About Sue

Sue and Karl have been homesteading on Nantucket for the past decade. Karl has been coming to the island since he was born, to visit and work with family. He is an accomplished builder and wood worker. Sue is an artist and home maker and together they have created a rental house that has been called "human", "cozy", and "delightful" by its many happy visitors. The house is characterized by its warmth and unpretentious style.

Sue purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Sue chose Nantucket

When we found this spot on Nantucket it stood out. Aside from the fact that it provided a little "elbow room", the property is flanked on two sides by horse paddocks (we have found the horses to be very agreeable neighbors). Set into a hill, the house sits comfortably in its wooded surroundings and yet is only three miles from downtown Nantucket.

What makes this cottage unique

A short walk down a wooded dirt road and across the dunes to watch the sun set. A quick bike ride to Surfside Beach on paved bike paths. A four minute drive to downtown shops and restaurants.

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week for a wedding and vacation. It's a quiet, relaxed, cool spot compared to the summer heat and crowds downtown. The vintage wood and beautiful craftsmanship make this a very cozy place. The owners are super nice and helpful. We will definitely make this our go to place on Nantucket

It's a perfect escape.

FANTASTIC!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here Labor Day weekend, 2013. This home was perfect for us (4 20/30 somethings).

I particularly loved the refreshing smell & serenity of the greenery- trees & flowers etc, that surrounding the property. And with one of Nantuckets most beautiful beaches just a short walk away.

I absolutely loved it, and hope I am able to revisit.

relaxing vacation in a charming setting

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this lovely home in a quiet, secluded setting on the Island. We loved the house, expecially the beautiful wood and attention to detail in the home. The house is situated in a peaceful environment bordered by horse farms. The backyard is large and private making it an ideal place to grill, socialize and relax. The house is a short walk on a wooded path, over the dunes to a spectacular beach. We look forward to our next vacation at this home.

Wonderful Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

A great family retreat! We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful post and beam cottage. It is quiet, private, and in a perfect location! Close to Surfside beach and an easy ride to town! The yard was large enough for many family yard games and our children LOVED the neighbor's bantam hens! The home is well cared for, clean and cheery. The location was private and we definitely felt that we were away from the tourist scene. This is a great house for those who love the south side of the island. I highly recommend this house!

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We visit Nantucket every summer but this was our first stay at the Post and Beam cottage. It was the most relaxing vacation. The house is at the end of a road and very quiet in a wooded area. You are close enough to town to not feel out of touch. We walked to the beach each morning, spent the day doing things around the island and every night ended up cooking on the grill, relaxing on the back porch. We are definitely going to be staying here from now on! It is a beautiful home with all the comforts of home.
