About Ron Gomes

Positive, mellow, fun loving couple enjoying life, the beach, mountains, hikes, sports, the arts, & theater. See me 'golfing' (25 handicap for 9 holes, haha) at Royal Hawaiian Golf course-lush like Jurassic Park. We love to travel too, but everywhere we go, people tell us they want to come to Hawaii for a vacation. :-)

Ron Gomes purchased this house in 1979

Why Ron Gomes chose Kailua

This is our great family home.

We are a quiet, mellow couple who'd like to share our home with like visitors who would wish to enjoy the best place to be, Kailua. To quote 1 of our guests, 'This is the closest place to heaven without dying'.

What makes this house unique

This is great convenient location, a short 6min. walk, 3 blocks-walking distance to the beach. 2 1/2 blocks to Island Snow shaved ice..or another name for snow cones.

Also, walking distance, 4 blocks to shopping, restaurants, library, Kailua District Park with public tennis, basketball courts and Olympic size pool.

We're 2 blocks from Kailua Middle School Thursday morning, 9-10am Farmers market and Longs/CVS store parking lot for the Thurs. 5-7pm Farmers Market with great flowers, produce, great local products and many choices of delicious dinners from many food vendors. And, music!

It's a lot of fun.

Amazing Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Ron's Hibiscus Suite during our 3-day visit to Oahu. We have done a few other VRBO's in Kailua but can say with confidence that this was our favorite. The accommodations were spacier than we had thought, the place was super clean and you cannot beat the location (so close to Lanikai, where we spent most of our time). We had our two young children and they loved it as well- they had their own room with twin beds and air conditioning so sleep wasn't a problem. Ron is really friendly and helpful and we couldn't ask for more in a VRBO. We will definitely stay here on future visits to the island.

Like home away from home, great location

  • 5 of 5

This suite was spacious and comfortable. It has everything we needed. It was nice having a full kitchen altho we didn't cook too often. We bbq'd once and sat on the small outside lanai area, altho we also could have sat under the trees.

There were 3 of us, so I had the comfortable queen bed in 1 bedroom, 1 had the full futon couch/bed in the other bedroom and 1 had the other full futon couch/bed in the living room. There were 2 TV's, 1 in the living room and 1 in the 2nd bedroom when we wanted to watch different shows. There were some movies and games/cards.

It was very clean and well maintained--the owner asked for any thing that needed attention so they could do it right away, but everything worked well. The owner works so wasn't home during the day, but we asked for some tips and ideas which they were very helpful and friendly with assisting us. They even gave us some pineapple they bought at the Thursday morning (9-10am) farmer's market, 2 blocks from the house....we went too and bought some local fruit and vegetables.

We walked to the famous beach, only a nice leisurely 5 min. walk and ate some shaved ice, at Island Snow on the way back home. We ate at Buzz's steak house where Pres. Clinton ate--only a block away from the beach. They have a great salad bar w/ bread for only about $10!

We played some tennis at the courts, 3 blocks away and 1 person swam laps in the public olympic pool near the courts.

We bought some souvenirs at Alii Stained Glass by Zippy's fast food restaurant (24 hrs). We loved Assaggio's (Italian)and Formaggio's wine restaurant (pricier)-but we were celebrating, and the food was superb!.

We rented kayak near Island Snow, on the way to the beach and had soo much fun. This was a great place for convenience.

Owner's Response: Kay and family were wonderful and considerate guests. We're always so happy when someone has a great time and enjoys their vacation in this separate unit in our home near the beach. Mahalo (thanks) and aloha!

comfortable and good location.

  • 4 of 5

It was nice to be able to get a place on such short notice, especially with that location and at a reasonable price. The units clean and comfortable, only had to use A/C a couple of times. I was able to walk to the beach and Kalapawai Store as well as Kailua town, very convenient. Except for a little traffic noise it was nice and quiet.

Great price, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

I'll start with the only minor problem and that there are bugs. Keep in mind this is Hawaii and every home has bugs, but they weren't out of control or anything, so they still get 5 stars.

Cozy two bedroom suite with a stand up shower, decent wifi, and a fully furnished kitchen. Bike to ride if you want and little things like beach toys etc for the kids that you can borrow too. The bed linens looked old, but they were clean and they smelled great, just may be a nice upgrade for the ambiance of the place in the future. The window AC units were great for sleeping at night, but for the most part you don't need them on during the day until maybe mid afternoon as long as you have the fans running when you're there.

There aren't many locations like this you can get for this price and the owners are great social people. Ready to help if necessary and one of them is home at most times. We're avid beach goers so this place is the best if that's your style. We weren't intending on spending s lot of time in any place we stayed, but the time we did spend in the suite was comfortable. It's within walking distance of Kailua beach and even Lani Kai, which is a little farther, however those are three long blocks to Kaila beach, but still ten minutes or so. 15-30 minutes to Waikiki depending on traffic if you have any desire to go there and 10-20min to Bellows, Waimanalo, Kaiona, or Makapu'u beaches depending on which one you want to go too. If west side beaches are your thing you also have decent access there in the mornings and coming back in the afternoons, 30-40min, since you're going opposite direction of most commuters. This matters a lot because you can spend a lot of your vacation in traffic if you don't plan well. My family lives in Ewa on the west side and it was 25min going there in the morning or coming back in the evenings.

The property is minutes away from downtown Kailua and all the great restaurants and decent shopping including Whole Foods. If you're military, the MCBH exchange and commissary are ten minutes or less away in Kaneohe, maybe a little longer in traffic. They have seemingly strict house rules, but most homes do in Hawaii. Nothing ridiculous or unreasonable about their rules though like don't be noisy after 8pm and no sand in the unit.

All in all this is a great property and we will definitely bring the whole family back.

Great stay in Kailua

  • 5 of 5

We spent the first three days of our vacation in this cute and comfy cottage. Pictures are very accurate and location is about a ten minute walk to the beach. It is very close to all the conveniences like Target, but far enough away that there isn't a lot of traffic. We didn't see the owners very often during our stay but when we needed an extra beach towel, they responded within 5 minutes! There was plenty of room for us (2 adults and 3 teens). Towels, beach towels, dishes, shampoo, soap and conditioner were all provided. A few sand toys and a mini cooler that was great to keep waters cold on our excursions were also available. We spent the last three days in Waikiki and all five of us wish we had spent the whole trip in Kailua. Overall, a very positive experience. Thanks for your hospitality!
