Crystalwood is an ideal spot to base an in-depth exploration of Crater Lake's Backyard and beyond. We are located just outside Crater Lake National Park, only 18 miles from the south entrance (the entrance that is open year-round).

Crystalwood Lodge’s focus is on hosting groups, events, workshops, seminars, family reunions, weddings – any group needing a private space in a unique setting.

So far this year we've been again honored to host weddings, a multitude of family reunions, milestone birthday celebrations, bicyclists exploring Crater Lake, the OC&E trail and Sun Mountain, 2 quilting retreats, dog partnership building retreats, scrapbooking weekends, church get-togethers, two memorial get-togethers, hiking groups....just to name a few!

Well-behaved pets are welcome throughout the Lodge and grounds (except for the kitchen and dining room, per health dept. regulations).

We live in the 'tropics of winter sports' so temperate and balmy winters, and warm but not scorching summers. Winter highs are in the 30s, summer highs in the 80s. We feature cool nights and mornings year-round, so great for sleeping and enjoying unlimited fresh air.

Fully Outfitted Commercial Kitchen: Crystalwood Lodge makes our fully outfitted commercial kitchen available to guests, and that has been a huge hit with every group stay. This allows you to come and go freely as you can eat whenever you prefer using the kitchen to prepare your own meals.

The commercial kitchen includes a 6-burner propane stove, 2 large ovens, an outdoor propane grill, 3 microwaves, a guest freezer (with chilled beer mugs), a HUGE walk-in cooler for refrigerated food storage, a commercial coffee/tea station, and a dry food storage area. The well-stocked dish pantry includes serviceware for approx. 30, linens and placemats for the dining room, cutting boards, crock pot, toaster, mixer, and a wide variety of stock pots, baking dishes, skillets, mixing bowls. A number of dry spices are available for guest use.

Food storage areas, dish pantry, food prep tools – everything is here to satisfy your inner gourmet cook – all you bring is the food! There are several local food options if you don’t feel like cooking.

Additional Lodge Amenities: Direct water access for canoeing, kayaking, fishing and wildlife viewing is available just outside the front door of the Lodge. We have 2 rowboats and 2 canoes available for guest rental, which include oars, paddles and life jackets.

We also have 4 open air horse pens for those who would like to bring their horses and enjoy the many miles of trail riding in our immediate area.

Dog crates are available for guest rooms, and a chest full of dog sheets is available to cover the bed comforters or furniture for those guests who like to have their dogs close (i.e. can't keep them off the bed, like some of mine)!

Doggie doo bags are available and trash cans are strategically placed in the parking area and next to the lawn/garden areas for easy pick-up and clean up of your pets.

We have 3 ponds on the property for canine swimming, and approx. 3-4 miles of trails on the property for dog walking, birding, wildflower and wildlife viewing and just getting away from it all.

Even More Lodge Amenities & Info: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the Lodge guest rooms and guest common areas, including the wrap-around deck and porches.

Inside recreation options include board games, jigsaw puzzles, cards, books, magazines, video library, spotting scope and binoculars.

We have a cozy glass-fronted wood stove in the ground floor Great Room, ready for guest use while you area enjoying the large common area.

A dryer is available for guest use, and I am happy to do laundry on behalf of my guests for a nominal charge.

Guest rooms all include fans and baseboard heaters, and each has a unique view of mountains, meadow, wildlife refuge or Crystal Spring. We have 3 water heaters supplying the kitchen and guest rooms, so plenty of hot water.

BTW, I do NOT live in Crystalwood Lodge, although I am on the property in case anything goes awry and needs attention. I have a separate house behind the Lodge, and my enclosed sled dog yard is approx. 1/4 mile north of the Lodge, on the opposite side of the knoll between the two. The Lodge is 100% yours when you rent the entire facility.

I am onsite to provide orientation tours and facilitate the check-in process when you arrive. Past that, I can assist with dealing with recycles and so forth -- or not -- as you prefer. If there are any problems or you need assistance with anything, of course I am available to assist however I can.

The lodge is on the original shallow water homestead well, and has the best water you will EVER taste. Enjoy!

I hope this helps to clarify a brief overview of all that Crystalwood Lodge has to offer, but please let me know if you have any further questions.

