'Inside Out' - the Best Way to Live Your Life

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom sleeping 2 guests ONLY. 2 Bathrooms with Shower

'Inside Out' is situated at one end of the beautiful golden sand beach of Grand Anse. The apartment is within the grounds of our house but is separate from the main house. It is light and bright with fly screens at all windows so you can take full advantage of the wonderful breezes. The setting is simply spectacular with breath-taking views of the whole of Grand Anse beach and the Caribbean Sea. It is magical at any time of the day and especially so at night.

There are stairs to the property but the accommodation is entirely on one level; the main road at the bottom of the hill is a 15 minute walk away - a great walk going down but the steep roads make it advisable to have a car .

We offer you a relaxed and stress-free vacation. We are on hand at all times to assist as necessary or simply for a chat, but you can be as private as you wish. The pool and decking area is large and extremely comfortable and is entirely yours and will not be shared by anyone while you are here. There are very comfortable chairs and sun beds; recliners with foot-rests. All seating comes with cushions.

A lovely apartment for a super vacation. The air-conditioned ensuite Seaview bedroom with king bed has a great view of the sea and island. There are two large wardrobes with an abundance of hangers and draw space. There is a TV in the bedroom as well as one in the sitting room. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, full size cooker and oven, microwave and comes complete with an abundance of crockery, cutlery and gadgets. The sitting room contains a wonderful 'L' shaped sofa and lots of cushions to make this a comfortable place to be.

Outside you have many areas where you can relax; on the decking itself or in the Gazebo and simply take your time to unwind and enjoy the views and do nothing! There is also a lovely patio with table and chairs for breakfast or an evening meal under the stars.

You have one of the best movie theatres in the World, no one in the front row to block your view and seats wherever you want them to be and wonderful cruisers - which film star does that one belong to? - and glorious sunsets to look at.

Although this is self-catering accommodation we are more than happy to offer delicious meals on request which are very reasonably priced. Our 'signature' dish is Shrimp Piri-Piri; this is unique to 'Inside Out' and is accompanied with a lightly spiced Basmati rice and sauteed sweet potatoes. That just gives you an idea of what this place is all about.

The Gazebo on the pool deck is great for just sitting in and relaxing with a cup of coffee and a book and just as good for lunch. And in the evening of course you can have a romantic dinner for two with the stars around, the 5-masted schooners sailing across the sea and the flickering lights around Grand Anse Beach. No sound of traffic - bliss!

This is a rural area so you can expect to see Grenada as a local. Our location is perfect because it offers peace and tranquility and yet you can, within a few minutes, be in a more lively setting when you choose.

Note: We have dogs for security. This is a large property and the dogs are always out in the garden. This is a precaution and it is better to be prepared than be scared. Our dogs live outside downstairs and are NEVER allowed upstairs where the apartment is or on any of the facilities of decking/pool or outside upstairs.

This is the closest thing to Paradise, but don't take my word for it, come and see for yourselves!

Keywords: Condo/Apartment with super little pool. INTERNET ACCESS in all rooms and outside.

LAUNDRY ROOM available at all times with a very small charge for electricity, soap powder etc.

About Ellen Smalley

Hello, I am Ellen and I grew up in England. Stewart, my husband, and I love the outdoor life but it's too cold in England for me. We spent several years in Kenya where we first went on holiday; we were then offered work there operating a Big Game Fishing Boat and we divided our time between 6 months there and 6 months in the UK. We were certain that this was what we wanted to do with our lives. We chose Grenada and the St. George's area because we have the best of both worlds; the beautiful beach of Grand Anse and the shops and restaurants nearby, and the lively capital town of St. George's. The people are truly friendly; the climate is wonderful - the temperature never drops below 23c at night and is around 31c during the day - and naturally we now have our own Big Game Fishing Charter boat but you don't have to go fishing in order to come to 'Inside Out' - that is just another activity which we can offer to our guests on Grenada. Our accommodation is suitable for all ages and we have met some super people from around the world. So, we are hoping that you will visit us very soon in Grenada and come to stay at 'Inside Out'. I have always been enthusiastic about cooking and food and several years ago I went to college to learn about catering and food prep. Cooking a meal, however simple, is something that I can create each time; it isn't a chore but a wonderful way to do a job which I love. I have been very lucky and have been paid many compliments for my meals. We have a wide range of meals from fish, naturally, and meat to very tasty vegetarian dishes.

Ellen Smalley purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Ellen Smalley chose Saint Georges

We built our own home here including a vacation rental because of the fabulous natural location. We are perfectly situated for all activities and yet secluded; it is so peaceful and on a hill-top setting the sunrises and sunsets are unbelievable. The property is at one end of Grand Anse beach and it will take no more than 5 minutes to drive to the shops and restaurants and the beach. Peace and quiet when you want it and a more social life otherwise. The weather is fabulous with a constant temperature of about 31c during the day. The beaches are clean and the water temperature is warm! What more can you want? You can snorkel and go diving and if you don't want to be in the water you can also travel over the water and visit our sister island of Carriacou.

