About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, Sleeping Porch, Sleeps 7

This lovely family home was built in 1828. The home is furnished with fine antiques. Located on over two acres of gardens, lawns and meadow, the house is just down the street from the historic Bennington Battle Monument in the Village of Old Bennington.

The first floor has a formal library-styled parlor, perfect for a quiet read. The family room, the original Old Kitchen, has a wood burning fireplace. It is a great place to gather for enjoying a drink and watching the fire or a bit of TV. Meals can be enjoyed in the separate dining room or in the updated kitchen at the antique kitchen table. One bedroom is conveniently located on the first floor. The bedroom has a queen bed and a full bathroom with a tub/shower.

Second Floor: Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. There is also a cozy T.V. room. One bedroom overlooks the back garden through a large bay window. Each bedroom has one double bed and one twin bed.The sleeping porch with one twin bed is enclosed and usable throughout the winter. The upstairs full bath has a vintage deep claw-footed tub. A half bath is adjacent to the sleeping porch.

Local Attractions: There are many local Bennington attractions, including the Bennington Battle Monument, the Old First Church, where poet Robert Frost is buried, the Bennington Museum, which includes works of the famous primitive artist, Grandma Moses, the Covered Bridge Museum and the Bennington Pottery. Bennington College is only a ten minute drive away, through the Silk Bridge, one of Vermont's remaining working covered bridges. Bennington is only twenty minutes from Manchester Center and outlet shopping. A twenty minute drive to the south is Williamstown, Massachusetts and the Clark Art Institute. Several ski areas, Stratton Mountain and Bromely are also with an hour drive. The Famous Vermont Country Store, in Weston, is an beautiful 45 minute drive.

  • The sleeping porch is very pleasant during the summer. It has been used for sleeping during the winter, even by my dad when he was 84 years old, one February- see snow pictures from that time. 'It was like sleeping inside a snow globe!' Brisk, but cozy under the electric blanket. But it may not be for everyone!

Peaceful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous Christmas Holiday spent at Monument House. The house is so cozy, comfortable and full of charm. It was super cold so we stayed warm with the roaring fire and good books! Such a peaceful time to get away from the city. Lucy was an excellent host and responded to every question quickly. We are very much looking forward to another stay!

Lovely, well maintained home in nice location!

  • 5 of 5

My golden retriever and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 month winter stay 2016-2017 in this charming, well maintained home in Old Bennington. The setting is lovely with an expansive yard and views of the historic Bennington Monument. We stayed warm and cozy, and especially appreciated the convenience of the attached garage and snow removal amenities. The owner, Lucy, and her property manager, Wendy, were very kind and hospitable, with attention to detail, ensuring a very pleasant experience. Thank you so much!

50th Wedding Anniversary & Grandbabies

  • 5 of 5

The Monument House far exceeded our expectations in regards to location, amenities and accommodations. The detailed instructions were very beneficial.

Our son and daughter-in-law flew in from Texas and stayed in the house with us for a week and our daughter, son-in-law and twin Granddaughters from Bennington joined us on numerous occasions.

We spent several evenings on the porch enjoying the beautiful views and on one occasion watching four deer in the back yard.

We originally had the property 11 days but decided, if available, to return after our one week trip to Maine. Called Lucy to see if the property was available and she said yes. We returned for another week to enjoy our 10 month old twin Granddaughters.

We would certainly recommend the Monument House to our family and friends. The property has everything you need for cooking and enjoying relaxing with your family.

Lucy and her management team made our stay so special. Looking forward to our next stay at the Monument House!!
