Located 350 feet above sea level on the ridge that runs down the middle of the island of Vieques, the panoramic view from Casa Cumbre extends from Culebra to the Northeast, west to include El Yunque, the Rainforest, the main island of Puerto Rico (the best sunset view on the island!) and south overlooking the Caribbean Sea and Vieques' beaches, to St. Croix in the southeast. The hilltop setting creates a perfect climate control system, with fresh breezes keeping the air comfortable.
The 500 sq. ft. covered terrace on the west end takes full advantage of the views in all directions while providing shelter from the midday sun. There is a pass-through window from the kitchen, so you can easily eat all of your meals outside. You will often see birds flying by, from one side of the island to the other, right at your level.
The private sun-drenched swimming pool, with views to Puerto Rico and Culebra, is on the north side of the house along with an outdoor shower.
The house has three bedrooms, two with king-sized beds and the other with two twins. There are ceiling fans in all of the bedrooms. The kitchen includes all amenities - dishwasher, disposal, blender, etc. There is a separate dining area for the rare occasion you might want to eat inside. The spacious living area has views to the north and south, so you can see both the Caribbean and the Atlantic.
The house manager will meet you at the airport, help with car rental and introduce you to the house. He has been living on the island for over 10 years and can provide a wealth of information.
The central location of the house provides easy access to shopping and is within a ten minute drive to Sun Bay and the former navy beaches (Garcia, Caracas, Chiva).
I had been searching for property on Vieques for a while before I found this perfect spot. I have spent most of my life on the east coast, New York and Connecticut, but have recently transplanted to Seattle. It's further to travel to Vieques, but the island is so special it is worth it.

Los Chivos is a great neighborhood, it is pretty much the center of the island, so it is easy to get just about anywhere.
The view at sunset is the best! Sitting on the verandah at any time of day is a joy, it is almost hard for my eyes to take in so much beauty in every direction! But the sunsets are amazing, to watch the colors change in the clouds and the lights come on over on Puerto Rico is a visual feast.
We love Vieques Island, and in our experience this is about the best house on the island. It has amazing, one of a kind views of both Puerto Rico to the north (gorgeous lights at night), and the Caribbean sea to the south, and sunsets to the west. You can see which side of the island to go to for the best swimming! It is convenient to beaches, stores, town, while still being quiet. It gets the easterly breezes for natural AC. David the house manager has lived on the island for years and can give plenty of tips for those new to the area.
What a great place. High on a hill with a 270 degree view. Great sunsets, nice breezes, no bugs, quiet and very roomy. We did beaches mornings and afternoons get back by 4PM, shower, get the cocktails going, then, absorb the view and grill our dinner on the deck and eat by candlelight on the veranda. Can't beat it.
