Two charming, vintage, cute, and homey 2 bedroom cottages sit side by side on the river minutes from Sandusky Bay and 30 minutes from Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH. THE EGRET COTTAGE SLEEPS 7 and the SWALLOWS'S NEST SLEEPS 5 FOR A TOTAL OF 12 people if you rent the two cottages or if you NEED LESS ROOM RENT 1. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS ARE BEST SUITED FOR FAMILIES WITH A COMBINATION OF TWIN AND DOUBLE BEDS AND SLEEP SOFAS. If renting only one cottage divide the rental fee in half. Enjoy views of the river from the large airy windows or the deck. Many Egrets, Swallows, Herons, Gulls, Swans, and songbirds populate this area throughout the year. Deer and fox can be observed around the area as well.
Bring your boat, fishing gear, water skis, water equipment, and binoculars. The cottages are fully furnished and fully air conditioned. A playground for kids is one block away. 2 docks for docking and fishing also available at no charge.
Pickerel Creek, Blue Heron Reserve, and OWNR close by. One half hour from Cedar Point and the Port Clinton or Sandusky ferry boats to the Islands. Boating, water skiing, tubing, biking on site. Quaint popular eating establishments in nearby Fremont include: Whitey’s Diner and Billy’s Restaurant, and The Tackle Box well know for its generous 1 pound perch special on Friday evenings and Walleye special on Wednesday. If you bring a boat you can easily take your boat upriver to the Tackle Box to enjoy a perch or walleye feast.

Spring and Summer Fishing: Ideal fishing for interested fishermen is the spring walleye run on the Sandusky River in Fremont. For walleye anglers, the Sandusky River in downtown Fremont offers plenty of action. Shore anglers can access the river easily at Swartzlander Park in downtown Fremont. Shoreline anglers can also fish the bay at Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area, Willow Point Wildlife Area, and upstream the action begins earlier with Memory Marina and Riverfront Marina providing boating access to the river where these transitional fish can be found. Huge catches of Walleye are taken from the river in downtown Fremont. The most consistent success on spring walleye usually occurs in the deep pools that line the Sandusky River between the State Street and Miles Newton Bridges in Fremont. The run usually peaks in early April, but fishing stays good throughout the month with White Bass fishing following the Walleye run through June. A variety of pan fish can be easily caught throughout the year.
Birding Opportunities & Memory Marina: Because of the proximity of the river, bay, and lake great birding Hot Spots include the various wildlife areas, ponds and tributaries on site or nearby. Close by areas include the Magee Marsh & Ottawa National Wldlife area, Castalia and the Resthaven area, Blue Heron Reserve, and Pickerel Creek. Eagles, Herons, Egrets and songbirds can be observed right from the cottage. Memory Marina is located ¼ of a mile from the cottage. You can put your boat in at this location and dock in front of the cottage. Memory Marina also operates a little store with many tasty and useful items for your convenience. Most mornings eagles can easily be seen from the cottage deck or large windows of the cottage where you can observe them hunting for breakfast while you enjoy yours.
President Hayes Home: The Hayes Home and museum, Fremont's National Treasurer, offers outdoor concerts on the veranda the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month during the summer. Hayes was the 19th president of the United States. The home at Speigel Grove sits on a large hill and is surrounded by beautiful mature trees many of which were planted when the Hayes family occupied the home. A Civil War enactment held each fall at Spiegel Grove. Chateau Tableau winery is also nearby in Helena and is a unique experience for wine lovers.
