Taos Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-4)

Last minute and even same day bookings welcome!

This property is a recently inherited home on a large lot with this separate cottage/casita. There is one main bedroom with a nice queen size bed and then a small side room with a brand new twin bed, table and lamp but no closet. This room has a door to the patio. The main home is also available, vrbo listing number 277879, seperately or in combination with the casita for a discounted rate. Two blocks from the Taos Plaza, great access to all local activities including Taos Ski Valley by car or by bus. This is brand new to us so we are offering it 'as is' with few bells and whistles, but at very economical terms. The casita is newly remodeled, clean and cozy - - but really no frills such as sauna, hot tub, or even a well appointed kitchen yet, except the basic coffee pot, stove, refrigerator, and a few pots and pans. The grounds are clear but not upgraded yet, meaning some pathways are pitted concrete etc., but for location and price you'll be suprised how nice it is.

About The Owner

My name is David, and I live in Berkeley, CA. This property was recently inherited and I am managing it as a vacation rental on behalf of myself and my two brothers Erich and Ben. Being a very special place we decided to retain the property and try VRBO rather than rent it to long term tenants. I am co-owner of a popular restaurant in Berkeley named Venus and visit Taos regularly.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2009

Why The Owner chose New Mexico

This home was inherited and rather than sell them we decided to try VRBO. It's been really neat getting to know so many interesting people who get to enjoy the comfort and accessability of this rental and leave so happy with the experience and the rates!

What makes this cottage unique

Taos is just pure charm. Galleries, museums, concerts, nightlife, many scenic and outdoor recreational opportunities. Great progressive people and culture. Besides comfort and beauty the main benifit of this Casita is Location, Location, Location! The ease at which one can stroll out the door to the local shops, taverns and restaurants as well as the farmers Market around the corner is very convenient. By being just slightly north of the plaza (in the more upscale part of town), there is quick and easy access to the pueblo, rio grande gorge and ski valley as well as the best grocery in town.

Quaint, Cute Casita

  • 5 of 5

Nice, comfortable Casita near Plaza in downtown Taos. Casita is an older property but has necessary amenities to include kitchen, dining area, living room and separate bedroom. There is a little alcove with a twin bed for another adult or child. There is a bath in main bedroom. OK for a couple or small family only. Casita is in back of large main house so there is no street noise from major road thru town. Small, narrow street in back of property allows access to plenty of parking for main house and casita.. Casita is fully furnished with microwave, stove and dishwasher. There is a washer and dryer in bathroom off main bedroom. Caretaker, Lavanne, is a wonderful lady and very helpful in making the stay a success! Property is close to Plaza and is an easy walk there and to several good restaurants. Good value for the price and much better than the available motels in town. We hope to be back again soon.

Great place to stay in historic Taos!

  • 4 of 5

I stayed in the casita for two nights and the location near the Taos Plaza, shops and restaurants could not have been better. I stayed there with my dog and we had a great time walking all around historic Taos and around Kit Carson park, which is about a block away. It was great to be able to walk everywhere and not hassle with parking. I highly recommend the small casita for 1-2 people due to there being only one shower and bathroom sink, as well as only one queen bed and one single bed. There is a larger house on the property that can accommodate larger groups. The casita location is on a shared property along an alley and other properties are somewhat close, but it was very quiet both during the day and night. No neighbor noise or barking dogs, which was great! The casita is very clean and comfortable. Some things, like towels and pots/pans, could use replacing with newer items, but the cost, location, cleanliness and niceness of the unit cannot be beat. Yavanne, who manages the property for David, was very quick to respond to any questions about the unit. I highly recommend staying at the casita for 1-2 people!

Great Casita Near the Plaza

  • 4 of 5

Loved the casita, great central location and it had everything I could want. Bedroom was comfortable. Lots of space, I would definitely stay here again when back in Taos.

Wonderful casita in downtown Taos

  • 5 of 5

We stayed twice in December during ski trips to Taos. Once in the larger house and then in the smaller casita. Both places were well equipped, inviting and sufficiently warm for the cold December nights. They felt like home! The location is superb as we walked to Christmas festivities in the plaza and to nearby restaurants. David was great to deal with but the real treat was getting to know Yavanne. She took excellent care of us, made sure that we had everything we needed, and even offered to cook for my 4 college aged boys (sons and nephews) that came with insatiable appetites. What a godsend to find food waiting for us when we returned from the ski hill. I recommend asking her to cook for your family/group!! She is a superb cook - better than the restaurants nearby - best guacamole that we have had and nice traditional roasted green chili stew (spicy which our NM kids have been missing in college!). We are already planning additional ski trips to Taos and will be talking to Yavanne about cooking more dishes for us. See you soon Yavanne and next time we are bringing some good wine to go with your food! Thanks.

Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

The place is nicer than the pictures and the wording in the listing suggest. David was great to deal with. The place is only a block or two from the main road, but is quiet. The outdoor space is great. There were guests at the main house, but the spacing between the properties is good (you are not right on top of them). Our dog loved laying in the grass outside. The weather was warm (90+), but the casita was comfortable. You can open the windows and get air flow and the building itself stays cool. There is a fan if you need it, but we didn't. The living area was large and there was HBO on the TV. Cell service was good for us with ATT. We would definitely stay again.

We had a great time. The little cottage was beautifully decorated, clean, and close to the plaza. The owner was very friendly. Everything was ready for us. Will certainly keep this cottage number for many return visits. I would recommend to others and it is as described.
