WELCOME TO THE “COTTAGE ON LANCEFORD”

The cottage is located on a 7 acre parcel in Yulee, Florida on a deepwater creek which connects to the Intercoastal Waterway. This is indeed old Florida with huge live oaks, laden with Spanish moss and resurrection ferns, magnolias, a citrus grove, cottage garden and beautiful views of the marsh and creek. Fishing, crabbing and just relaxing are options on the beautiful covered dock.

Though a boat does not come with the rental, there is a floating dock available for mooring your boat if desired. Boats can be rented locally. It is a 15 minute boat ride into the harbor of Fernandina Beach and a 20-30 minute boat ride to Cumberland Island, St. Mary’s, Georgia or the Atlantic Ocean. Great fishing and sight seeing abound!

I am able to offer a new feature to my rental and that is a day trip to Cumberland Island with a liscensed captain. A picnic lunch and drinks will be provided. You will enjoy this unique barrier island with its expansive oceanfront beaches, maritime forests, tidal creeks and salt marshes. In addition to the natural environment, you will be able to see the remains of Dungeness, the Carnegie mansion which burned in the 1950's and Plum Orchard, another Carnegie mansion which has just been opened to the public. Price for the excusion will be determined by the number of guests and the length of the visit to Cumberland.

The location just off of A1A in Yulee, the most northeastern town in Florida, makes it easy to access Amelia Island and its beautiful beaches (15 minutes from the cottage). In addition, Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island is an historical town as it is the second oldest city in the United States. Wonderful Key West style homes are abundant; shops, a local museum, and fine restaurants are also found in Fernandina.

A great spot for kids with a playset out the backdoor, a tree house near the water, 2 fold-up cots, and many acres to explore. Crabbing off the dock is always a wonderful experience for children as is fishing. Crab nets available but bring your own fishing gear.

Shopping, great restaurants of all types, groceries, etc are within a 5 minute drive of the cottage or 15 minutes if you want to go to Amelia. Or just enjoy the picturesque setting around the cottage, relax on the back porch or on the daybed swing on the dock and enjoy the tranquility of Old Florida: no crowds, pavement, high rises, etc. Just peaceful surroundings in a rural-like environment close to all conveniences. It is a wonderful spot to relax, renew and take a step back in time. As a very astute 5 year old visitor told me: "I never dreamed there was a place like this!" You will feel the same way also. Come and enjoy.

Beautiful, peaceful, cozy charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

Whether you're with family or escaping solo for peace and solitude this cottage is perfect. 2 miles to Stay N Country Ranch, where you can ride horses on trail or the beach, 5 minutes to the beaches, 10-15 miles to Jacksonville, tons of places to eat great seafood and southern cooking--this place is special. The cottage has everything you need, is cozy and looks like a Pottery Barn ad. Waking up on the river in this setting was just what I needed to go back to the grind feeling fresh and ready to take on the world.

Notes:
There is a wonderful chicken coop and chicken yard where kids and kids at heart will enjoy hanging out to watch the antics of the chickens. Fresh eggs for breakfast?? Beekeeping is the next item on the agenda, so fresh honey will be available as soon as possible. Another unique experience for all ages if you happen to be on site at "honey harvest" time.