About Liz Parrish

I am a dog lover, thus my property is pet welcoming. My dogs and I have enjoyed agility, fly ball, obedience, skijoring, and dog sledding. I devoted 10 years to my dream of training my own sled dog team and completed the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in 2008 to celebrate my 50th birthday. I am glad to share stories and the sled dogs with guests if desired!

I live in a separate manager's cottage behind the Lodge, thus the entire Lodge is reserved for guest use. Coming in at around 6000 square feet, there's ample room for your group to gather under one roof and still have plenty of elbow room.

In addition to the lodge I still train and run sled dogs, teach mushing and dog training, and guide people to learn all they can from and with the partnership with their dogs.

Liz Parrish purchased this lodge in 2001

Why Liz Parrish chose Klamath Falls

This area has incredible diverse year-round recreation opportunities, and Crystalwood Lodge is in the heart of it all. We are located 18 miles from the south entrance to Crater Lake National Park (the entrance which is open year-round), and adjacent to both the Fremont-Winema National Forest and the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. Easy year-round access and eye-candy scenery in every direction complete the appeal.

What makes this lodge unique

We have a quiet, peaceful, private setting which is off the beaten path, and yet close to all sorts of outdoor recreation and sightseeing such as Crater Lake National Park. On this property we have world-class birding, fishing and canoeing and kayaking, also hiking, wildlife, and endless vistas.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Liz, Just a note of thanks & appreciation for helping to make our "sister week" such a delightful time! We all had a memorable stay -- your lodge is a gem in the woods. Thank you for sharing it with us. And, thank you for your friendliness and friendship. You gave us a warm welcome & warm send-off, and much warmth in-between! Thanks again! Woof! Woof!

Great place for a huge family.

  • 4 of 5

We had a group of 20 plus family members for Thanksgiving and not once did we feel crowded. With the size of the kitchen many of us could be working at the same time. It was great also a plus that there was canoe's for us to use. The negatives thing about this property is it needed some maintance 2 showers were not working, it was a little hard to keep downstairs warm dur to the fact the only heat source was wood. The hardest part for our family was the fact the owner just walks in at anytime and did everyday we were there unannounced.

All in all a great place to stay.

Rustic Old Facility in a Beautiful Setting

  • 2 of 5

Crystal Wood Lodge was a great location for our family reunion of 6 families, ages 2 to 75. The beautiful setting with close proximity to the Crater Lake area was perfect. Water activities at Lake of the Woods made for a fun day, too. Liz was very good to communicate and answer our questions prior to our arrival. The individual bedrooms were clean and adequate, and having so many bathrooms was a plus. The nicely furnished great room was an inviting spot for visiting, games, and evening meetings, and the great room floor converted to a dry sleeping area when those tenting needed respite from the thunderstorms. “However, the kitchen, which the website plays up, was a huge problem. "We were shocked that it was just plain not clean.“ In no way could it meet the qualifications of a commercial kitchen given the greasy stove, a non-working dishwasher, greasy cabinet tops, old damaged frying pans, leaky faucets, and much other miscellaneous clutter which had not seen any deep cleaning for a very long time. The one plus was the awesome walk-in refrigerator. Luckily we had brought a lot of paper goods. For the price we had paid, we had the right to expect something better, and Liz, who was very friendly, did make an adjustment after we complained. What does one do, after planning for many months and coming from 4 different states and with nowhere else to go to accommodate us all?? Well we spent extra time cleaning, made the best of it, and went on to have a good time. Hopefully, our complaints will make it better for the next group, but don’t put too much store in the commercial kitchen and consider plenty of paper goods.

