This is our great getaway property where we park our car and don't get in it again until we leave. Everything is right out the door. Ski Out to the shuttle that takes you for a 10 minute ride to the mountain, Ski back from the mountain to the house. Mountain bike trails, hiking trails, snowmobiling, restaurants, cross country ski trails with nordic center, lakes all around for swimming. A true mountain paradise with less crowds and traffic than Tahoe and a very family friendly community.
Our cabin is cozy with a wood stove, but also gas heat for convenience. Everything you need for your trip besides groceries and your sports equipment is here. We have big open windows that overlook the mountains and forest. A nice front deck with sun for lounging on winter or summer. Big windows for a nicely lit kitchen.
In winter you have to walk, ski or snowmobile to the cabin as Bear Valley roads are closed. But we are only a 8-10 minute walk from the town parking lot.
We have been enjoying this cabin for over ten years as we purchased it from a friend in 2007 when they moved back east. It is our dream come true to have this place and share it with you when we can't be here.
My Wife and I love this part of the Sierras and are avid skiers, mountain bikers, and love to sail on the lake.
Ryan Rich purchased this cabin in 2007
My Wife and I love this part of the Sierras and are avid skiers, mountain bikers, and love to sail on the lake. Plus our cabin is ski in ski out, and there is always powder up here. We have a bunch of friends that live up here year round and we enjoy doing all of these activities with them and their kids.
We are a close walk to town, ski in/ ski out, a 3 minute walk to Bear Lake in the summer, has a cozy wood stove.
We've stayed in Ryan's cabin two years in a row and love it! Its super cozy and has such a warm feeling to it. We love making a fire in the fireplace/stove and watching the snow through the big windows. The set up in Bear Valley is great - we bring our things to the cabin on sleds and park our car in the lot and then we walk/ski/ sled around.
We spend our time cross country skiing - the rental place there is super helpful and nice; once we've rented our skis we ski down from the cabin each day, walk across the road and ski on the cross country trails. This year my kids also skied around the neighborhood by the cabin, sledded on the road right outside and built a snow fort. We also drove down the road 10 minutes one day to ski on the highway (where its no longer plowed) down to Lake Alpine, which was lovely.
The kitchen in the cabin is remarkably well equipped for a small cabin - electric kettle, coffee maker, french press, immersion blender, lots of oven pans, nice cast iron pans, even a crock pot! No dishwasher, but we don't mind that at all for a small kitchen on vacation. Also, there's no cell coverage (for us anyway) anywhere in Bear Valley, but the cabin has great wifi so we had internet access and could use wifi calling.
Ryan is also very responsive and helpful by e-mail and phone for any questions that come up and great to work with.
Looking forward to coming back next year!
Our family (with two kids, 6 and 8 years old) had an amazing time there last weekend. The cabin was perfect -- warm and cozy, with sweet, personal touches throughout, and stocked with an assortment of kids books and games. We were surrounded by an incredible sea of white and woke up on our first morning to the magical sight of more snow falling. Our girls spent hours making snow people, digging snow caves, sledding down the road, making snow angels, and eating snow :-). Except for the occasional snow mobile passing, the quiet surrounding the cabin was undisturbed. The nearby forests and fields were perfect for snow-shoeing and exploring. And it was a quick 10-minute walk down to the Bear Valley Cross-Country Center. We loved not having to drive the entire time we were there!
Ryan, the owner, was wonderful -- friendly and extremely prompt in his email responses, and he made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay at the cabin truly wonderful. Thank you, Ryan! We couldn't have asked for a more perfect experience.
We have recently spent a long snowy weekend at this cabin and we had a very positive experience.
The cabin is not big, but very cozy and offered everything we needed. We were 4 adults and 4 kids. I think it would be too small for a group bigger than that.
The owner is very nice and responded to all phone calls or emails within 2 hours.
The surroundings are just beautiful with sledding hill right next to the cabin. Our kids actually preferred to stay close to the cabin even though we did take them to the sledding/ snow tubing park. We did not try downhill skiing this time but we are thinking of coming back this season for another fun weekend.
Wy wife and I spent 3 days and 2 nights here with our 2 kids (10 and 8 years old). The kids spent hours sledding down the hill in front, making snowmen, and building a snow fort. During winter the only way to get up to the cabins is by foot or snowmobile. Although the cabin is only about a 10 minute walk up the road from the Lodge/restaurants, we chose to rent a snowmobile. The helpful folks at the rental place gave us a good deal for 2 days (since things were slow) and even let us use a 2 person people trailer to tow the kids. It was perfect! We got to explore the entire community and see some amazing scenery. The cabin has sleds to pull your gear up too, but I'm glad we got a snowmobile and trailer for the kids - much more convenient if you have a lot of stuff and definitely better for entertainment/exploring. The kitchen is stocked with the basic things you'd need. There are board games we played at night. The rooms and beds are basic for any normal cabin. Wifi worked well. The wood burning stove kept the place warm and had plenty of firewood. Ryan was responsive to our inquiries and easy to communicate with. All this made our first visit to Bear Valley very enjoyable - we'll definitely be back.
We recently stayed at the wonderful cabin. From the Lodge it is up the road about a half mile. No driving in the winter only walking on foot or renting a snow mobile. Once at the cabin, it has everything you would need for a very relaxing stay. We had a great time and would recommend to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Ryan was very hekpful and a pleasure to work with. Looking forward to a future trip.
This was my first experience with Bear Valley and all I can say is that it was amazing. We had close to 10ft of fresh powder during the week making a beautiful playground. Since the roads are not plowed everything was white and pristine. The cabin is in a great location, reasonable walking distance to the lodge and easy ski home.
We have little kids so the stairs and loft area of the cabin made life a bit difficult for us but it provided much enjoyment for them! Also since a snowmobile is not included in with the cabin and we had so much snow and kid stuff, a mobile taxi was needed. Plus we wound up needing to rent one for a night since friends were arriving after hours from the taxi service. The snowmobiles were a blast but we didn't anticipate the extra cost.
The cabin itself was well stocked in the kitchen, with linens and with games/magazines. It was comfortable and fun. Ryan was easy to work with and everything went seamlessly. Overall I am enamored with Bear Valley and can't wait to experience it in the summer. We will definitely be returning!
