Mixed experience at Havi
The cottage was nice but the windows were left open and everything was damp including the bedding. The steep driveway was rough and a big pothole actually damaged our rental car! Handling an insurance claim while on vacation is not fun.
It's A Bug's Life
We stayed in 5 different properties in our two weeks on the Island and this was a bit disappointing. The biggest issue was the bugs; both inside and out. If the owner would have taken some care to see that at least the inside of the cottage had some extermination, we would be able to give it one more star. Two other properties were in a rain forest so we understand the challenges that homeowners may face with nature but this was a tough one. Based on the four other properties we stayed in, for the price, we would have expected more amenities. Mason jar glasses for drinking, no iron/ironing board. Outside rusted washer with a clothesline (rained both days we were there.) This property has potential but needs more attention to detail.
I am sorry that you had a disappointing experience in the cottage. We try very hard to maintain highest possible standards, but sometimes circumstances get away from us. When it rains it pours and when it pours insects look for cover themselves and there are a lot of them. Here in Hawaii, as you are likely aware the state has been experiencing abnormal tremendous deluges of heavy rain over the last week, insects and mold run rampant at times like this. It becomes a challenge to control these elements.
The washing machine is a little old certainly and it is a little rusty but it does work very well. I have added to the instructions for future guests that in the event of heavy rains there is a dryer for them to use in the utility room off the garage. Thanks for helping to create that solution.
Thank you for drawing my attention to these issues. I take a negative review very seriously. I have already taken action to address your concerns and that of the comfort for future guests.
Lovely cottage, perfect for 1-2 people.
Ed is a great host. Everything you expect is in the home to enjoy your stay. Boogie boards, beach towels, ice chest, cooking stuff, maps and guides to the island. The town with the home is lovely. Farmers market a must. Our second stay with Ed, last time in the big house on property, this time the cottage. We will be back.
I just love that you enjoyed the cottage, so happy you made the most of your stay. Makes it all worthwhile.
Sweet little place that was perfect for two.
We enjoyed our stay at Ed's cottage. It was a perfect base to explore the north end of the island from. The place was clean and cozy. It's situated right behind the main house but faces back and felt very private. It stormed hard on one of our days there which led to curling up with a cup of amazing Kona coffee and reading for half the day. Later on we drove down the coast and ended up watching whales breaching right off the shore.
The Kohala coast feels a bit like a lost paradise. Kapaau and Hawi are friendly and walkable. We bought laulau pork from a roadside vendor that was amazing.
If you want to experience Hawaii without zip lines, guided tours and poolside attendees this is definitely for you.
A tropical refuge with a lot of calm and light
Ed’s cottage can only be recommended. It is a lovely place and even more beautiful than you would expect. Mahalo!
Thank you Kai,
This makes me smile. I built the cottage with love and much attention to detail, when I can I use the home to sleep in myself.
I am happy you enjoyed it.
Wonderful quiet little getaway
We had a great time! Highly recommended.
Perfect... Good to have you both to stay at the lovely cottage.
4 minute walk to Yoga Studio in Kapaau village. Small delightful classes with various different teachers. : ) I enjoy yoga there myself twice a week.
