Exquisite retreat

  • 5 of 5

The name of the house is apropos, as it truly is a beautiful art lover's retreat. It was a special experience to be surrounded by such an eclectic and refined collection of contemporary art. Each room was unique and special. The common living areas and the backyard were great places to hang out and relax. Alex was a tremendous host. He accommodated our early arrival and was super friendly as he showed us around his house.

Beautiful and unique house

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I really enjoyed staying at this beautiful house. It is a big house with lots of room for a big group of people. The house was clean and the owner was very helpful with answering any questions I had prior to the arrival. Thank you very much.

Spider Web and Insect Lovers Dream

See link below for real pics of this disguisting place!

My family and I decided to book a property in Santa Barbara during the Thanksgiving weekend, and saw that this property was still available. It looked fairly clean and well taken care of from the pictures, but it wasnt the case when we got there. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a lady who gave us a quick tour of the property; walked us around the rooms, showed us some locations of items, and pointed out the wifi code. Before leaving, she gave up a piece of paper from 2006 that had coffee stains and told us to contact her with any questions. It wasnt until about an hour later that the rest of the family arrived and settled in. Ive listed the disguisting conditions of the house and even posted pictures below. Now keep in mind, the owner said that the place was "lightly buffed." lol.

1) The bbq was not cleaned at all, and in fact, the utensils still had stains.

-Owner responded that all we had to do was call and they would have sent someone to show me the "new utensils in the kitchen."

- Yes, I should have to call to find NEW AND CLEAN utensils? Does that even make sense? Shoudlnt everything already be clean upon my arrival? Isnt that what you charge the "Cleaning Fee" for? Or do you pocket that?

2) There were bugs all over the house, including the top of the shower, over the dining room table lights, as well as spider webs all over the house.

- Owner responded that all i had to do was call and they would have "gladly sent someone over to remove the daddy long leggs."

- If the place was really clean, would there really have been spider webs, daddy long legs and other insects all over the house? lol... the place was of course, "lightly buffed."

3) The heater barely works downstairs and the people sleeping downstairs froze.

4) Place indicates sleeping for 10, but only 4 beds. You do the math.

5) Living room couch and chairs have no support and cushions are practically destroyed.

6) Feel free to see the pictures attached and see how disguisting and unsanitry the place is and how its kept!

I tried to post pics, but HomeAway wouldnt let me! Trust me, compare my review against the other person's 1 Star review and you will see! You'd be disgusted!

Stay at your own risk!!

There are better places with more value to stay at!

Owner's Response: I'm tempted to address every point as i did in my response to vrbo and my bank, but will only challenge a few. Our property manager Liz welcomed this family, introducing them to the property not quickly, but normally. In fact they were pressed and anxious as they explained they had left their 6 month old baby in the car outside alone. She did her job correctly as always. A paper from 2006 is absurd. We haven't been renting that long. Our cleaning team, ex Four Season's employees spent hours meticulously working the entire house the day before the guests arrived, and the "buff up" was done by us a few hours before the arrival as is our habit to re-check the premises. The bbq was clean, but admittedly the grill was a bit rusty. There was and is a full set of brand new bbq tools in the kitchen, that they apparently missed. The heater works fine and always has. I am sorry to hear the people downstairs froze, and ecstatic that it was not to death. Which brings us to the sleeping capacity. There are four bedrooms, and one very large study with a pull out sofa bed and in addition a very comfortable double electric air mattress. As Mr. Kamjoo signed a contract (available to see)for 6 adults (no children mentioned) and we now understand three were there, which is fine, (I have 5 children and 8 grandchildren myself) i fail to see why the bed situation would be an issue. Unless perhaps many more Kamjoos visited that we didn't know about? Now to the bugs. Santa Barbara is well know for it's wonderful nature. With half an acre of lovely private garden, it does not surprise us that a Daddy Long Legs could have found it's way in. I am just positive that Mr. Kamjoo has seen and dealt with many forms of animal life in his past, and if he was upset, that is exactly what Mrs. Townley is there to handle. Why he did not contact her immediately? i do not know. We have a team of people ready to tackle almost any problem. As for other bugs, dubious, could they have arrived with the guests? I do know that when i re-entered my house late Sunday night, sorry to say it was absolutely filthy. I believe the used toilet paper in the bathtub says it all.Lastly, after spending 3 days in our house Mr.Kamjoo has initiated a chargeback for his rental payment. Of course we are contesting that action. Rather reminds us of that disparate restaurant diner who carries a bug in his pocket for the soup hoping for the free meal.So it goes. Hundreds of guests have loved our home. Please see reviews
