dining upstairs, bedrooms on the floor below) which allows you to get a great view up and down the beach, right from the living room! The beach was a quick walk (less than 5 minutes I would say). Our daughters loved the hot tub and went in it every day. The horses visited us and put on quite a show! In short, we will always remember our vacation here. I would mention that it is the 4 x 4 section of OBX so you really need to make sure you have the right vehicle. Our 4 wheel drive Honda CRV made it, but if you don't have a really powerful vehicle you need to make sure you time your trips in and out to coincide with low tide. Even that was an adventure though. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!
As we drove up to this house to start our stay, we found our parking space taken.... by wild horses. The house itself was very nice, great views, plenty of room for my family of 6 and my sister and her kids.
My daughter and niece absolutely loved the wild horses, we even had 4 of them hang out for 45 minutes in the carport. We saw dolphins and even sting rays while swimming.
At first we were a bit worried about the 4x4 access and 7 miles in seemed far, but in the end we decided that the distance was actually a big plus, not just for the wild horses, but also because the traffic on the beach was so much better than the places closer in. Remember the beach is the main road, and while you still had to check for cars here, it was by far less invasive than many places.
One other tip - the fire/rescue station is just a few blocks away, they sell soda, ice cream and other snacks and make a great little break. We stopped there after kayaking from the caravo beach park/ramp ( we also did ocean kayaking right by the house).
DON'T be frightened by the outside appearance - a little weather beaten and could use some sprucing up (I'm sure from the hurricane!) - decks could use a good power wash (our feet were black after walking on it) - but it is wonderfully laid out and lots of + lounges). Home is as beautiful as pix. Lots of screens missing and torn (again, sure from the hurricane) - but it was so hot and humid - we kept the air on anyway. Home interior is beautifully laid out and decorated. Comfy and stocked with anything you could possibly need. Pots & Pans are top rate (not the cheap stuff in most rentals) and more plates, etc than we could use! Had 8 adults and 3 children - never ran out! Did one load of dishes a day and had plenty. Last day - the dishwasher leaked some, but ran it again and it didn't happen, so not sure what was up with that. Overall, this place is amazing and I would recommend it. WATER PROBLEM - house and water smelled like rotten eggs (sulfur). Called management Co at 5:30 on Sat - no answer (was supposed to be there until 6). Called 1st thing Sunday and they said someone would be out - waited until 4 and called again - THEN we were told they didn't work on Sunday. Called Monday morning to get a time, and said they couldn't give one. After several calls - finally someone came at 1 ish. (think it was closer to 1:30) - problem fixed easily, but then too much chlorine in the water. Son lost 2 pair of shorts and a top to bleach stains. After that, we only washed whites and lights. We still wouldn't drink the water. We brought a Brita and were able to use that to make coffee, but still hard to drink. We went through 4 cases of water and 5 gallons. Management co just not as responsive as we would have hoped in this situation. Other than that, had no other issues. The hot tub (which got LOTS of use) was great and was serviced during the week. Plenty of room to roam and loved, loved, loved the open floor plan - where kids could play - we could hang out, cook, watch movies (although the internet and direct TV was a little sketchy - but we did have 5 different computers running at the same time) and all feel connected. The beach and ocean views were amazing, as well as the horses - which came right up to the house. MUST have a 4wd vehicle. No way a car can make it! We had 3 of them and the 4th vehicle we kept at a local parking lot (which is permitted). You must let out air fm tires - which is a pain - but worth it!
Castle Connection is located in the beautiful Outer Banks of North Caroina about 7 miles up the beach. There is no road, which makes your stay unique and exciting! You must have a 4-wheel drive vehicle to access the beach. The Outer Banks offers pristine beaches with an abundance of wild life incuding wild horses. The horses can be seen grazing in the dunes or standing in the surf. During the spring and summer months many colts run along after their mothers. It is an interesting sight for young and old alike.
