Why Jenny Davis chose Washington State

We have lived on Marrowstone Island for 12 years. As world travelers, we feel Marrowstone is one of the most pristine places on earth! The natural beauty and peace of the island captured our hearts. While we need to live off the island for now, we hope to move back someday soon. In the meantime, we wish to share this lovely retreat with others.

What makes this house unique

The Nordland store on Marrowstone island provides visitors a real taste and flavor of island hospitality! Local wine and beer offered. Rent DVDs, boats, espresso or chat with locals. You can also purchase a dozen fresh oysters off the beach to take and BBQ! Delicious!

Guests will need to bring their own soaps and shampoo. We do provide a starter for paper products, garbage bags, etc., to last a few days, but guests staying longer will need to purchase their own supplies. Our home is subjected to nature's elements of ocean front and forest conditions, we do have helpers come to help maintain the property for your enjoyment, by keeping the lawn mowed and gardens maintained. We apologize if their brief presence is an inconvenience. Due to an effort to provide a clean, healthy environment, we have elected to remove our BBQ. There is a BBQ shelter located at the nearby park (3 minute walk).

Wonderful place nestled on the bluff!

  • 5 of 5

This property is heaven on earth! It is nicely appointed inside and out. The view is marvelous and very interesting. Many ships in and out at all times of the day/night. A pair of eagles roost very close and can be heard chattering to each other in the mornings. Tranquil and quiet. I haven't slept that well in a very long time.We made most of our meals. The kitchen is more than adequate. We ( my adult children) went to Port Townsend for a meal and to hang out at the brewery. We also stopped in at my favorite shop: April Fool and a Penny Too. It was easy to find and I intend to book this place again!

Wished we'd stayed longer!

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect and had everything we needed. It's a beautiful drive out to the house and was easy to find. We saw plenty of deer and the resident eagle did not disappoint. He flew off every morning around 9:00 a.m. and was exciting to watch. Plenty of things to do in the area: hiking, sightseeing, whale watching, wineries and don't forget to set time aside for an afternoon in Port Townsend.

Amazing views and comfortable accommodation!

  • 5 of 5

Waking up to a magnificent sunrise over the Cascades and the water cannot be done justice in words or pictures. What a special place on the bluff! Great accommodation for exploring the peninsula. A little far from Olympic Natl Park but great for Port Townsend, nearby forts, and Eastern side of the park. House we just as advertised. Plenty of room for our group with beds for 3 couples and 1 futon. Thank you for the great experience! We loved Marrowstone!

Wonderful location, very low-key and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a fantastic location, and the views don't disappoint! On a clear day, you can see Mt. Baker to the northeast and Mt. Rainier to the southeast, and both are especially prominent in the alpenglow at sunset. Marrowstone Island is also a great location from which to explore the northern part of the Olympic Peninsula - close to the national park, Port Angeles (and the ferry to Victoria), Port Townsend, etc. And if you're a kayaker, you can easily put in at the little public beach that is just down the road (as in, a couple hundred yards) from the house. Also, the state park on the northern end of Marrowstone, Ft. Flagler, seems like a neat place to walk around and explore.

In terms of the house itself, it is well maintained and private. You can at times hear neighbors next door, but you can't really see them, which is nice. The house is nicely put together, with some cool artwork and a nice spatial flow, with the kitchen open to the dining and living area, which are surrounded by a wall of windows facing the water. We were well aware of the shoes-off policy at the house, and followed it to a "t", but I have to admit that it was a bit nerve-wracking to have a very light yellow/cream-colored carpet underfoot throughout the entire house, especially for us, since we like to be outside and were back and forth a lot from the yard and deck to the house. Then again, as we learned, it just takes diligence in remembering to kick off your shoes each and every time you come in and out. I'd highly recommend bringing a pair of slippers or house shoes of some sort that you can slip into when you come inside. That would make the protocol easier.

Finally, a few local businesses are worth mentioning: The Nordland store (which you pass on the way to the house and is within walking distance) is a great place to grab light groceries, smoked salmon, etc. If you're a fan of cider, you have to check out Finnriver Cidery, just down the road in Chimacum. Just across the intersection (and on the same side of the main road) from Finnriver is a great little grocery store that sells organic produce, wine, a great selection of homemade cookies, and other food items. And, if you want to do a dinner out and you're not too high-brow for it, check out Scampi and Halibut's, which is in Port Hadlock, right near the house. It's your classic fish and chips, everything's-coming-out-of-a-fryer type of place, which can be just fine after an active day. It's a great place!
