About Gene Corrigan

People are always interested about how our family came to own the Lake House. In 1995, the previous owners moved on and left the Lake House behind. It was for sale for two years. My husband and I had gone on our first date at the Lake House and it was always a special place for us and our children. We spent many Friday evenings there having dinner with the kids. We put in a bid on the Lake House in 1996, it was rejected. A year later, it still was empty and had been condemned by the codes. It was quickly deteriorating with leaky roofs, old windows and becoming overgrown. We decided to try again and put another bid on the property for considerably less than the year before. We were shocked when it was accepted. The building needed to be saved. It is a local landmark and we set out to remodel and restore the building. The cottage was on the property near the shore. It started out as a station for the trolley that passed in front of the Lake House in the 1800's and early 1900's. It had been moved next to the lake by a previous owner. In 2005, we applied and were granted the necessary permits to remodel and enlarge it. It is a little treasure right beside the lake. Our children have since grown, gone on to college and live in other areas of the country but enjoy coming home now with their children to the cottage where we live in the off season months of the year. It is the perfect spot to enjoy boating, water sports, fish or just watch the birds on the lake. Canadarago Lake has several pairs of nesting eagles, Canadian geese raise their young right outside our windows, there are loons, wood ducks and gulls swimming by. It is the most relaxing place I know. I have since retired from teaching Spanish in a local high school, my husband taught science for many years and then owned a lumber store which he has sold and we dedicate ourselves to running the Lake House and enjoying the lakeside living. Christine is now a second year law student at Syracuse Law School

Gene Corrigan purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Gene Corrigan chose New York

We remodeled and enlarged the cottage by the lake at the Lake House because it had the best location on the property- right by the lake. It is relaxing, comfortable and cozy. We were able to create a lakeside getaway for ourselves from our hectic life at the Lake House. After a busy day in the restaurant, we come down the driveway to the cottage- which can't be seen from the Lake House- to a home that is quiet, peaceful and unique. It is a hidden gem on our property and a place where anyone would love to spend time.

What makes this cottage unique

We enjoy living at the Cottage because when you are here you feel like you are a hundred miles away from civilization with all of the comforts of home at your fingertips. There is Wi-Fi so we can stay connected with family and friends, the water is just outside our door, the sunsets are breathtaking and we can hop in our car and be downtown for an ice cream cone in two minutes or to the supermarket in three minutes. It is conveniently located and yet astonishingly private and peaceful. As I write this, I am sitting at my dining room table watching the waves hit the shore, the mist is lifting on the hills across the lake and my dogs are lying on the floor beside me. It is a piece of paradise.

Lake House Cottage is Incredible.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful getaway for our whole family! Your cottage was the perfect setting for a perfect holiday week and things simply could not have been better. We enjoyed the the rowboats and canoes at the lake house, the Baseball Hall of Fame, Leatherstocking golf course, Farmer's Museum, Main Street in Cooperstown, and Hall of Fame. This was a terrific investment if you plan to make the tournament your family summer vacation. The Lake House Cottage is incredible and sits on a beautiful and very large lake.

"We will be back this winter!"

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time in Richfield Springs in September 2015. Christine truly cares for this beautiful cottage property! It is very clean, peaceful and full of every amenity your family needs while away from home. The Cottage is of quality construction, beds are very comfortable, main kitchen and baths are very clean and well stocked. The lake and grounds outside the door are an added plus to this spacious Cottage.

"There are no words to describe the sunset on lake."

  • 5 of 5

The Lake House Cottage is conveniently located just outside of Cooperstown. This was a last minute reservation so we were grateful to have secured a room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. We wanted to stay here again later in the summer but the cottage is completely booked. Do not forget to sit by the lake at sunset, there are no words to describe the beauty of the sunset.

“Great week of baseball in the perfect setting!”

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Baseball Hotel and cottages with two other families (total of 8 people) and never did we feel on top of one another. We had plenty of room to spread out and relax. It was a beautiful, clean hotel that was decorated well and in a comfortable fashion. Coming back to the hotel after a long day at the baseball park was a pleasure. The kids never wanted to get out of the lake since we were there every minute.

Shane and Chris made sure we had everything we needed including recommendations on where to eat and things to do. They even stopped by to check in and introduce themselves. I can't say enough about this property and the people that own it...if you are going to Cooperstown for baseball there is no better place to be.

Our stay was Fabulous!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Lodge sits right on the lake and the views from both inside and from the outside decks were amazing. The owner/builder obviously has an eye for detail because everywhere you look there are handmade pieces, like the bathroom pedestal sinks and various tables with Tiffany Antique table, floor and chandelier lights. If you stay at this property, you can use the outdoor stage that sits right on the water. We will definitely be back next year to spend more time in this beautiful well maintained hotel and this charming town!
