About Todd Barretto

My wife and I love Texas! I was a custom home builder who built our dream home in the heavily wooded area just north of Houston called Magnolia. We enjoy the outdoors and have designed our home to take advantage of the warm weather of the gulf coast area. The small town of Magnolia next to the big city of Houston is the best combination of both worlds for us.

Todd Barretto purchased this house in 2005

Guestbook comments from the owner

11 members of my large family spent the weekend at this spacious, luxurious home this past weekend and loved every minute! We had a dinner for 29 people on Friday evening, then sat around the firepit visiting and making smores. Saturday morning we were up early for a long hike around the property and neighborhood. Then we tried our luck with fishing in the small lake on the property. We were sad to leave for the birthday party that brought us to Houston in the first place..., everyone wished we could celebrate here instead! Late Saturday evening, we enjoyed watching movies in the comfort of the media room. What a wonderful weekend get-a-way!

Beautiful home!!!

  • 5 of 5

I planned a bachelorette weekend for my best friend and about 10 other girls and we stayed at this home for a weekend in September/October. The bride wanted a low-key, relaxing weekend with friends at a house with a pool and we could not have found a better match. When we arrived, this home was very clean and welcoming, check-in and out instructions were clear and easy to follow, and the property was perfect for accommodating our celebration! We had everything we needed. The lit up deck area out back and the indoor theater were my personal favorites! Thank you so much Todd and Karen. I would certainly recommend your home to friends and family for a fun, relaxing getaway!!

Country Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Great place to relax in the country with family. Spend the days around the pool, walk in the woods, or just play games with the family. This property had everything our family needed. The kitchen is well stocked and the room configurations made it great for our family of 11. Wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

My very first unpleasant interaction with a VRBO owner out of ten plus stays.

  • 1 of 5

I rented this property last month for the advertised outdoor amenities for a 60th birthday party. I told the owner upon reserving that this was the purpose of our visit and reminded him via e-mail before our stay that we might have a few more than his 15 person limit. He said "no problem, thanks for letting me know". (We had 14 in the end) I envisioned grilling, hanging out on the deck, swimming in the pool and fishing in the "stocked" pond, etc. With so many good reviews, how could I go wrong?

Suffice it to say, I blew it. We arrived in the late afternoon after a long day of travel and grocery shopping to find that the back deck was ankle deep in old leaves, the patio furniture was very dirty, the pool floor looked filthy and the grill was disgusting (beyond dirty and super rusty) and the pond was covered in algae. Since there were no fishing poles, I can't say with certainty whether there were any fish living in it nor am I an expert on whether fish can survive in really stagnant water (a non functioning aerator sat in the center of the pond).

I phoned the owner and expressed my complete disappointment with the outdoors and he was VERY offended and defensive. His response was "what, do you want your money back?" I replied "of course not, I just wanted you to know that I think you could have gone to a little effort cleaning up for our arrival". To his credit, he did show up the following morning to blow the leaves off the patio, wipe down the furniture, make a cursory effort at scraping the old food from the grill grates and to assure us the pool wasn't dirty, just old and in need of being refinished. He told my father that the leaves were the result of recent rain and implied we were just being unreasonable. However, it rained very hard during our stay and the leaves didn't return. It was simply a lack of courtesy maintenance".

The owner has since accused me of not following "house rules" and of "failing to communicate" with him, although he acknowledged that I left the house "very clean". No explanation for these accusations, however, and I'm left baffled. I can't imagine what communication he expected, in fact, it seems I communicated too much by conveying my disappointment! Perhaps I should have called to thank him for coming over to do what should have been done prior to my arrival? As for the house rules, all I can think of is that I did not have time to wait for the dishwasher to finish and unload the clean dishes!

Owner's Response: We appreciate all our guest feedback as we constantly strive to provide our guest with the best possible experience while staying at our property. Both my wife and I started renting our property on VRBO 5 years ago. This decision was not a financial one, but rather a way for us to share our property that we have loved so much with other families who enjoy the privacy and tranquility that you get from our heavily wooded property. Over the years we have loved sharing in the experiences and all the nature it provides to our guest whom many of them stay year after year. Over the 5 years, this is the only real negative review we have received and we take it very seriously. We understand that we cannot please all people at all times despite our best efforts. However, we do try to make sure every effort is done to resolve any issues during the stay. With Tricia and her family, as soon as I received the call I offered to come over to take care of any issues she may have. We cleaned the furniture and blew off the back patio with leaves. We have weekly lawn service who does a great job with the property, but when you live in the middle thousands of trees, you do get plenty of leaves. The pool water clarity was crystal clear when I arrived. I can only imagine Tricia was referring to the slight discoloration of the plaster at the bottom of the pool. We have weekly pool service on this property and are always willing to send the pool service back out upon request which I explained before leaving. The grill did appear dirty from the previous guest so I was happy to use the grill brush provided next to the grill and clean it for them as I try to do between each rental. Our pond was stocked with fish in 2004 and continues to provide a great habitat for fish, turtles, birds and many other wildlife that roam among the wooded acers. It is a "natural" element of our property and its condition can change. As Tricia mentioned, I did offer a full refund to help resolve the issue that she did not take. To my wife and I, your enjoyment is much more important than money and we do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable. Our only problem with our guest was that she allowed pets inside the house without prior permission. Though we do allow pets on this property, we ask that you provide us knowledge that you will be bringing a pet and an additional deposit may be requested. Sincerely, Property Owner

Beautiful home & property!

This home worked great for our large family. The location was easy to find and we really enjoyed being able to stay together. The kids enjoyed the pool, pond & media room! I really enjoyed the kitchen! We would definitely stay here again!

The house is on an estate and very impressive setting and house.

We had a BBQ among old friends and all were amazed at the quality of house available for a weekly rental. We enjoyed the home.

We rent through VRBO often and often there are several things missing, especially in the kitchen, not this time. My wife loved how stocked the kitchen was. We had to purchase a lime squeezer, but they had a cherry pit remover, which I had never seen before. One item I loved was the kitchen had a nice ice machine, which was very handy to have.

We did have an issue with the media room, but it was an easy fix.

You will enjoy your stay in this lovely home and 5+ acre estate.