Owner's Response: We did have a hiccup in cleaning the commercial kitchen in-between back-to-back groups this summer, and that was totally my fault. Prior to this group’s arrival I had been incapacitated several weeks with an accident requiring hospitalization and the attendant blood loss left me severely anemic and with zero stamina. As a result I was unable to supervise my housekeeping crew to my usual standards of excellence. At the time Judy brought the cleanliness issues to my attention I thanked her and offered to jump in and remedy the situation immediately. She declined my offer, saying it was not necessary. So at their departure I worked with my housekeeping crew to not only complete the kitchen deep cleaning, but also implement several safety and presentation upgrades. I truly appreciate bringing the issues to my attention so they can be (and were) remedied ASAP. As to the expectation of a mechanical dishwasher, this group had contacted me prior to arrival about a dishwasher, and I had explained we had none for this size facility (when I was operating as a small restaurant I had a dishwasher on staff), and suggested what other groups had done. Some groups opt for prepping food ahead of time and serving with paper and plastic, to absolutely minimize the on-site cleanup. Others which are more environmentally conscious opt for using our complete dish pantry stocked with reusable metal, glassware, ceramic and pottery dishes and cooking/service items, and simply rotating dish and service-ware cleanup amongst their group. I told them either way was fine by me, so there was no surprises on their end upon arrival. Since I am a Serve-Safe certified instructor, I also advised if they were interested in sanitation steps, over and above dish washing, I would be happy to help them get that set up, but they did not request that assistance. I am glad this family had such a good time using Crystalwood Lodge as their base to explore our patch of paradise in and around Crater Lake National Park. They even took the opportunity for a kennel tour with my sled dogs, and utilized some of the other on-site recreation available. I look forward to having another chance to host their family reunion, and have them experience our renowned hospitality while crossing off a few more bucket list recreation and education items this area has to offer.

Not sure if the bed linen and sheets are clean. During our check-out we were told just to bring down only the pillow case this telling me that the bed linen and sheets are not fresh clean when we check-in. Don't use the towel either. Need outside landscaping this picture is old. I just like the kitchen that's all. She should have at least cable TV to watch or relax before bedtime. We enjoy the places we visited. No cellphone signal AT&T, Verizon or any kind. Gas station nearest is the Crater Lake itself which is close at 9pm or else you have to drive around 40 to 50 miles. Lastly, the owner checks the house regularly when were not present. Too many mosquitos and bugs, bring insects repellant/spray.

Owner's Response: According to the written rental documents I provide on check-out instructions, guests are asked to bring down ALL used bed linens and towels, tubmats and robes, so I get going with the many loads of lodge laundry ahead. This group did bring everything down from the guest rooms as requested, so I am really befuddled by this “pillow case” comment. I find the mosquitoes are especially bad this year thanks to the banner snow year we had. That’s why my final guest instruction pre-arrival email sent includes specifically bringing bug spray. As I mention in my email, DEET-based sprays work best. In my intro tour I also make sure to note it’s also best to keep the doors shut as much as possible to avoid bringing the bugs in, and to avoid the times around sunrise and sunset as those are when the mosquitoes are at their worst. Crystalwood Lodge has excellent cell phone coverage for our native carriers (Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular), and has very little/no service for AT&T and TMobile customers due to those carriers not having good reciprocal agreements with our native carriers. As I mention to all my groups, both verbally and in the written instructions, I will empty the recycles when they get filled so that guests don’t need to trouble with them, since Oregon recycling requirements are a bit different than other states. If I need to catch up on Lodge laundry I try to do that in the least obtrusive mode possible, i.e. typically when guests are gone during the day so as to not intrude. Those are the only times I come into the Lodge during a guest stay, unless specifically asked a question, or to take care of a concern. I always recommend guests try to get gas in the National Park if they need it and are going there, since it is by far the least expensive gas around (the National Park is federal land, and does not have to charge state gas tax). However for those times when the Park station is closed or during the off-season, the next best-priced gas is due east of us at the Crater Lake Travel Center (truck stop) on Hwy 97 in Chiloquin. They are open 24/7 and are approx. 25 miles, same as the National Park gas station. I am saddened I was not able to clear up these misconceptions while the guests were on site, as that would have been easy to address. I always appreciate the opportunity to make things right and get feedback in time to be able to do something about it. When I ask each day “How is everything going?”…I really do want to know! :-)

Great Family Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

Crystalwood lodge is a great spot for an extended family get together. Quiet, rustic and serene setting with views out over the valley and wetlands. We celebrated Thanksgiving 2016 at the lodge. Plenty of room for our group of 20. We put the commercial kitchen to good use for a huge Turducken feast! Liz is a great host, and we will definitely consider returning.
