About Debby and Bruce

Bruce and Debby are transplanted Boston suburbanites who came to Kennebunkport full-time following work in high tech startups and a decade as hotel/beach bar owners in the British Virgin Islands. It was love at first sight when they got lost in Cape Porpoise in 1981 and purchased their house on that very day. Now retired, Bruce and Debby live across the street and enjoy the many friends and exploits of their 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

Debby and Bruce purchased this house in 1981

Why Debby and Bruce chose Southern Coast

On our first trip to Maine, we followed the coast and ended up in this quiet, picturesque cove. A ‘For Sale’ sign was just being hammered into the ground in front of 25 Pier Road and our offer was accepted a few hours later. After 30 years we have come to love the community, and the wide range of activities of the area.

What makes this house unique

On the water with its own dock, the house is within walking distance of 8 restaurants, a library, grocery store, post office and coffee shop/take-out deli/catering service. The many shops and restaurants, beaches and golf courses of Kennebunkport and Kennebunk are all within a 5-minute drive. And the house is mid-way between the beautiful seaside towns of Portland and Portsmouth with their top-rate restaurants, museums, and other attractions. High tide kayaking and low tide walks to the many islands at the head of the harbor, including Goat Island with its lovely lighthouse to be climbed. A short walk from the house, Pier Road ends on a bustling fishing/lobstering pier with three restaurants (an outdoor casual lobster restaurant, a sports pub, and a high-end gourmet restaurant with beautiful harbor views). Spend time on the pier watching the lobstermen bringing in their daily catch or try your hand at fishing. The cottage's lawn makes a great spot for sunbathing, bocci, croquet, or passing the evening around the outdoor firepit.

Our family had a great vacation at cape Porpoise thanks to great hosts and an awesome house.

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time thanks to the hospitality of Debby and Bruce. They made us feel welcome right from the start. Even our dog Lilly was welcomed. The house is located on a great spot, has a great deck overlooking an inlet. There is so much to do, and you need not travel far. The house is an older home, but very well kept and undoubtedly has become a nice place for families.

Great location and great house

  • 4 of 5

Large house cozy for families ! The location and the deck are fabulous to live. So nice to be able to walk to the stores, the lobster and fish provider, the dock. The boat, kayak and canoe is and are all Great to discover the islands around. We had only wek and would have stay much more ! The house gives a feeling of having great family past and we feel immediatly at ease. though it might need a little love for some aspect at it lived a long life ! We appreciated all the books, the beach toys, the puzzles on rainy day and the fire pit outside! Considering the high price, the kitchen would not suffer from a few updates (dangerous toaster, rusty ustensiles, no BBQ ustensiles) and a good deep cleaning. THe landlords living on the other side of thebstreets were awsome and very responsive, helpful and pleasant.

A Gem!

  • 5 of 5

The Dock is wonderful. Debby and Bruce were gracious, welcoming, and helpful. The house is spacious but has a cottage like feel (felt wonderful the moment we stepped inside). Terrific space with a living area that adjoins a large, comfortable dining area. We had our families join us for lobsters, and we comfortably sat ten. The kitchen, more than fully equipped, has views over the water, and there is a comfortable sun porch, where we spent hours. There were just two of us, but there were two other bedrooms with plenty of room to sleep 6 more. The deck has an easy to use awning with plenty of comfortable seating. It's a quiet, comfortable, peaceful spot, yet if you want to sit on the front porch, you can watch plenty of friendly locals and visitors alike go by. We had everything we wanted and needed within walking distance. This place is a gem, with everything you could possibly need. Already looking to book for next year. Thanks for sharing your amazing place, Debby and Bruce!

Great renters, great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. This is a fantastic location in an idyllic part of Maine. The house has old Maine charm and was perfect for my wife, myself and our two boys age 10 and 13. We enjoyed the canoe, kayak, dock, roasting marshmallows, sitting out on the deck overlooking the harbor and relaxing in the Adirondeck chairs. Debbie and Bruce made us feel very welcome when we first arrived and throughout our stay. 5 Stars for a good house, great renters and a wonderful location that you will enjoy.

Beautiful spot!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Bruce and Debbie's house with our 3 young children and had a wonderful time! The house is located right on the harbor in Cape Porpoise, which has all of the beauty and grandeur of the Maine coast with little tourist traffic. This is a real Maine village with a working pier and a mix of locals and vacation home owners . . . and a handful of visitors like us. The house is rustic with loads of history, which we really appreciated. We were very comfortable in the house and the kids slept well in the bunk room. Bruce was very attentive and ensured that we had all we needed. There was tons to do -- the house had a canoe, kayak, and row boat with an outboard motor! And it was a 5 minute walk to restaurants and art galleries, a 10 minute walk to the working pier, and a 10 minute drive to Dock Square in Kennebunkport. We hope to have more visits in our future!

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

It was a wonderful location owned by two great people. Debbie and Bruce were prompt in their responses. This was my first time renting with VRBO and I felt like I was in good hands. The rental was beautiful and clean. Overall great experience all around. If only they could do something about the May weather ;-)!
