About Mario Cornejo
Hi! this is Mario, your host. I was born in Peru but grew up in Southeast Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal). Also lived in London and back in South America before moving to the States. I received a BFA in Dance and Theater from the University of Florida and danced professionally in the US and Canada for some years. Moved to NYC in 2008 and live in the Lower East Side just blocks from this property. I split my time between managing a yoga studio, dancing and choreographing and running FOOD FOR LIFE, a community organization that serves meals to the hungry and homeless of Lower Manhattan at Tompkins Square Park. I’m also a member of M.I.L.E (Music Is Love Exchange) a network of artists that help disadvantaged children and families in the highlands of Guatemala and a Regional Coordinator in Peru for ONE BILLION RISING, a global campaign to end violence against women and girls.
Mario Cornejo purchased this Studio in 2011

Overall lovely experience
Clean, spacious, and a better mattress than I have at home. We arrived later than expected and they were very accommodating. It was a few blocks to the subway and a calm contrast to the busy city. We walked a short way to the Tenement museum and had dumplings at Venessa’s. The patio was lovely . We ate takeout from Katz Deli there one evening and stored leftovers in the fridge. They stored our luggage in the office on our last day because our plane left late. Our only complaint is small. Since the room can sleep 3 there were only 3 plates and cups in the kitchenette. A 4th would have been nice when we ate with my son and his girlfriend. We made do. It was overall a great stay. Thank you.
Thanks for staying with us and for this lovely review. And for your feedback. I love all the neighborhood tips! Have a wonderful rest of 2109, happy New Year and keep us in mind for future visits to NYC.
Truly a Sanctuary in the Lower East Side
I'm a veteran VRBO traveler, and have been coming to NY twice a year for about a week for the last 20 years. Sanctuary NYC is among the best apartments I've ever booked through VRBO. Super clean, quiet, peaceful, well-appointed, and spacious for a studio. The staff are terrific--friendly, respectful, responsive, and caring. Stanton Street is a wonderful lower east side neighborhood with tons of everything within easy walking distance. The F train is a 3 minute walk. I will definitely book again! Thank you!

Great home away from home
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Sanctuary. We stayed in Shiba, 2G. Zach and Mario were very helpful! I always received a fast response if I needed assistance. I would definitely stay again. There are several places to dine in walking distance. You will not be disappointed!!!!!

The Lower East Side is the oldest neighborhood in New York City and presently one of the most fashionable in Manhattan. Once the home for working-class European immigrants, the LES has become one of the trendiest areas in the city full of cool boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, yoga studios, fashion stores, health food stores, art galleries and live music venues. Iconic artists like Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen used to live on our street and countless movies and TV shows are filmed around throughout the year.
Just blocks away is the Delancey/Essex Subway Station and a quick train ride to Midtown (Union Square, Flatiron District, Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) or Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO). A few minutes walking and you can be anywhere Downtown: East Village, SoHo, West Village, Little Italy, Chinatown and East River Park.
