A quintessential ski house. This place has it all: a great location-smack in between the mountain and the town, a hot tub, lots of bedrooms (6) so everyone has their own room and no one is on pullouts, a huge great room that can accommodate your whole group, a 2nd family room with a computer, video games, pool table, DVD player, internet TV via Roku. We do not offer on line booking as we are careful with screening guests. Paying directly via credit card or preferably by check saves both you and us a little coin.
If the younger generation needs their own space there is a separate family room on the lower floor. But most importantly the house is warm, cozy yet spacious feeling.
We keep improving the house. This year we totally renovated the kitchen with new appliances, granite counters and new cabinetry. Last year we put in hardwood floors on the main living areas and the year before we added a 50 jet 6 person hot tub, a huge leather comfy sectional and a master bedroom set with a king sized tempurpedic type mattress. This is our second home and we improve it every year with the proceeds form the prior year's rentals.
Our house is located about half way between the Mt. Mansfield and the town. Just 5 minutes from the first slopes and 8 to the main mountain. It is below most of the commercial activity on Mountain road but just a walk to our favorite pub, Gracies. You can also walk to Stowes award winning rec path.In the summer it is Stowe's Grand boulevard swinging by nature, farm land, swimming holes and cafes where you can catch a libation. Last season the town groomed it for X-country and you can take it all the way to town. In warmer weather it is a great walking or running path. We have a 3 mile loop using the path for our morning jogs.
Our 3250 square foot Deck House features post and beam construction, exposed Douglas fir beams, wooded tongue and groove cathedral ceilings and expansive glass panel windows created to frame views and invite the outdoors in. This midcentury modernist chalet takes advantage of the natural hillside by merging it into the existing land contours for minimal disruption of the site's natural beauty. Its architecture was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright incorporating his design concepts by blending its spaces together creating a great feeling of openness while at the same time feeling warm and intimate. There is a preservationist movement afoot recognizing this brand of architecture.
The house features expansive upper and lower family living areas each with a fireplace. Two bedrooms are big enough to be considered master bedrooms. One has its own bathroom. An additional bedroom has a queen bed, two bedrooms each have a pair of twins and there is one single. The pool room also has a day bed.
The windows are situated to connect to the natural environment to make people feel they are living in the outdoors. Interior spaces flow freely, accented by a rich combination of natural wood. A fully equipped galley kitchen compliments a dining area suitable for 12. Its two car garage keeps snow off your car and there is plenty of additional parking. A mud room is just off the parking area to reboot and store skis indoors. It is has wonderful gathering spaces and can comfortably accommodate a fun loving crowd with its pool room and piano.
The upper living room has a huge screened fireplace, HD TV, surround sound home theater system with cd/dvd, ipod dock and cable. This year we added a ROKU connection where you can access up to 700 channels fro streaming programming. If you have your netflix account or other similar service you can stream movies. If you wanted to set one up yourself netflix charges you just $7.99. It comes equipped with high speed wireless connection and a computer. It is located in a private wooded setting on an acre of land - convenient to everything in Stowe. If you are checking out lots of house it is important to be on the mountain side of town because traffic can get pretty backed up in the center of town both getting to the mountain and leaving. The shuttle stops at the end of the road and is a 5 minute walk should one want to come home from skiing early.
We are also a short walk (10 Minutes) from a hiking trial system preserved by the Stowe Land Trust, the Weissman Woods. This system links up with the famous Catamount trial which runs the length of Vermont and can take you to the top of Spruce Peak. These trails are great fro both hiking and cross country skiing. We even keep a few sets of snow shoes in the garaage to use on the trails. Feel the warmth this wonderful home has to offer.

We are a ski and outdoor loving family. . We love skiing which you can by admiring our collection of antique skis and the 1st T-Bar in North America. This house is just perfect if you want to get to slopes quickly and snag a powder day when everyone else is hung up being too far away.
John purchased this house in 2009
Stowe has the best skiing and is best mountain town, bar none, in the east. The house is set on an acre of land into a hillside just off Mountain Road less than 4 miles away from Mt. Mansfield. If a group need to split up (someone want to stop skiing early or go shopping) the town's shuttle service can drop you off at the end of our street and it's a short walk to the house. The house is located in the one of America's first ski communities built when the golden age of skiing dawned in the sixties. It is a 'deck house' design and the are several others in Stowe of the same vintage. There are several retro features that have luckily been preserved. A 'deck house' is an architectural design where the roof and ceiling system is wholly supported by the exterior walls. The upper level ceiling is natural wood and exposed structural wood beams give it a warm and open feeling. The house also has 2 generously sized family rooms. The upper level is off the eating area and the lower level is just underneath it adjacent to the pool/game room. Fire wood is provided. If part of your brood is exuberant and late nighters the expansiveness of the house lets everyone do their thing without disturbing someone who wants a more peaceful experience. It is very close to the mountain, under a 10 minute drive.
