Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7-14)

Our vacation home offers so much for a family to do. Leadville is a historic mining town close to Copper Mountain, Ski Cooper, Vail and Beaver Creek ski areas. The historic downtown features the Tabor Opera House, the National Mining Museum Hall of Fame, numerous antique shops, thrift shops, restaurants, cafes, saloons, sports shops, as well as ice cream, candy and fudge shops, all within walking distance, This is one of the very last historic mining towns in Colorado to retain much of its original charm.

The original part of this home was built in 1888. It has been significantly enlarged and completely remodeled. It is one of the largest and most comfortable homes in the downtown historic district. Although there are only 3 literal bedrooms, there are multiple other semi-private dens and alcoves with sofa sleeper-beds. The house easily can accommodate up to 14 people. There are spectacular mountain views off the large back deck overlooking a ring of 14-thousand foot peaks to the west, and 13-thousand foot peaks to the east in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. In addition to snow skiing and snowboarding, there are multiple cross country ski trails, a large snow sledding/tubing hill, snowmobile rentals, and dog mushing tours. In the summer, hiking, biking, river rafting, mountain climbing and golfing are all available. You can also take a breathtaking train ride through the Aspens and mountain flowers overlooking the headwaters of the Arkansas River on the Leadville & Southern Railroad. If you have an interest in mountain biking, the Leadville Trail 100 start and finish line is two blocks away.

This home is heated by base-board heating, so in the winter it is warm. There is a river-rock fireplace area with wood-burning stove in the living room and Direct TV with HD flat screen. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to entertain family and friends. There is a TV and pool table in the basement. Our kids even like to sleep downstairs in the basement near the pool table while they play video games.

There is a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer available. The house is located on a city corner and the property sits on 4 city lots. There is a one care garage, plus extra room to park additional cars and even an RV.

About Kim Nugent-Anderson

Kim and Austin Anderson have always wanted to have a house in the mountains. Our Leadville home offers the comfort of being within walking distance to shops and cafes on main street. We like spending summers there when it is over 100 degrees in Texas. It might be 75 in Leadville for the high that day.

Kim Nugent-Anderson purchased this house in 2007

Why Kim Nugent-Anderson chose South Central

We really like going to the Colorado Rockies two seasons per year. Winter for skiing and Summer for hiking and mtn biking. We enjoy Leadville because it is very historic and quaint.

What makes this house unique

Our kids enjoy taking off to explore and hike. They can go to the town's BMX bike track, the Skate Park, or the indoor pool. It is such a small town, they can go anywhere safely. Even the downtown to the rock shop, cafes or fudge shop. The freedom they enjoy in Leadville is enlightening, and are always asking when will we be able to return?

Great location in downtown

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this home (and it is a home) in for the Leadville trail 100 run in August. It far exceeded our expectations. The photos really do not do justice. Key takeaways:

- Very large and roomy

- Well laid out, with plenty of social space downstairs, and three sizeable bedrooms upstairs

- Master is very large, with its own sitting area

- Nice backyard, and nice deck of the top level for views towards the mountains

- Well furnished. This is not a luxury rental, but it is very homey and comfortable

- Lots of space for lots of people. We did not take full advantage of it, but this would fit 2+ families comfortably.

- Excellent wifi

Finally, it is only block off Harrison street. For anyone attending the leadville race series, only 2 blocks from the starting line on 6th and Harrison. Could not be easier to walk into town, yet still on a quiet street. Impossible to have a better location. If/when we come back to Leadville, we will be staying here.

Owners were also very nice. I could tell that this was a "home" from them (I assume a second home) and treated it as such, not just an income property.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful home in downtown Leadville! Just one block off the main street, yet very quiet and within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. Couldn't have been more convenient for our one week stay. Views from the upstairs deck are incredible -- watch the sun set over the two highest peaks in Colorado! House is well-maintained, very comfortable, and had everything we need for our stay (three couples and a friend). The owners were very professional and a pleasure to deal with -- I highly recommend this property. We'll be back for sure!

Spring Break 2012

  • 5 of 5

We shared this well appointed home with another family (two couples and 4 big boys!) and there was plenty of space. Kitchen was well-stocked and the property well-maintained. Walking distance to downtown Leadville. Loved the mudroom for keeping ski equipment. The master suite is FABulous! We will definitely come again!

Skijoring

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property while in Leadville for Skijoring (lots of fun) and skiing. We enjoyed the stay and the house. It is very comfortable and has everything you might need except for groceries. Being only one block from downtown, we walked to Skijoring and restaurants. What fun! We will be back.

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We would highly recommend staying at this home. The mountain top views from this home are beautiful. We had a group of 6 adults and 7 children and were very relaxed. The accomodations were great! The house was clean, beds were comfortable, plenty of room and we never ran out of hot water!!

The location of this home offers easy walking access to the town. The children were able to ice skate and sled in town.

Tour a Gold Mine, take a train through the mountains for spectacular views of the Rockies 14ers. Don't miss the Mineral Belt Trail a 11.5 mile paved bike/hiking path around Leadville. Finally, go to an opera in the historic Tabor Opera House. A venue in operation since the 1800's.
