This cabin-like home is nestled in a hill beside a 250 foot waterfall that can vary from a calm flow to raging fall depending on recent rainfall. As the water cascades to the bottom it turns into a creek that wraps around the property. From the moment you walk in the front door, the focus of this home is the waterfall. If can be enjoyed from almost every room. The house is found at the end of a gravel drive off North Norton Road. It sits just above 3800 ft elevation providing perfect temperatures most of the summer, hence, no air conditioning, just lots of windows and sliding glass doors.
If you tire of the waterfall (which I can't imagine), you can relax in front of the fireplace, television (one in the den and in two bedrooms), or just soak in the comfort of the old pine walls and hickory floors. The upstairs is the main living floor and has been renovated using both old and new materials. The owner has painstakingly removed all the original wood from the walls, planed and refinished it, and returned it to the walls. The master bedroom with its newly renovated bathroom is on this floor, as well as the kitchen with stainless appliances, hickory cabinets, and granite countertops. The laundry and a half bath are located beside the kitchen. The downstairs still maintains the character of the original walls and has a small kitchen, two bedrooms and a full bath.
The outdoors will beckon you to the wraparound deck overlooking the waterfall or the covered front porch looking down the creek lined with laurels and rhododendrons. The comfortable wicker furniture is the perfect place to admire the terraced flower beds, watch the hummingbirds, or just take a nap. If you care to venture into town, Cashiers is appr. 8 miles and Highlands is appr. 12 miles away. The marina, which rents boats, is just minutes around Lake Glenville. The lake is situated at 3500 ft above sea level with 26 miles of shoreline and crystal clear water ready for fishing and recreation. (We love to go tubing and picnic on one of the islands.) Five waterfalls feed into the lake helping the area to earn its reputation as the 'the land of waterfalls'.
You can make your vacation as peaceful and relaxing or as busy and adventurous as you like. Either is at your fingertips. We invite you to come enjoy your time in our home.
The home was a little tricky to find, but once we got there, it was truly awesome. We arrived right after a heavy rain and the waterfall was roaring so loud that it drowned out my voice when Face timing our daughter. They joined us the next day and our grandsons (2 and 4) were blown away.
My husband and I recently spent our honeymoon in this lovely home. It was everything we had wanted in a quiet escape and the owners were more than accomodating and so very friendly. We hiked to nearby waterfalls and would come back to the cabin each night to make hine cooked meals in the very well stocked kitchen. The sound of the waterfall is so very peaceful as we spent our last morning having coffee on the patio next to it.
Great Location, Views, & location. Owner was very informative and helpful. Advice would be to make sure to drive in and out with daylight........the access roads in are curvy and steep, but nothing compared to the driveway! Waterfall is beautiful and we loved the big fireplace at nigh!
You won't regret booking this place! Our criteria for our 10-year anniversary trip were as follows:
This place was perfect for all three. Granted, there is plenty to do in Cashiers, which was a quick, winding drive through the mountains! However, we were so comfortable and relaxed at the house that we didn't want to venture out but for dinner!
The drive in was beautiful and the directions in the rental instructions were spot-on. The driveway was a little rough but it didn't matter to us since we had 4WD, though I'm sure with a little maneuvering we definitely could've made it up with 2WD.
The grounds are beautiful and well taken care-of. The entire house is surrounded by thick trees, except the driveway of course, which creates so much seclusion and peace!
When you walk in, the house is a breath of fresh air! It was very clean. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed to make whatever meals we didn't eat out. I'm a pretty picky cook, but I was very happy with all the tools and pots and pans necessary for everything we wanted to make! The two places we spent most of our time other than the kitchen were the master bedroom and the deck! The master bedroom is very big and comfortable, with lots of natural light if you want it, and lots of thick shades if you don't! True too the other reviewers' claims, the bed is extremely comfortable! We watched movies and it, and grabbed the small black game table from the living room, folded up the legs, and used it as a hard surface for playing board games in bed! When we weren't in the bed, we were sitting out on the deck! There are so many comfortable chairs available on all the decks, which was very enticing for sitting outside! We spent most of every morning we were there sitting on the deck, listening to the beautiful, tranquil sounds of the water, and chatting.
Overall, this was a very clean, beautiful, tranquil, lovely, peaceful, perfect spot. It was exactly what we needed and we're so grateful to have gotten to go! The owners are so kind and accommodating and everything, from booking, to getting there, to checking out, was a breeze.

Our family spends a week each summer in the North Carolina mountains to escape the Florida heat, this year during the week of August 20th. We have enjoyed staying in the Cashiers/Highlands area, our favorite location in NC, for the past three years. What a unique experience having your very own private waterfall in your backyard! We are used to driving a half hour then hiking another hour or so to have a picnic at a waterfall. We were intrigued the very moment we saw and heard the waterfall when we arrived. Spacious deck areas and walkways surrounding the waterfall and adjacent creek are located from each bedroom and the den area. Situated at an elevation around 4000 ft, we were cool for our entire stay with highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 60s/50s. Overall, the waterfall, creek area and surrounding grounds are immaculate and well maintained. We absolutely loved the experience and couldn't get enough of the sights and sounds of the falling water and rushing creek.
The kitchen is very well equipped and recently remodeled with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, etc. Wifi worked well as did Directv. There is no cell phone availability, but a landline phone is provided. The bedrooms/bathrooms are also attractive, comfortable and well furnished. The den area is spacious with a beautiful stone fireplace and also recently remodeled with hardwood floors and walls, giving the appearance of the idyllic mountain cabin.
In summary, we experienced one of the most memorable weeks ever in the North Carolina mountains! Needless to say, we plan to go back again - many times!
I took my two teenage kids and two of their friends to the house for vacation before starting school and it was AWESOME! The house is amazing and peaceful. The hardwood floors are impressively beautiful, and the waterfall right outside the door is so soothing, I could've stayed there and never left the house! But of course we did wander out and found many activities close by. I wanted a place far enough from "city life" to consider it an outdoors vacation but close enough to town to be able to keep the kids entertained. This was perfect for all of us. We will DEFINITELY be coming back.
