Perfect cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have rented through VBRO many times, all over the world. This was one of the nicest rentals we have ever stayed in (well, with the exception of one in Paris!). When I first read the reviews for this cottage, I had a hard time believing it was as amazing as everyone said. But staying for a week and a half here confirmed every review! I won't repeat what was said in the other reviews but every comment is accurate. A few things we appreciated: We have stayed in Hawaii many times and my husband was interested in local, authentic restaurants (instead of touristy spots). Dave took the time to give us a long list of favorite restaurants, of which we visited many. It was unusually warm and humid when we were there. The air conditioning was great for the few times we needed, and cooled the cottage down quickly when we returned in the late afternoons. Kailua beach is one of the nicest beaches on Oahu and really is just a few minutes walk away. It is early empty during the week, and a fun atmosphere on the weekends. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet, and the pictures of the lanai don't give the lovely, private backyard justice. Often VRBO rentals are filled with mismatched dishes, silverware and pots. Not only did this cottage have everything you could need for making simple meals, everything was high quality, matching and nice. I could rave on and on, but I will just thank you, Dave and Pua, for a wonderful, peaceful stay in your cottage.

Feeling Aloha

  • 5 of 5

Thank you, Pua, for taking the time for being on hand to welcome us. The welcome basket of Hawaiian bread, coffee and pineapple was such a nice touch. Your cottage is tastefully decorated, the bed comfortable, the private, covered patio very pretty and relaxing--perfect for reading or having our coffee. You thought of everything! We appreciated the beach chairs and thick, fluffy beach towels; the luxurious bath towels, shampoo and soaps; the restaurant menus and schedule of local happenings; the well-stocked kitchen; free wifi and a great TV--yes, we still needed to watch world news to keep up with current events even on vacation. Thank you for the umbrella for the rainy days! We took walks to the beach every day and strolled into town for meals and shopping. Your cottage is a cozy, welcoming place and we were very happy to be able to call it home, if only for a week. Mahalo and a hui hou...

September Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough good things about this cottage. It is just perfect in every way. Very clean, tastefully and simply decorated, cozy and comfortable and private. We walked to the beach almost everyday and enjoyed longs walks on the beautiful beach and seeing the sunrise. There are lots of stores and restaurants very close by within walking distance. Tonight the trade winds were back and we enjoyed watching the kite surfers on the bay. Our hosts Dave and Pua provided everything you could possibly need for a fun and comfortable stay, including a welcome gift of bread, pineapple and coffee for the first morning. We will stay here again for sure! Thank you so much for your warm hospitality!

Idyllic Escape

  • 5 of 5

As a former Kailua resident, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Pualani’s Place and hope to stay there again. The cottage is so close to the beach -- a delightful, very private location, nicely decorated, with everything needed for cooking light meals. The hosts are friendly and helpful, while very inconspicuous, and the off-street parking is a bonus. Kailua Town is a fabulous place to run away from it all; it has wonderful beaches, and everything you could ask for away from the hubbub of Honolulu, but is just minutes away from the major highways if you want to explore the island.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Pualani's Place for a week - which included her birthday. A wonderful place. Just as described. Simply and beautifully decorated, the cottage had everything we needed. Ideal location. Quiet and private. We walked the beautiful beach at sunrise, then had coffee on the lanai - just as promised. Kailua is a nice, non-touristy town, with good restaurants and a Wholefoods for stocking up on breakfast and picnic items. We strongly recommend Pualani's Place, with no reservations at all.

What a great place

  • 5 of 5

My wife and are are celebrating our 25th anniversary! What a great place to get away from the cold and snow of MN in Feb. this was the perfect fit for us- between the North Shore and Honolulu. Very we'll kept and it had everything we needed ( and things we didn't know we needed!). Only steps from the beach and town. The welcome package of sweet bread, coffee and pineapple was a nice touch! Quiet neighborhood with off street parking. Would certainly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.

Pualani's Place is perfectly situated just 1-1/2 blocks to one of the most beautiful sandy beaches - Kailua Beach (2/10ths of a mile), and it's a short walk into the revitalized Kailua Town. Located on a quiet side street, it is the perfect home base for all of your Oahu activities and sightseeing. Groceries (Down to Earth, Whole Foods, Safeway, Foodland, Times), drugstore, shops, restaurants, a 24-hour laundromat, and library are all within walking distance.

Kailua has a number of farmers markets that offer fresh fruit and vegetables, souvenirs, and the night market always has great take out dinner offerings.

They happen:

Thursday mornings 9-10 a.m., Kailua District Park

Thursday night market 5-7 p.m., Longs Drugs parking lot

Sunday 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Kailua Elementary School

For early risers, watch the sunrise on Kailua Beach, walk the 2-mile sandy stretch and stop at Kapalawai Market for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat or head over to Cinnamon's (go early) for their famous Guava Chiffon or Red Velvet Pancakes.

You'll find that Kailua Town has a wide range of dining options and we are happy to provide recommendations.

In the Hawaiian language Kailua means 'two seas,' or 'two currents,' a contraction of the words kai (meaning sea or sea water) and 'elua (meaning two); it is so named because of the two lagoons in the district or the two currents which run through Kailua Bay.

We hope you choose to stay with us.