What makes this apartment unique

At 'Inside Out' you can relax completely; it is your home for the time you stay. We will do whatever we can to help, from loaning umbrellas, calling taxis, arranging an outing for you, picking you up at the bus stop etc. We believe renting a car will add to your holiday however.

I believe 'Inside Out' is unique in many ways; it is truly relaxing, exceptionally friendly, outstandingly welcoming and trust me, you won't want to leave this bit of Paradise to go back home. But then, this is Grenada and 'Inside Out'. You have everything here.

Gotta love it.

My wife and I just finished spending a month with Stewart and Ellen at their beautiful location. The "inside out"cottage is just great and perfect for long stays. I was able to enjoy my hobby of cooking, Ellen is a super cook who provided me with tips and herbs from her garden and Stewart provided us with produce grown on their property including bananas which we gladly finished our evenings off with by flambeing them with brown sugar, butter and local rum. They are gracious hosts and it was more than a vacation as we left having made good friends that we hope to visit again. The photos they have posted are not exaggerated, the views and sunsets are amazing and unmatched anywhere. Their friend can provide a very good rate on a rental car which he made easily available to us and we just effortlessly left it at the airport when we left. Stewart has a 31 foot Bertram charter boat and my wife was able to catch her first billfish with him and first mate George on a super day at sea. You should really experience this and take your time, you won't regret it.

Owner's Response: What a truly fabulous review. Karen and Greg thank you so very much for loving this place of ours and appreciating the beauty as we do. We are definitely blessed to have found it and more so to discover that we have so many wonderful guests from all over the world who feel the same. We miss you; when we open our door you're not there! We would love it if you could come back again another time; you cook one evening and I the other and we throw the dishes outta the window so no washing up duties!

Great View!!

  • 5 of 5

We were met at the police department (it seems everybody gets arrested on arrival there) by Stewart Smalley, and followed him at night on a winding trail that was quite fun to drive, and found food and drink waiting for us in the refrigerator, and spirits offered, too. Then, after getting up in the morning went exploring the property and it is as pictured with a tremendous view Grand Anse Bay, and the deck is perfectly placed for great sunsets. Ellen did make us her Shrimp Piri Piri, one of her African dishes with just the right spices to leave lips and mouth warm. And Stewart, the sommelier and bartender, foisted large amounts of wine on us and regaled us with all kinds of fish stories; and both had suggestions on what to do while on the island...they actually suggested we leave it...and go to another one, Carriacou, by ferry the next day. Driving on the island is better than even in the Dominican Republic, the roads are even more narrow and very twisty/turny; I, as driver, had a hoot, my girlfriend/wife/passenger, not so much. And for us from the USA, driving from the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the road...proving that two wrongs do, indeed, make a right. When going into St. Georges and wandering around and looking lost, we asked a guy, Herman it turned out, how to get to the fort and the market and it turned out he guided us all over the place, even out into the boonies to the rainforest and a lake and waterfalls up there and tried to find friendly monkeys to play with...the monkeys were having none of it, so we did not pay for that little park tour...but it was a really great drive (for me, not my girlfriend/wife/passenger), and we would never have found anything without Herman. Car rental...we rented form Archie because he responded better to concerns about insurance, would meet us at the airport, etc. Knowing what I do now, I would just have Stewart pick us up since he has to meet us to lead us in anyway, and rent from their neighbor Lorrie. As far as the police station episode, before Archie would let us have a car, they took us in that car to the police station to get a Grenada driving permit, and that is why Stewart met us at the police station to lead us home. Archie's car had a flat spare, the inside of the windshield had NEVER been washed and caused quite a glare, but Ellen had glass cleaner and paper towels, so I washed the windshield three times and it was OK. I would go again to "Inside Out" without hesitancy.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much to King Charles and his lovely Consort for this great review. We loved having you here and chatting with you, you reminded me so much of Robin Williams I had to tell myself you couldn't possibly be him. For all our guests at "Inside Out" - past, present and future - one of the best perks in this work is meeting a huge variety of people from all over the world. Every characteristic is unique and we have been blessed to have had the opportunity to become acquainted with some and in so doing we have had tremendous fun and wonderful times together. Charlie and Ginger have been just two of the super guests we have had the pleasure of meeting. We say 'Encore Please'.

A Slice of Grenadian Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We can only endorse what all the other great reviews have said about "Inside Out". The apartment is spotlessly clean and has lots of little extras that you might have forgotten to bring and even the use of a local mobile phone which we found very useful. Ellen and Stewart are friendly. generous and so unobtrusive you don't know they are there unless you need them. Stewart kindly stopped at the local store for us to pick up some essentials on our way from the airport which wasn't necessary as Ellen had so thoughtfully provided a generous "Welcome Pack" for all our breakfast needs. The view is stunning the breeze cooling and "Inside Out" was everything we could have hoped for and more, so peaceful and relaxing exactly what we wanted. We would recommend both Ellen's Curry Night and private Dining her food is fabulous and Stewart is a very generous bartender!!! We would also recommend hiring a car from their neighbour Lorry who is not only very competitively priced but also friendly and helpful with extensive local knowledge.

