Perfect for family and friends, restored Mas, tailored to allow privacy within a larger group.

This delightful, spacious, beautiful home has been rebuilt with old stone in the traditional Provencal style of the former farmhouse (mas) and retains many period features. Set in the peace of the countryside, yet within easy reach of the town of Apt and picturesque Bonnieux, it is the perfect place to combine sightseeing with relaxing in an idyllic setting. The house and gardens overlook its own vineyards and the stunning sunsets from the terrace provide a wonderful setting for the evening aperitif.

When you arrive at Domaine de la Foux you will be following in the footsteps of the ancient Romans who used the crystal clear spring from which the estate gets its name. You will find it in the courtyard, flowing into a stone basin, and it provides a very personal link with the rich history to be discovered in the region.

The property comprises 3 self-contained areas. Two are in the main house’s upper and lower floors, and these communicate via an indoor staircase. The third area is a separate cottage across the courtyard. Whilst the upper floor is part of the main house, the lower floor and cottage have separate entrances, simple catering facilities and bathrooms thereby providing a choice of accommodation options for guests. None of these areas is rented separately and so you will enjoy complete privacy no matter how large or small your group is.

Entering from the hallway of the main house, you are greeted by a large bright sitting room with open fireplace. French doors lead out on to a sun terrace where you are can gaze across the estate with its vineyards and cherry orchard to the woods beyond .The sitting room has a modern TV with English-language subscription channels via satellite, and a DVD player.

Off to the side is a study with telephone, dedicated fax line, wireless broadband. The study also has direct access to the sun terrace.

Through from the charming dining room is the spacious open chef's kitchen which is equipped with all you need to create gourmet meals from produce picked up at local markets. Just outside the kitchen is the perfect al fresco dining area, with a lovely wrought iron table and chairs, where you can dine below a canopy of vines. The BBQ area is conveniently located nearby.

The main staircase leads you to three bedrooms on the top floor, each with en-suite bathroom. The large and bright master bedroom with super king bed enjoys views over the vineyards, cherry trees, pond and distant hills. There are also two double bedrooms, one with sleigh bed and the other features beautiful exposed beams - yet again the views are outstanding.

On the lower ground-floor level is a self-contained unit which has its own garden entrance, access to the pool and own outdoor dining area. There is a comfortable double bedroom plus a sitting room with kitchenette. There is also a second bedroom with twin beds and a shower room and bathroom. This lower ground-floor area also communicates with the main ground and upper floors via an internal stairway, making it an integral part of the main house. Cots are available if required.

Domaine de la Foux also offers a separate cottage with double bedroom, sitting area and kitchenette. The cottage also has a shaded patio which is a perfect place to relax with a good book.

You will be welcomed to the property by the farm manager who will be readily available throughout your stay should you need any help or advice. The housekeeping is well taken care of by our two femmes de menage, leaving you free to enjoy all that this lovely area has to offer.

Domaine de la Foux is nestled into the hilltop valley of Buoux near the villages of Bonnieux, Lourmarin and LaCoste.

Its extensive grounds provide ample opportunity to relax on a chaise lounge in the beautifully maintained gardens or take a dip in the 12 meter by 6 meter heated salt-water swimming pool.

The pool was constructed with both adults and children in mind as it has a shallow section with a floating line of buoys indicating where the deeper area starts.

As a working vineyard, the property produces its own delicious wines (which are available to enjoy at the property.) The wine list includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah and Chardonnay. The property also has extensive lavender fields and a cherry orchard.

The lavender is in bloom in late June and July and is harvested for its essence in late July. The cherry trees flower in March/April, and produce an abundance of fruit for your picking pleasure in May/June.

Plenty of room for all guests at Mas Michel

Mas Michel is ideal for great family holidays as it really does what it says and allows everyone to have fun together or spend time relaxing on their own.

As the older generation, my husband and I chose the cottage where we could enjoy a quiet cup of tea or a glass of the excellent local wine after a busy day exploring the pleasures of Provence. However, the Mas with its swimming pool, vineyards and extensive grounds can easily tempt you to venture no further than the shops for delicious local produce.

Do go to Mas Michel - it will not disappoint.

Sunlit luxury by the pool - Provencial Mas near to Bonnieux

We stayed at Domaine de la Foux late April / beginning of May 2011 and will definitely be returning. The Mas is beautiful and we particularly enjoyed the spacious nature of the main house and separate cottage. It was also a real pleasure having the French maid arrive every morning - which was a luxury we did not expect.

The splendid village of Bonnieux is very near and has a variety of excellent restaurants, the most famous of which is the "Bastide de Capelongue" (chef Edouard Loubet).

The village markets in Apt and Lourmarin were also excellent. Not only were we able to buy a fine selection of cheese, olives, bread and pates, but the markets also had a variety of French linen and clothes that I was able to spend my euros on.

We hope to return to the Mas this year with our good friends and their young daughter for another chance to live the Provencal dream. I would recommend the Mas to all family groups and also to those looking for some sunlit luxury by the pool.
