This is a unique two acre end of country lane home including a hobby vineyard and family fruit orchard. Guests are always impressed with its grandeur and its comfort and welcoming nature. This is an ideal spot for a quiet and restful retreat from it all or exploring the area with friends and family. We offer uncompromising amenities.
The views are amazing and the pool is solar heated.
The house is two levels and the bathroom is downstairs adjacent to the master bedroom.
We are close to many recreational areas including the little known Armstrong Woods, a state park providing a beautiful place for gentle walks or rigorous hikes while gazing up at 1200 year old redwood trees. Remarkable!
The 1000 sq ft home was designed with beauty and function in mind. The furnishings and bedding are well maintained and comfortable with a casual yet sophisticated flair.
There is a solar heated pool (from late March through October/November depending on the weather for your enjoyment.

Nick is available to drive you for wine tasting etc. for a very nominal fee.
My husband and I raised our two children on this idyllic property and we are semi-retired and enjoy renting out the The Carriage House. You will love the view and solitude as well as the surrounding scenery and the local restaurants and 'things to do'.
Diane Rooney and Nick Gurney purchased this estate in 1999
Very private with magnificent views. The property is well laid out allowing private walks for talks and enjoying seasonal vegetables and fruits.
We are close to downtown, music spots including Hop Monk Tavern and Aubergine, two great music and food venues. Local restaurants do not disappoint. We have enjoyed Corks, French Garden, KL Bistro and Sushi Hannah, Gypsy Cafe, East West Cafe and El Cornell. We now have :The Barlow' which includes breweries, wineries, restaurants and some great shopping.
Something for everyone.
The carriage house is tucked away in a beautiful location overlooking the Napa Valley. There is a substantial amount space in the carriage house as there are two bedrooms and a great "space ship" zone where our 2 boys loved to sleep (even though they could have had a bedroom). The house is stacked with everything you could need for cooking and there is a BBQ onsite to use. The pool was the perfect temperature and the pool surroundings were simply stunning. Nick was an incredibly kind and friendly host. He gave us a tour of the house and all the amenities and was available for anything we needed while at the house. He even left us some homemade plum jam using the fruits from trees on the property. Altogether, it was a great escape from the city to be at the carriage house and we will be back!
Our family truly enjoyed our experience at the Carriage House! First of all, communicating with Diane before our arrival was a breeze. We arrived late in the evening and found some lovely things for us…wine, cheese, bread, eggs and milk. Very thoughtful! I especially loved the lemons she left for us from her own lemon trees. Nick and Diane were very pleasant to chat with and were eager to make sure we were having a good stay. The space was perfect for our family of five. Having only one bathroom was not a problem. It was so much nicer than being in a hotel. We could make our own meals, play cards, put together a puzzle or hang out by the pool. The view from the pool was beautiful! The kids enjoyed the hot tub as well. The beds were all very comfortable! Being just outside Sebastopol was nice. Sebastopol has some good restaurants and a Starbucks! It's close to the ocean, lots of wineries and Armstrong Redwoods. I would certainly recommend spending your time at the Carriage House
Nick and Diane were lovely hosts and maintain a great home away from home for travelers! The kitchen was well stocked and ready to cook meals at night, while the location was super convenient to town and wineries, etc. If you're getting there late at night, it can be confusing on the dark roads back there, so just touch base with them ahead of time for specific driving instructions. All in all, a memorable trip!
What a wonderful home. Beautiful, tranquil, clean and lovely. Everything we needed and then some. Diane and Nick are great hosts...really lovely people. We desperately needed relaxation and we got it...every last detail from the pool to the jacuzzi to the fountain and grounds. We got so close to nature. We enjoyed our own private patio every morning. The kids loved the loft and went to sleep enjoying the stars every night. Our teenager had her own private room and so did we! We can't say enough wonderful things about this property and its owners (even though part of me doesn't want anyone to know so we can keep it to ourselves!). This house is also a perfect location. Close to the ocean, SF, wine country, redwoods, great restaurants, art communities...the full CA experience. It was hard to leave...
We stayed at Nick and Diane's lovely guest house for two weeks and were very sad to leave. It was far and away the most idyllic home and grounds we've ever rented and we've stayed in houses all over the country. The pictures represent the home and property exactly.
Nick was readily available without being obstrusive. He and Diane are lovely people and made us feel comfortable right away. We were welcome to pick the abundance of gorgeous fruits growing on the trees all over the property and enjoyed baking in a kitchen equipped for all of our needs.
Our toddler had toys to enjoy in the home and there was a safety gate available for the stairs. If you have a child and are concerned about safety, we simply removed the ladder to loft before she noticed and she never wanted to play up there. Best of all there was a fairy tale garden to enjoy with swings and hills and plenty for imaginative minds to explore. Her favorite activity (other than splashing in the pool) was picking blackberries and watching for the resident red fox. Owls at night provided more magical entertainment.
The pool was a truly stunning setting: hummingbirds and views of the mountains made afternoon swims a real treat. We had a few memorable lunches there.
The reviewer who mentioned the comfortable sofa (and beds) was correct: it was enough space for us all to spread out and when more family joined us for the second week; we never felt crowded. I was concerned the one bath would be an issue but it was seperate enough from the master bedroom and the tub made bath time easy with my daughter. I enjoyed waking early and opening the sliding door to the porch off the bedroom. Silence and peace was everywhere.
We stayed during some hot days but with windows open and fans on we never employed the window A/C. The downstairs master bedroom always remained cool. Nights and mornings are quite cool, even in summer.
If you have any doubts about staying in Sebastapol, please try it out. We were pleasantly surprised by the abundance of vegetarian, farm-to-table, eclectic restaurants (Himalayan Curry house, Slice of Life, Peter Lowell) and the lovely and unique Barlow area where we enjoyed the weekly farmer's market and many a juice and coffee. It was a short drive to the gorgeous coast as well as redwoods, rivers, farms and wineries. At the end of the day returning to our charming home was a pleasure.
Thanks for the wonderful memories, Nick and Diane. Zoey says hi!
The Carriage House was the perfect spot to relax for a month!! It affords a place to call home, with absolutely everything you would want, plus the opportunity to venture out, explore the extraordinary & varied activities & sites (hiking @Armstrong Woods, whale watching & seafood @ Bodega Bay, shopping, great resturants, wine tasting & we had the benefit of visiting family & friend in the area. All of this is wrapped up in the gracious hospitality of the owners who could not have been more helpful or accomodating. We would stay here again & hope to in the future. It is quiet with spectacular views of morning sunrises.
Large number of award winning wineries.
