About Alison & Peter Eller

We are the owners of the main house on the property. In 2009 we built the first laneway house built by owner in our neighbourhood under new city zoning that was inspired by the city's eco-density initiatives. Peter is a designer practicing in both graphic and furniture design and creation in his studio on the property. Alison works as a nurse educator in public health with a focus in health promotion and prevention for infants, children, youth and their families. We are active with our two boys, and enjoy the diversity of guests who we welcome to our corner of the city. We welcome feedback and enjoy connecting with our guests that come from near and far to stay close to family in the neighbourhood, or simply to enjoy the comfort yet convenience of our residential, yet central city location. We welcome families and pets and have supplies to accommodate both children and your furry friends which can be arranged as needed. We are believers in the process of Kaizen, 'slow and constant change' so always welcome the feedback of our guests.

Alison & Peter Eller purchased this house in 2009

Why Alison & Peter Eller chose Vancouver

We live in the main house on the property and LOVE our neighborhood. It is the most community oriented place we have ever lived, and is also the most urban place we have every lived. Having both grown up in more suburban locales the novelty of being right in the city has never worn off. We really value the proximity of our property to so many of the wonderful things the city has to offer, within walking, biking or short drive distances. We also love the beautiful trees and green space along our street and at the park 100m from our house. Though we are in a very central location, our house is in a protected centre of a quiet and beautiful neighborhood bordered by major streets which get you where you want to go very quickly. Many families in our neighbourhood rent their basement suites and need space to accommodate their out of town guests. Our loft is the perfect spot for friends and family members to stay close by.

What makes this house unique

Superior craftsmanship, functional design and sustainable living have guided the creation of this unique space. The radiant heating in the concrete floor, the high ceilings, abundant natural light, and beautiful wood accents stand out. It just feels good to be in the space.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Alison & Peter: We really enjoyed our stay at the Ecoloft. We found the space to be perfect for our needs. The open concept and extendable tables made it a very guest friendly space. We even had a birthday for our son with some guests and the space accommodated this with no problem. The kitchen is beautiful and fully functional so we were able to cook dinner for 6 people no problem. We would certainly not hesitate to book the loft again on our next trip back to Vancouver! Warmest Regards...

Cute little carriage suite with a convenient location

  • 4 of 5

Nice place to stay. The shower was very comfortable for two people to share. The open floor plan made the place feel big despite it's actual square footage. Was conveniently located for access to shopping and site-seeing. If the weather wouldn't have been so hot, it would have been ideal. Though the accommodations were comfortable, we happened to be there on a hot week where there wasn't a lot of breeze. There is no air conditioning so you have to open the windows and try to get a cross breeze, which wasn't always happening. Also, the windows don't have screens so though few bugs came in, we still felt too paranoid of mosquitoes attacking us in the night to sleep with the windows open. Host was pleasant and accommodating to our needs. Other thing to note, if you are someone who likes to walk around scantily dressed, the short windows in the kitchen don't currently have any sort of covering, but they look out on to other people's backyards, so it makes you feel like you should put a shirt on at least before you head to the kitchen to make yourself a cup of coffee. I did leave this feedback for the owner prior to leaving so hopefully they can fix that soon for the more modest travelers. The bedroom and bathroom area are easy to close off from view though, so you have plenty of privacy and space to get dressed, etc. So, some minor inconveniences, but overall a nice place that I would definitely consider staying at again if the weather was not expected to be super hot and unusually stagnant.

Vancouver Mini-Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the apartment for a long weekend. We had difficulties paying and we didn't receive responses to our messages for a few days, but once that was resolved we made it work! We didn't meet with Alison but the apartment was ready for us upon arrival. It looks just like the photos and we were impressed with the large, fully stocked kitchen and the huge shower! The bed was also very comfortable! The apartment isn't located close to downtown but it fit our needs. A few things we noticed during our stay: It looks like the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, there is no air conditioning and few windows which let in a lot of bugs (mosquitoes, bees, and flies), the bathroom sink filled with water quickly, the TV only has a few channels. Overall, we still enjoyed our stay but would recommend some changes to improve the space.

We had a great time! The homeowners were kind and gracious and we loved the loft. It had everything we needed in a great location. It housed the 4 of us very well and we loved the park and ice cream shop within walking distance.

Be back to stay in a minute!

  • 5 of 5

The Ecoloft was so comfortable to stay in and beautifully appointed! Three of us were staying while in Vancouver for a short course and it suited us to a T. Lots of room for all of our gear. The loft is in a great neighbourhood and Alison was a treat to meet and deal with. All of us said we would go back with our families when we find ourselves in Vancouver again. The description doesn't do the property justice.

Great location in a quiet area of the city. Ideal for pets as ot has concrete floors. Alison was available if needed and the place is pretty well equipped. I stayed a week and would stay again if needed.
