Large, beautiful home on the Ridge
This is a great 3 level condo that is, as mentioned by other reviewers, well appointed and in great shape.
It is a perfect rental for a mature family, as the adult kids can have their own floors with their own kids in another room. There was a slight mix-up with the number of beds in one of the room's but the owner quickly corrected. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
But for this review, I wanted to provide some more notes/info for potential renters to clear up access...
- It is easy to ski in and ski out. To ski out, you can ski from the back of the house down a short, but steep slope (see pic on main listing which shows back of house). This connects to the Attridge Run Out. Or if this is too steep, you can walk three houses down to an earlier portion of the Attridge Run Out accessible from the road. A competent green skier should be able to handle this.
- Once skiing out, you can take the Alpine Meadows chair to ski to the main village or down to the Silver Queen chair to take a run out to the village. If you need tickets, they sell them at the Silver Queen chair where people also buy tubing tickets and/or skating. Or you can buy them at the base of the Summit chair (you may want to verify if this ticketing spot is open daily). Lifties have been known to let you take the chair to get to where you need tickets.
- At the end of the day, it is easy to get back. Green level skiers can just take Criss Cross from the Alpine Meadows Chair or Summit Chair and merge to the Attridge Run Out and get off the run out at the overpass (where I mentioned a green-level skier can get onto the run out), or Blue level skiers can take Split Decision to the run out, or take Lonestar and at the very end of the run, before the underpass/road, you duck through the trees which will bring you right across the street from the place (my preferred method once discovered). The owner will tell you all about these.
- Walking from the village would be possible, but it would be pretty long. Likely 20 mins. You would walk out of the village and walk up Spencer Lane where there are steps up to the Attridge Run Out. This would be the most direct route if walking home late from the bar (though not likely sanctioned by Silver Star as they don't like people walking on runs). Google maps says this walk would be approx 1.4 km.
Thanks very much for your kind review and comments. It was a pleasure to host you and your family.
Walking to the village is best done in the evening when the lifts close and there is no skiing on the Attridge Run Out. The path is lit and it is enjoyable to do on snowshoes. As far as I know, it is intended as a walking and access path to the village apres skiing. The path is also a direct route to Tubing and Skating activities. This is typical of access paths to the Village on the Knoll area as well....pedestrians need to be wary of ski routes when the lifts are still open for skiing.
Large, very well appointed, great service, on the hill
This condo has lots of room, an incredible view of the valley, and is so well appointed. Excellent kitchen utensils and cookware, each room has it's own bathroom, hot tub off the main floor is clean, a perfect temperature, and a great view. Multiple TV's, speakers in built, and a laundry room. I'm glad we had cars as coming back from the village on skis is a slog :) But parking in the village is free and ample, so we just drove down (5 mins) and back at days end. We didn't hear the neighbors at all. Silver star itself was great with downhill/cross country options, outdoor skating, tubing that is hilarious fun. Very entertaining and peaceful when you want it. The owner was very nice and easy to deal with. If you like to cook, value good cookware, and want a place with enough space to enjoy your group while having alone time, this is it.
Beautiful home, inconventient location.
We stayed at this home during the first week of Jan. 2012. The homeowner was terrific to deal with and the home was beautiful and spacious for the seven of us. We chose this home because it was new and because each room had an ensuite and a tv. It is a very well equipped, luxurious home and the view is fabulous. The home is three levels so be prepared for plenty of stairs. The ski in/out access is not suitable for beginners so half of our party had to drive to the village each morning. That was disappointing. It should also be noted that the home is not within reasonable walking distance of the village by virtue of both the distance and the steep elevation of the road. This is the nicest home we have ever rented at Silver Star which, in our minds, makes up for the somewhat inconvenient location. We would stay there again.
Great property, great owner, could not ask for anything more!
My husband and I are renting this property for 7 weeks in November and December 2011. After almost 5 weeks here, I feel very comfortable writing a review on the property. The house is brand new, very well appointed and immaculately kept. It is very conveniently located for both downhill and cross country skiing. A groomed run is right behind the house, the Silver Star village center is a 4 minute drive away, the Sovereign Lake Lodge is an 8 minute drive away. The owner is extremely nice and always available, he could not have done more to make us feel welcome and at home. This is a very special property, which we are thoroughly enjoying and highly recommend!