We love being right in the middle of all Stowe has to offer but on a private secluded hill. We have teeneagers and it is nothing to drop them off or pick them up at the Mountain or the movies.
We just returned from a great weekend in Stowe. The house is in a wonderful location - a 5 minute drive to the slopes and also near town and many restaurant choices. The house itself was perfect for two families with multiple beds on the first and lower level. It has a wonderful ski lodge feel with two big fireplaces and wonderful windows to see the snowy trees. We made fires nightly in the upstairs fireplace and also loved the outdoor hot tub after a day of skiing. The owner provides you with so much helpful information about the house, the town, ski mountain, restaurants, etc. It was our first time to the area so all of his information was incredibly helpful for us. It is also a wonderfully equipped home for a rental. They provide paper products, multiple bedding options, pillows, etc, and the use of whatever is in the kitchen and firewood! When going somewhere for a few nights it is so nice not to have to worry about packing paper towels and pantry staples. We would definitely return for another ski weekend in the future. Highly recommend!
My wife and I just hosted a family reunion, and we could not have been more pleased! We had family members travel from Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, as well as a few Vermonters!
The house is equipped as advertised, there were no issues or surprises. It is very clean and well maintained. The kitchen is new and well appointed. There is no need to bring anything with you except groceries and beverages. All flatware, plates, pans, coffee maker etc. are provided.
The living room is huge, and there is a large leather sectional, as well as several additional chairs. Plenty of seating for all. Even though we visited in June, we did have a cool Vermont evening (45) and enjoyed sitting around the fireplace. The kids enjoyed Smores as well! (Ok, so did a few adults)
We slept 11, and all were comfortable. The 6 bedrooms are all various sizes, and are a mix of king, queen, and twin beds. That combination was perfect for us. There is also a day bed in the pool room that we did not use.
There are 3 full baths, and that is helpful when you are trying to get 11 people out the door for activities in the morning.
The pool table was a nice bonus, as well as the hot tub. We enjoyed both.
I won't get in to our daily activities, if you are planning a trip to Stowe, you already know it is beautiful year round, and the many various activities the area has to offer. We stayed busy exploring, hiking, shopping, golfing etc., and we all went to bed exhausted each night!
The owner is friendly, and he was easy to communicate with throughout the reservation/rental process. It was obvious to me that he has a genuine attachment to the Stowe area, and that he wants his renters to have a great experience. There is always a certain amount of risk when you book a vacation spot for the 1st time. That was not the case here. We were completely satisfied. We will be returning at some point I am sure.
I guess the only negative that I take away from the whole experience would be that Diane wants to remodel our kitchen now!
My family passed a great Xmas week at this house.
The house itself was perfect with a great dining and living area and a play room for the kids downstairs. It is conveniently located to the town of Stowe and to the ski lifts.
The owner is very responsive and provided detailed information on the area, restaurants, and how best to approach the slopes. We enjoyed it immensely.
We had a wonderful experience and this house was perfect for 2 families with kids. You had two master bedrooms for the parents and a whole lower level with it's own family room that was perfect for the kids. Add in the great hot tub right out back and garages for the cars...and it was simply perfect. Plus it was a so close to the mountain.
Had a great time with 11 of my closest girlfriends. The house had everything that we needed and was well maintained and stocked. The new additions to the house were beautiful and the hot tub couldn't have been better. The owner was available with any questions and was great to work with. We stayed here a few years ago and really appreciated the updates, especially the hot tub. I would recommend this home to a large group or couple of families.
This house is a great house in a very convenient location. It is easy to get into town or head to the slopes. This was our second time staying at the house with the same group and once again it did not disappoint. After skiing and some time at the Matterhorn, the house is a perfect place to retreat to in order to unwind, relax, and have some fun. The hot tub allows you to rest the legs and body after a hard day on the slopes. The pool table allows you to have some fun with the group late into the night. The large family room is great for games, hanging out, and watching tv. The fireplace is conveniently located in the middle of everything. The bedrooms are a great size and there is an ample number of bathrooms.
The owner is great to work with and outlines everything Stowe has to offer in a nice welcome booklet.
The house is great for a weekend away with friends. It was our second year staying at the house and we will definitely head back for a third next year.
We are less than 10 minutes to Mt. Mansfield. The shuttle stops at the end of our road, just a 5 minute walk. The hiking and swimming holes in the summer are spectacular and close by.