We loved "Inside Out" and Grenada so much we have already booked to return next year!

We find it difficult to speak highly enough about Ellen and Stewarts "Inside Out" as useless superlatives will not suffice.

Inside Out is a marvellous well equipped spacious and well kept apartment in a wonderful location just far enough away from Grand Ance to shelter you from the hustle and bustle but close enough to participate in, such as it is !! Take a look at the pictures that Ellen and Stewart published, they represent the situation extremely well. On arrival we were stunned that the beauty and location exceeded our expectations and it is not often one can claim that.

Ellen and Stewart are hosts of the finest order, there if you need any helpful tips and advice on how to enjoy the Island and not there when you wish your privacy.

It is necessary to hire a motorised vehicle for your stay as the elevated location overlooking Grand Ance provides stunning views but also steep access roads. Ask for details of Lorry's hire services. Hiring a vehicle is the perfect way to enjoy splendid Grenada, a leisurely drive to truly deserted beaches at the top of the island and more local activities and shopping.

And if you don't feel like preparing your own meals, just leave everything to Ellen, you will not be disappointed, speak to Ellen the day before to discuss your perfect supper.

Many many thanks Ellen and Stewart, and also to the hounds for making our stay such a relaxing and comfortable time.

A Return Visit

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our first visit to Inside Out in December 2013 so much we just had to return. Our second visit even more enjoyable than our first.

Ellen and Stewart the perfect hosts, their garden is a provider of glorious tropical fruits it was our luck that when we stayed passion fruits and other fruits were in abundance and available for us to enjoy every day. PERFECT.

I am not going to say any more as I have said it all before in my previous reviews and also just in case too many discover this gem that when we wish to make our next visit Inside Out is already booked!!!

Thank you again Ellen and Stewart, and so pleased that naughty Crystal and Alpha found their way back.

Fantastic Apartment!

  • 5 of 5

What a great apartment! Where to start??

Ok, so first of all the apartment is on top of a hill, a big hill! So the views over Grand Anse beach are amazing and you get some fantastic sunsets too! Then there's the pool, it's lovely, totally secluded and perfect for cooling off in, with loads of recliners and tables and chairs around it. Then there's the apartment itself, almost all the wall space is given over to opening windows that have mesh on the front which keeps the inside bug free! and means it's cool, there's a fully kitted out kitchen, two bathrooms and a brilliantly comfortable huge bed in the bedroom!

Then there's the 6 lovely Jack Russells and 2 big (but not scary) Rottweiler's - their antics, as you watch them unseen from above, are hilarious!

The apartment is less than a 5 minute drive from Grand Anse beach - you must try the Carriacou Love Bites, Conch Fritters and Jack Daniels glazed chicken wings at Umbrellas on the beach. The best beach is back towards the airport look for signs to the Beach House restaurant - walk down the paths either side of the fences surrounding the Beach House and you are on Dr Grooms beach - stunning! And in September almost deserted! But there are so many great places to eat and beaches to visit and Grenada is small enough to drive around in a few hours - we know we did it!

Lastly, and by no means leastly, there's the owners Ellen and Stewart in their house right next door. We didn't meet Stewart, he was off visiting family in the UK, but Ellen was the most wonderful host. She really made us feel so welcome, from collecting us at the airport and rustling up something for 2 weary travellers to eat on their first night, to the really thoughtful bottle of sparkling wine and card for our wedding anniversary and advice on things to do and places to eat out in; nothing was too much. I have to say at the end of our week we both had a little tear in our eyes as we said good bye to Ellen and "Inside Out".

We really hope to return some time in the not too distant future!

Owner's Response: Thank you Mark and Adri for sending in this great review. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay here so much and it is so good to know that you liked the apartment and all the facilities we offer. Thank you for making Grenada your holiday destination island and for choosing "Inside Out" as your home away from home. We loved having you here and perhaps the next time Adri and I can go and do some salsa dancing!

Car: necessary

It is easy to reach the Grand Anse Beach and you can walk the entire soft-sandy length and beautiful crescent shaped beach. Along the way you can stop off at the craft market or have a dip or even a swim in the clean, clean waters of the Caribbean Sea. When hungry, why not stop for breakfast or lunch or try a lovely cappuccino.

Also available exclusively to 'Inside Out' is our own Big Game Sport Fishing boat - a 31ft classic Bertram. You can have a fun day out with us fishing for Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi-Mahi etc. This is an optional extra and you need to check with us on availability.
