Positive, mellow, fun loving couple enjoying life, the beach, mountains, hikes, sports, the arts, & theater. See me 'golfing' (25 handicap for 9 holes, haha) at Royal Hawaiian Golf course-lush like Jurassic Park. We love to travel too, but everywhere we go, people tell us they want to come to Hawaii for a vacation. :-)
Ron Gomes purchased this house in 1979

This suite was spacious and comfortable. It has everything we needed. It was nice having a full kitchen altho we didn't cook too often. We bbq'd once and sat on the small outside lanai area, altho we also could have sat under the trees.
There were 3 of us, so I had the comfortable queen bed in 1 bedroom, 1 had the full futon couch/bed in the other bedroom and 1 had the other full futon couch/bed in the living room. There were 2 TV's, 1 in the living room and 1 in the 2nd bedroom when we wanted to watch different shows. There were some movies and games/cards.
It was very clean and well maintained--the owner asked for any thing that needed attention so they could do it right away, but everything worked well. The owner works so wasn't home during the day, but we asked for some tips and ideas which they were very helpful and friendly with assisting us. They even gave us some pineapple they bought at the Thursday morning (9-10am) farmer's market, 2 blocks from the house....we went too and bought some local fruit and vegetables.
We walked to the famous beach, only a nice leisurely 5 min. walk and ate some shaved ice, at Island Snow on the way back home. We ate at Buzz's steak house where Pres. Clinton ate--only a block away from the beach. They have a great salad bar w/ bread for only about $10!
We played some tennis at the courts, 3 blocks away and 1 person swam laps in the public olympic pool near the courts.
We bought some souvenirs at Alii Stained Glass by Zippy's fast food restaurant (24 hrs). We loved Assaggio's (Italian)and Formaggio's wine restaurant (pricier)-but we were celebrating, and the food was superb!.
We rented kayak near Island Snow, on the way to the beach and had soo much fun. This was a great place for convenience.
Great vacation rental. Ron and wife very cordial and pleasant to talk to. Rental close to beach. Rental was just like described in rental info. My wife and I will definitely stay here again on next trip to Hawaii.
To start with the positives:
- the location of the property is very convenient.
- Easy walk to the beach and to the Town center.
- Well equipped with beach towels and toys that our 2 year old loved.
On the negatives side
- The home itself was not as clean as other vrbo homes we have stayed in the past.
- We did not see the owners much during the stay other than during checkout and checkin. One time we saw them though was when we were asked to close the room windows for the AC, when we had the AC in Fan-only mode. I guess this confusion was partly due to the noise ac unit made even in fan only mode. We did not mind that. What annoyed us a bit was - We were also asked to turn off the inside lights when we step out for dinner at night. Really? If the goal is to save electricity, then why there are no LED lights in the unit?
My mother, sister, brother and I recently took a family trip to Hawaii and, while in Oahu, wanted to be close to the beach but not in Honolulu proper. This condo was ideal! There was plenty of space for four adults and we never felt crowded. The two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with two twins) were very comfy; the kitchen was well stocked with all the pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. needed (and lots of ice trays in the freezer which was great); and the bathroom was spacious and very clean (note that it does have only a shower and not a bathtub, which was just fine for us). And the owner was great. We received very clear instructions letting us know how to find the key, where to park (there's one off-street parking spot dedicated to the condo), etc. before arriving and then during our stay the fire alarm started to beep periodically due to a low battery. I sent an email and within five minutes Ron had come over and fixed it right it up.
Kailua Beach is a short walk down the street and along the way you can stop off at Island Snow Hawaii for fabulous shave ice or the adorable Kalapawai Market for just about anything you need. The beach itself is beautiful and was one of our favorite beaches of the entire trip. And just a few minutes in the other direction from the condo is a big plaza with a Target, Whole Foods, Safeway, etc. and a ton of restaurants including a Teddy's Bigger Burgers which, yum.
This is a great place and we all agree we'd stay here again in a heartbeat. My sister and I both travel frequently and have stayed in a wide variety of hotels/motels, VRBO/Airbnb places, etc. in both the US and Europe and this was right up there at the top. Highly recommended.
I personally didn't get to see or talk to the owners much while we were there, but the house was perfect for what we needed! We were there getting married on Kalama Beach, which was just a short walk from the house. The town of Kailua had grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, etc and even a Target store, all within a 2 minute drive of the house. The house reminded me of a cottage, but it was perfect for our family of 4. There was even enough space for someone to come and do my hair and makeup the morning of the wedding. The kitchen was stocked with general necessities, and the bbq outside was a nice feature. We were able to go to FoodLand to purchase the makings to prepare a portion of our meals at the house, instead of having to eat out for every meal for the week. There were shampoos, conditioners, body wash and other toiletries available for use, as well as plenty of towels, wash cloths, and linens. There was even a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board available to use, which was helpful! If we ever make it back to Oahu again, I will definitely try to stay at this location again. My only complaint was that when we arrived there, some glass had been broken in the kitchen, and only partially cleaned up. We kept finding little shards of glass with our feet (due to the no shoes in the house rule) and it wasn't until a couple of days after we arrived that we found the broom and dust pan to finish cleaning up the glass ourselves. All in all, the trip was amazing, the house is perfect, and has the most ideal location on the island, in my opinion. Thank you again, Sue and Ron, for allowing us to stay in your home, and for allowing us to mail packages to your home prior to our arrival and for holding them for us until we arrived. I highly recommend this house to anyone coming to the island, especially if you are traveling with children.
This place was great for my boyfriend and my parents, it was clean, quiet and never heard any of the neighbors. We walked to the beach and a few local places there. Never had trouble with parking or the area is safe to walk at night too!
