Description

Isle of Palms House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

This light and airy cottage is only one block to the beach. Each of the two bedrooms has its own private bath. One bedroom has a double bed, the other a queen bed. There is also a twin trundle bed on the sun room, which provides sleeping space for two. The sun room has a half bath and a door for privacy. It also serves as a sunny dining room and a sitting room. The screen porch has a dining area, comfortable sling chairs and a relaxing hammock, with room for two. The second story sundeck offers peeks at the ocean. It is a great spot to enjoy your morning coffee, a relaxing meal, reading or sunbathing in the Adirondack chairs or evening stargazing. Because the yard is shaded by a giant ancient cedar and many live oaks, the house and yard feel very private. The private outdoor shower has both hot and cold water. The back yard is fenced to protect children and pets.

The uncrowded beach is a magnet for local surfers and is also great for boogie boarding. You can swim, sail and kayak in the ocean or go out in the creeks canoeing, kayaking, fishing and crabbing. There are several great restaurants on the island and even more in Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan's Island and Charleston. The Shops of Mount Pleasant and King's Street in Charleston offer wonderful shopping opportunities. Downtown Charleston offers Historic Houses, theater and The Gibbes Museum. There is something for everyone!

About Mary Maclachlan

Our love of nature and the coast keeps us coming back to the Isle of Palms. We enjoy watching the birds and butterflies in our yard and the shore birds on the ocean and in the creeks. Our children now return here for visits from their present homes in Austin, Texas, Sacramento, California and Bologna, Italy. Mary and Morgan Maclachlan

Mary Maclachlan purchased this house in 1981

Why Mary Maclachlan chose Charleston Area

When we moved to South Carolina in 1972 we came to the Isle of Palms as often as we could. We enjoyed the family friendly beach and the fact that it was less than 30 minutes to the beautiful, historic city of Charleston. When we had a chance to buy a cottage here in 1981 we jumped at the chance. We chose our house because it had a high lot with beautiful cedar trees. Only one ancient cedar tree survived Hurricane Hugo in 1989. The water came within a foot of our house, but the house and our newly built deck survived.

What makes this house unique

We love walking on the beach in the morning with our border collie Livvy. She can run off lead until 9:00 am and until 10:00 am in the winter months. It is amazing how much fun the dogs and their people have during this time. We like to go to the Charleston County Park, just up highway 17 and to the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge, a little further up highway 17 in Awendaw. Most of all we just like hanging out with family and friends in this beautiful place.

Another great visit!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd visit to the Charming Cottage and will not be our last. Great location, (hot, sunny) weather, beautiful beach and fun with family! We unplugged (by choice, there is perfect wi-fi there) for a week not checking email, facebook or twitter. Only checked phones to look for any calls or texts a few times. Such a delightful place to unwind and relax! The house had everything we and the pups needed. Thanks Mary!

Great Location

  • 3 of 5

Great location, one block from the beach, 15 min from Charleston. Great layout to the house, perfect for up to five people. Added bonus, the beach allows dogs off leash until 9 AM. The owner was very easy to deal with and helpful. This was one of the few non mega size houses in the neighborhood so more affordable for us. This was my second trip here, I will return if I can.

A must stay for the Isle of Palms

  • 5 of 5

We arrived Sept 10-14 and absolutely loved everything about the house. It is our favorite that we have stayed at. We loved the fenced in back yard with the patio table and chairs. The screened in porch was great with the hammock and we loved the above deck. We loved the layout of the house and the bathrms. Our dogs had a blast at the house and the close proximity of the beach. It was very cleaned and well maintained. We will be back again. Thanks so much for such a lovely inviting cottage house.

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely love, Love, LOVE this house! We stayed at it twice this year and hope to return in 2016. The bedrooms/bathrooms layout is great providing privacy with large, common areas for fellowship. The sunroom is wonderful as well as the screened porch with huge deck above. The proximity to the beach and to town is perfect! We’ve been vacationing on IOP for many years and this is the first pet friendly house that actually had a fenced year as advertised (no pet escape routes). Definitely gets my recommendation (just don’t choose the week we want to come back)!

Nice Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

This property was just as advertised and perfect for our needs. Clean and cozy and convenient. Even though this is a small house its layout was very conducive to allowing everyone to having their own space. The proximity to the beach was the best. We made frequent trips to Charleston at night and the commute was a breeze 30 min max.

Charming and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed the proximity to the beach and to Charleston and other communities. While we were a small group of women celebrating a special birthday and in the area only a few days, we were able to pack in a lot---walking tour of Charleston, Angel Oak Tree on John's Island, Hank's Seafood in Charleston (wonderful!!), Sullivan's Island, Shem Creek, and more. The cottage comfortably met all our needs, especially kitchen supplies that made it possible to prepare our own fresh seafood for multiple meals. We also enjoyed some time on the beach that was only a short walk away from the cottage.
