Villa Tamarindo is one of three villas at Sendas del Mar which lies in a two and one half acre gated compound on the beach at Barra de Potosi. The beach is an unspoiled nine mile stretch of white sand on the Pacific coast of Mexico fifteen minutes south of the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo International Airport.

The villa is a 500 square foot architecturally stunning palapa with bedroom (king bed convertible to twins), in-suite bathroom, seating area, kitchen and private patio. It directly faces the ocean. The kitchen includes full sized refrigerator and four burner gas stove with cookware and utensils. All the water is purified. Maid service is included.

The property has over three hundred feet of beachfront and the ocean is literally 100 steps away. A nearby point shelters the beach from open surf and provides gentle waves, perfect for swimming in the 80 something degree water. The three villas at Sendas del Mar (check website) share a beachfront infinity pool, a shaded pavilion with a full sized pool table and 3000 sq meters of grounds with tropical gardens, water lily pond and orchard. There is a large parking area inside the walls The caretaker family lives on the premises and provides cleaning and security services. Onsite staff can help make arrangements for massages, private cook, fishing, golfing and surfing outings as well as sightseeing trips to nearby Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa.

Sendas del Mar is a five minute walk from the village of Barra de Potosi with its restaurants and grocery stores and its famous seafront seafood enramadas. It also offers kayak and paddle board rentals and boat tours of the offshore islands and the lagoon, which is a birder’s paradise.

About Gunnar Erickson

We are a retired American couple dividing our time between this beach property and our home in San Miguel de Allende.

Gunnar Erickson purchased this villa in 2007

Why Gunnar Erickson chose Barra de Potosí

We have seen most of the coast of Mexico; this is one of the last unspoiled stretches that has easy access to international airports and is near developed tourist areas with all their amenities.

What makes this villa unique

Barra de Potosi is the epi-center of laid back. It is a quiet village where most of the men are fishermen, launching their pangas off the beach every day and hand lining snapper and pargo offshore. Nature is everywhere from the pelicans diving in the surf to the turtles nesting on the shore. If you want to get away, this is away.

Wonderful Place to Rest and Relax

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days at this lovely casita. The view and sound of the ocean were spectacular. We loved our walks along the beach, by the lagoon and around the village. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. This was an extremely peaceful and relaxing place to stay. The casita was clean, well cared for and had everything we needed. It is indeed a "Beachfront Paradise" as advertised. We highly recommend it and look forward to visiting again.

Total relaxing week in Barra de Potosi

  • 5 of 5

An excellent week relaxing without a care in the world. The accommodation was exactly as stated, as were the views. Everything we needed for the week was available. Any questions or concerns were taken care of by T & C (on site couple that look after the accomadations) immediately. The lagoon was a great place to explore for an early morning start. The locals were very friendly and we had so much fun improving our Spanish and helping them with their English. The food in the village was 'Mexican' and was delicious.

We definitely want to make a return trip in the future, weather was great, accommodation great, food great, everything was great!! The perfect place to relax and recharge the batteries.

Gunnar & Barbara's place was both exquisite & splendid! The hospitality was fantastic & Tito & Carmen went above & beyond to ensure all was taken care so one could simply enjoy the beach & relaxation time. Barra de Potosi's beach life was not only serene & tranquil, but one of the best relaxation spots I have visited in Mexico. Thank you & Cheers to G & B!

A paradise we will never forget..

  • 5 of 5

We have been going south for many years and have had different and wonderful experiences but none as relaxing and surreal as Sendas del Mar. Upon entering the compound, the beauty of the surroundings and warm air immediately took our breath away. Our home during our time there was Villa Tamarindo with its brilliant architecture and delightfully decorative layout and color scheme. Everything we needed was provided. Dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, wine glasses, blender, fresh towels…..We couldn’t ask for more.

Every day we woke to the ocean view from our king size bed, and of course freshly baked rolls dropped off by Titto the resident care taker who is there for your needs day and night along with his beautiful wife Carmen who makes everything look Immaculate !

We also would have visits from the kind and gentle pets that would grace us with a good morning tail wag each and every day.

We enjoyed dips in the ocean and walks along the beach to the enramadas (open air restaurants along the beach) for lunch, laid by the infinity pool, dined at the local restaurants.

We would also like to add a few things about Barra itself. The people are genuine, loving, caring and their way of life is simple. The children are innocent and inquisitive and a delight to be around.

The naturalness and simplicity of everything gives you a great peace of mind.

Respect the people of Barra, keep the beach and surrounding area clean and enjoy nature at its best.

We cannot wait to return to this natural piece of paradise.

We Hated to Leave the 'Last Best Beach'

  • 5 of 5

When you arrive at the gates you know something special lies behind. Each villa is special in its own right; one would think a landscape architect designed the grounds, they are so well matched to the building form but Gunnar and Barbara get all the credit. The property is not simply an architectural masterpiece but a work of art and, as we sadly drove away at the end of our week-long stay, we were still marveling.

Coming from an Alberta winter, you can well imagine our goal was to spend as little time indoors as possible; what better way to do it than to have your living space partially open? We were thrilled to discover our little casita came with daily housekeeping and maintenance from on site manager, Tito, and his lovely wife Carmen. We had great fun practicing our Spanglish and Carmen, in particular, was very interested in improving her English. Tito was up bright and early each morning supporting our daily breakfast habit with a delivery of fresh rolls to our door. I would be remiss if I didn't mention our other guests, Tali, Scamp and Snow, the resident dogs and cat. I suspect they would have ignored us had we not arrived stocked with tasty treats to entice them to our door.

What cannot be overstated is that it isn't just the property that goes well beyond one's expectations; it's the hosts, Gunnar and Barbara. While always conscious not to invade the privacy of their guests, they each offer up their special brand of opportunities that made our stay all the more enjoyable.

Would we return? In a heartbeat!
