House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible day bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)
Excellent in-town location with easy access to nearby boat landing & fishing dock, neighborhood park & playground, dog park and walking distance to historic downtown. Our home was originally built on the Marine base at Parris Island as a barrack. It was moved to Pigeon Point Road in the 1950's. We purchased the wooded lot next door to our own home in 2001 and moved the home on it & began major renovations. The community is a quiet, residential community bordered on two sides by the intra-coastal waterway. It is friendly and perfect for walking, biking & fishing. The original design of the home is commonly referred to as a 'shotgun house' -- long and narrow. Upon it's arrival to our lot, we began renovation adding two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a full kitchen. It's evolution continued as we could manage with our second phase renovation occurring in 2008 to accommodate our aging parents. More space and comfort was created by adding two bays - one with windows creating a light-filled dinning space overlooking flower garden & bird feeder; the other houses a cozy gas fireplace in living area. A walk-in shower was added to one of the bathrooms. Extension was added to the rear of the home allowing us to add two walk-in closets and expand the screened porch for outside (bug proof) seating adjacent the outdoor grill. A coat closet was added in the hallway between the kitchen and dining room and doubles for extra storage. The home is now a full functioning house with roomy cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans, heart-pine flooring throughout -- complete with claw-foot bathtub off the master bedroom. Each room is painted a yummy color compatible with the lowcountry surroundings and colorful backdrop for our installation of Eric's oversize lowcountry photographs throughout the home - ever reminding guests of the extraordinary wildlife and natural beauty that surrounds them.

About Jan & Eric Horan
Jan and I have been residents of Beaufort since 1996 and love it. Eric has been photographing nature & wildlife since college and establishing a commercial photography business throughout the southeast. Jan is a partner in the photo business bringing her artistry as writer, editor, office manager, pubic relations along with her gourmet cooking, gardening, tailoring and tennis & yoga coach -- whatever is needed! We met on Hilton Head Island in 1990 when Jan was bringing artists into the area schools, grant writing for the local arts council and raising two youngins. Our first venture together included partnering Jan's grant expertise and my recent photos from Africa into a traveling exhibition. A successful tour later led to marriage. Our travels and adventure continue. We love living on the coast and treasure the unique blend of rich cultural opportunities with extraordinary natural beauty and resources all around us.
Jan & Eric Horan purchased this House in 2001
Why Jan & Eric Horan chose Pigeon Point
This house, built on Parris Island was later moved to Pigeon Point community, and now resides on the lot next door to our own home. We moved it here when it was in pretty sad shape, did not even claim ownership to it when neighbors would walk by it's earliest stage ---but we could see it's potential. We planned the ultimate fix up would be something special. A house different from all the rest - but would blend well in his unique lowcountry neighborhood. The remodel was a labor of love and not without it's challenges as older homes come with surprises when stripped to the bones. After it's initial remodel, we rented the house long term, sold it, bought it back again for our parents to enjoy in their senior years. Now that they have moved on, we continue upgrading as able -- now wonderfully suitable for visiting and vacationing guests, family and friends.

We love this relaxing cottage!
This was the 2nd year in a row that we have escaped the cold Northeastern winter to stay at the adorable red cottage in Beaufort. We love the cottage; it is just as pictured in the photos. It has a wonderful amount of natural light and an open feeling. It is in a very quiet, modest neighborhood. Very quiet. Perfect for a walk everyday and only around 1/2 mile to nice public parks and to riverfront views. The historic town of Beaufort is minutes by car and there you will find several good restaurants, shops, and a waterfront park walkway on the Beaufort River. The lowcountry scenery is soothing to the soul, with its live oaks draped in spanish moss and its many marshes and estuaries. Our hosts, Eric and Jan (wonderful folks), are attentive if you need anything but will not be at all intrusive. Check out the many photos by Eric, who is a world-class photographer, on the walls of the cottage and in books on the coffee table. Enjoy!
Perfect place in Bueafort
Impossibly beautiful cottage close to downtown Beaufort. Everything about the place is perfect. Would certainly stay there again.
Quaint, charming cottage!
We stayed at Eric and Jan's adorable cottage while house hunting and doing college visits with daughter. This location and property was just perfect!
Perfect place to stay!
Adorable, clean, really nice place to stay!
Perfect, beautiful little house!
I have never stayed at a more well equipped VRBO before. We were in town for a wedding and family came to town from everywhere. On our last morning, we had a brunch with our cousins at this home. It was perfect. The kitchen was perfectly equipped to accommodate. I plan to return in the future.
Loved this cottage
Highly recommend this cottage. Everything you need and more. Beds are comfy, loved the Keurig, 2 bathrooms, screened porch, I could go on and on. The best for me is being able to bring our dog. We know we don’t always get the best accommodations because of her and expect to find spots on the rugs or some other telltale signs, but there was no evidence here that an animal had ever visited. Thank you for sharing your lovely cottage and for letting us bring Clarice.
Historic downtown, horse-drawn carriage tours, Wildlife Photo Safari tour of the intra-coastal waters (special rates for guests), 10% discounts with Beaufort Kayak Tours (Kim & David), Shrimping & Fishing access on neighborhood (public) boat landing, great walking, biking and driving neighborhood!
