About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

WELCOME

Visit our charming custom-built apartment tucked away on 4 acres in up-country Kona. The apartment, with a private entry is located below our home and at the end of a long driveway allowing for privacy and seclusion. The property “looks like a park,” according to one guest, with expansive lawn areas, lush landscaping with ohia trees, tree ferns, antheriums, and other tropical plants. In our fenced pasture live our 5 goats and our baby donkey, "Bunny Ears."

BEDROOM AND BATH

The peaceful and private master bedroom is decorated in a tropical theme and features a queen-sized bed. Travertine covers the floor, shower, and antique cabinet in the bathroom, which includes a tub shower combination.

SITTING ROOM

The sitting room has a queen-sized sofa sleeper for two additional guests and features a 32” flat screen plasma HDTV. It is adjacent to the kitchen and opens on to the spacious lanai.

LANAI

From the sitting room, step out onto a vine-covered lanai looking out to views of the Kona Coastline, the perfect spot to enjoy the garden and 'plein air' dining. The lanai is furnished with a teak dining set and two comfy wicker chairs.

KITCHEN

The kitchen is small, yet sufficient, set up with a small refrigerator, cook top, microwave, coffee maker and necessary kitchen supplies for cooking and dining. Enjoy the granite countertop and lovely window that looks out to the yard and coastline views.

About Christine Carlson

My husband is from the beautiful island of Maui. I have lived in Hawaii since our wedding and am grateful that we were able raise our 4 children in this lovely place with its rich culture and lush surroundings. I am a retired teacher and my husband is a retired rancher now doing development consulting. We like hiking, swimming, golf, tennis and the ocean. 'Lucky we live Hawaii.'

Christine Carlson purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Christine Carlson chose Kona Coast

We opened our rental in 1995 in a private apartment below our main house. We rented it to guests for several years and recently our son and daughter-in-law lived in it for about a year. They have moved on to their own home and we are open for business again. I love sharing our lovely property and the Kona life style with guests. The rooms were recently renovated to make them even more beautiful and comfortable for our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for the lovely pace to stay for the past 2 nights. We enjoyed it very much and thank you for having the best spot on the Island. If we are fortunate enough to return to Hawaii someday, we will definitely book in again. We loved the sheep.

Beautiful and tranquil place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My son and I stayed here for a few nights, and it was such a comfortable and wonderful place to be. Every morning my son would spend time exploring outsid before we took off for the day--he particularly loved when Foxxy was around to play with. What a beautiful home and property!

Great place to stay near Kona, up in the lush hills and away from the heat.

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I had our first visit to Hawaii and our first stay with VRBO. Neither disappointed. Comfortable and quiet accommodations had everything we needed, including excellent coffee which is a must for me in the morning. Lush grounds, less hot than at sea level, lots of calling frogs and birds, and their sweet dog Foxy to greet us. Christine was a great host. Bed was very comfortable and the lanai has a nice view of the ocean. I would recommend this place and would come back again.

A beatiful mountain home with a beatiful view of Kona and the Ocean.

We enjoyed our stay and found everything to be adequate. The lanai, yard & grounds were exquisite, as was the sunset view. The beach and snorkeling supplies were great. We didn't get to know the owners very well because they were very busy, as were we. They were very welcoming and always reachable. The property was clean and we would recommend it.

Great getaway, great hosts.

  • 5 of 5

This place is incredible! It is set up on the mountain above the airport(no airport noise, quick drive) in the rain forest where the temps are a bit cooler at night. If you are outside at night you are treated to the beautiful sounds of Hawaiian birds cooing back and forth. The lanai is perfect, outside table for breakfasts and dinners... amazing ocean and sunset view. We had our 11 month old daughter with us and the hosts were kind enough to not only leave out some baby books but also invite us to participate in their easter egg hunt. When we needed more towels they delivered them promptly. My only recommendation to the owners would be to upgrade the mattress, for taller folks it's a little soft.

Overall, pretty much perfect experience here and the price is great too. You will not be disappointed you chose this property to stay at!

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

This vacation rental was just perfect for what we needed for our stay in Kona! Christine and Carl were kind hosts, and it was great to have Foxy welcome us home every day. The property was peaceful, quiet, and had everything we needed. It is about 10-15 minutes up the mountain from town, but considering we explored other parts of the island during the day, it was a good location to get where we wanted to go. We enjoyed watching the sunsets over the ocean at the end of the day, sleeping with the windows open at night, and having coffee on the porch with Foxy in the morning. Overall, I would absolutely stay here again!

Best home and hosts

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have a wonderful time at Christine and Carl's house. They are nice people with very good taste and their house is sooooo ELEGANT. The one bedroom apartment is very clean and cool place with a beautiful garden. Lying in bed, I can see the red flower on trees. Every morning I step out of the house, their dog Foxy will be there welcoming me. It such a sweet and lovely place. We love it very very much!

Christine and Carl both are very nice and helpful to accommodate us. At the same time, they give us plenty of privacy. Foxy is very well behave dog with very sweet personality. I couldn't say enough good things about them and their lovely dog and beautiful house. We will definitely come back in the future!
