About Denise

We bought our 53 acres in 1978. We were part of the 'Back to the Land' movement of the 70's. We lived in our tepee for a summer while we built our cabin, sawmill and many other buildings. Later, we ran our lumber production business, raised three kids and built our current house. Bill hunts, fishes and rides is motorcycle. I garden, hike, camp, backpack, kayak, create multiple types of art and love being outdoors. We have three grown children and are new grandparents of twin boys.

Denise purchased this cabin in 1978

Why Denise chose Interlochen

Quiet, beautiful, expansive woodland just out your doorstep. The upper Platte River is a short walk, or ride, down the hill. A short, beautiful drive to Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Shoreline.

What makes this cabin unique

Sunny Ridge Cabin is located in Inland Township in Benzie County in N.W. lower Michigan. It is situated on 53 private acres of wooded property. The Perre Marquette State Forest borders the south and west edge of the acreage. Hiking, X-Country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, snowmobiling are right out the door. The upper Platte River is a top notch trout fishing; river access is a short walk or drive down the hill. The Michigan Shore to Shore hiking/horse back riding trail is one mile north on a beautiful country road. No need to drive to get there, you are there!

A steep stair case to the loft and wood stove may make this cabin unsuitable for small children.

Great Rustic Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with the cabin. It is rustic and very unique. Quiet setting, but near a lot of cool towns to explore. It was very clean and had everything we needed.

Totally private and well off the beaten path. Great cabin to unwind and reconnect with yourself. Owners are extremely friendly and think of your every need to make your stay perfect. Cabin is extremely comfortable and spotless. Just walking through the doors makes you feel like you've been there before and you have come back to a good spot!

The Perfect Escape

  • 5 of 5

First, working out all of the details with Denise was just wonderful. It is obvious she has put a great deal of time and thought into creating the best possible experience for guests. My wife and I booked this cabin to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was far better than the pictures. We stayed four days and 3 nights, we brought our puppy along (French Bulldog), and we had quite the experience. Two thumbs way up. We're already talking about returning for another trip, and we have been ranting and raving to all of our friends and family members about this cabin. Thanks, Denise!

Lovely Rural Cabin and Property

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this cabin in Fall of 2014 and absolutely adored it. It gorgeous inside and easily accommodated my wife and I and 2 small children. It's tucked away far back from the road, but still close enough to some really nice parks and Interlochen activities. Can't say enough nice things about the cabin (and the renter). Highly recommend!

Beautiful gem of a cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week and were so sad when we had to leave. The cabin was spotless and we had everything we needed. Our favorite place was to sit by the living room window and watch the hummingbirds every morning while having coffee! The windows were so clean, I was able to take great pictures of the hummingbirds while they were feeding. The kitchen had everything necessary to cook our own meals (which we didn't do too much of, as the restaurants close by are outstanding...) We played hours of board games at the kitchen table and when we went out for the day, it was a pleasure to see the light on in the cabin to welcome us "home" to a very comfy bed. The cabin is a true gem!

quiet, perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay in the little red house. We were able to cook many of our meals here, but we were close enough to Traverse City to have a few treats out. The wood burner was a delight for my husband, and I found the surrounding trees and birds very satisfying. The cleanliness was outstanding- the word 'rustic' does not apply! We didn't meet our hosts, but they were available if needed. We cannot think of a better way to spend our week than snuggled up in "our little cabin."
