Overview

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Club Red is located on a beautiful, white sandbar on Red Creek. It has sandstone-colored ceramic tile throughout the house except for the bedrooms, which have beige Berber carpet. The great room's glass wall looks out over the creek and sandbar. It is located two miles from Wiggins on a 3 acre lot which is very quiet and secluded. The cabin is raised 14 ft., and is not handicap accessible. There are chairs and tables and charcoal barbeque pit underneath the cabin.

The cabin has two levels. On the first level, there are two bedrooms. One has a king size bed and the other, a queen size bed. There is a full bath in the hallway on this level. On the second floor, there is one bedroom with two full size beds. In the loft area, there is a daybed without a trundle and a half bath. There is also an outside shower and toilet on the bottom level where picnic tables and bbq pits are located.

In the summer, the creek is normally about two- to four-feet deep and is perfect for tubing, kayaking or canoeing. It is a five-hour canoe trip from the cabin to Highway 49. It is a one-hour canoe trip from Highway 26 to the cabin.

There are lounge chairs available that are perfect for sitting in the creek and visiting with friends or building a campfire on the sandbar and watching the stars.

In the winter, the land takes on a different beauty. The leaves will begin to fall after the first frost and the woods become a great place to hike and enjoy nature. The wildlife that has been seen in the winter are turkeys, deer, squirrels and a beaver.

If you get enough of the peace and quiet, there are casinos on the coast - an hour away. In Wiggins -two miles away, Pine Burr Country Club offers golfing with the most reasonable green fees in the area. At Blaylock Park in Wiggins, there are tennis courts free to the public. Also in town, there are a few antique shops and some interesting eateries.

The Desoto National Forest is a controlled game reserve that provides fine hunting and numerous nature trails.

About The Owner

I grew up in Stone County and it was always a special reward to go to 'the creek' on hot summer days, when all the work was done....

I graduated from the University of South Alabama and got my Master's from the University of New Orleans and retired from teaching a few years ago.

I enjoy the outdoors, kayaking, planting my flower gardens and smelling the roses.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1995

Why The Owner chose Mississippi

Red Creek is just a special place. Children especially love it....and it brings out the kid in all of us.

What makes this cabin unique

It is almost a necessity to be around water in MS when the weather is on the warm side.... My favorite thing to do at the creek, besides kayaking, is to get the water shoes on and walk the creek, checking out the sandbars. Many times I have found interesting artifacts....petrified wood, antique bottles that have washed up from the floods, turpentine vessels, just to name a few....

I love building a fire on the sandbar, walking in the woods, and looking for the different wildlife in the fall and winter.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time with loved ones. The children played hard all day. They canoed the creek over and over. Thanks for the memories here in your beautiful, secluded cabin. Awesome time!

Notes:
Red Creek has been described in The Times Picayune as: ....a laid-back adventure. 'Paddlers exploring the gentle, caramel-colored waters of R ed Creek near Wiggins, MS, may find the most useful paddling stroke is no stroke at all. Often paddlers need only relax and drift inches from the rippled sand bottom. The contrast between the nearly white sand and the darker tannin-stained creek water gives Red Creek its name. Plan on traveling about 1 1/2 mph, not counting stops, while on the stream. Because of numerous sandbars, inviting stops for picnics, swimming, or just lounging in the sun, a shorter trip will offer the most relaxation.' The creek will flood after heavy rains, but when it recedes, this is the best time to find driftwood and petrified wood. It is perfect for kayaking and can be canoed, but blow-downs, trees, and logs in the creek, will either have to be steered around, or dragged over, depending on the water level. It's always an adventure.

Away from the World

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is beautiful. Having an outdoor deck on which to gaze at God's creations in the quiet, tranquil forest with only a slight gurgling sound of the flowing water in Red Creek is so soothing. Inside the decor is appropo with ample sized rooms, comfortable mattresses, and a toilet on each of the 3 levels. All the conveniences of home plus. The only drawback is the number of mosquitoes, but in the South, when one is near fresh water, the little buggers are plentiful, and we had been rightfully advised to bring OFF. It helped. On the sand bar and in the creek, the mosquitoes were not bothersome. My son, daughter-in-law, grandson, wife and I had a most enjoyable stay. The town of Wiggins is only a short drive away and there are several good restaurants at which to dine (also, the typical fast food places), a Wal-mart and a Dirt Cheap. We breakfasted at the Sawmill Restaurant one morning and had dinner at

Perico's Mexican Restaurant one night. We had a great 3-night stay at Club Red's Beach House.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a wonderful review. I'm glad you and your family enjoyed your stay at Club Red. You are right about the mosquitoes in the South, but this has been an exceptional season due to the flooding rains that have happened in the last months - leaving a lot of standing water. I'm glad you brought the OFF and graciously dealt with the inconvenience. Thank you for treating the cabin as your own. It was left in immaculate condition. Owners truly appreciate guests like you and your family. Nora

The property is amazing! The house is roomy and the open floor plan works really well. The view from the deck is gorgeous. The sandbar beach offers a lot of outdoor fun. Everyone is friendly and a pleasure to be around. Can't wait to go back!

Great get away

  • 5 of 5

This is a hidden treasure. Middle of nowhere yet 10 min from whatever you may need. We sat on the creek with a bond fire til 1 am. It was great. Cell phone is spotty, but that was a plus. Will rent here again.

Great get away.

  • 5 of 5

Everything was very nice, well stocked, and clean (this is coming from someone who usually stays in 5 start hotels). I usually do not write reviews but this was really a great time, made some memories with the kids and really enjoyed ourselves. We brought a canoe and paddled up the creek to find some really nice beaches.

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful property.

  • 5 of 5

I read all feedback before renting the property for 3 nights. To be honest, you have to experience it to understand it.

This is a cozy beautiful home in the middle of Wiggins MS, a few far neighbors and the creek from your sight. Our kids had a blast! We went running, tubbing, we camp outside the house, we swim, and before we know it it was dark again. Time flew! We dance around the fire at night after the kids went sleep, and listened the serenity only the nature can bring. No cars noise, poor cellular signal, great weather and the owner answered all my texts quick and kindly. We can't wait to go back again.

We did not have kayaks in the property but in my opinion tubbing is more fun! Specially when you are vacationing with kids.

The house at itself has towels, linens, utensils, condiments, a few food cans, soap, lotions, personal items as well as hair dryer and washer and dryer machine. My only recommendation for anyone is to bring mosquitoes repellent and candles for insects, also water shoes and extra tubes because when tubing there were many branches on the way.

There is a Walmart 12 miles away in case you forget something at home.
