Why John chose El Zonte
The ocean front community of El Zonte is located 30 minutes west of El Salvador's Comalapa International Airport (SAL), convenient to shopping in the Port Town La Liberted, and this part of the coast line is scattered with local restaurants and activities. Nestled between mountains on three sides and the Pacific Ocean in front, it remains a secluded getaway for beach goers as well as a hot spot for local and international surf communities. Casa Tia Tita sits in the center of this active seclusion and is designed to offer the best El Salvador has to offer with all the comforts of home.
What makes this House unique
While staying at Casa Tia Tita we will be providing daily housekeeping as well as a cook to prepare and serve your meals. The kitchen is yours and available for your use at any time but we felt that you would have better things to do. I've found that a swim in the ocean, a dip in the pool and a good lunch will put me in the perfect mood for a siesta in the hammock. There are plenty of them hanging around. A walk on the beach will offer great food, entertainment, and if you're younger than I am, surfing. Lessons, and board rentals are available at multiple locations so there's no need to bring your boards with you.
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
2 Star property - 5 star hosts
My first reaction After staying at the house is that without Mario and Morena. This place would be closer to 2-3 stars.
We had a great time. It’s a nice place, but the only thing exceptional about it was Mario & Morena. Wonderful people with a wonderful family. Extremely helpful whenever you need anything.
The pictures led me to expect more. The indoor area (bedrooms and kitchen) were very basic. The outdoor living space is beatiful but what the pictures show as a nice sitting area is so uncomfortable. You can’t enjoy it. We spent the majority of time in plastic chairs around the pool. Which is extremely small, and what I was looking forward to the most was the gazebo by the beach. There’s nothing up there but more plastic chairs. We didn’t spend any time there at all. I was dumbfounded that what should have been the best place to relax was useless.
My last issue with the place is the casita. I have stayed in $5 Hostels across Central America that had more comfortable beds then that. The thing is rock hard, so if your picking rooms. Go with one of the others.
I have family in El Salvador, and have spent a year plus of time in the country, so i know what reasonable expectations should be. It’s not Cabo or Belize, but the house/property fell well below what the great country of El Salvador has to offer.
After all that. If you need a place to stay for a couple days (no longer), and as long as Mario & Morena are there. This is a good place. If they weren’t there to make your stay. This place would be a below average structure in a nice area. - 4 walls, a roof, and a beach. Our whole family was glad they were there.
From my experience in the Tunco-Sunzal-Zonte area of Libertad. There are properties that would absolutely make for a more enjoyable trip. In this price range.
You would just miss out on the opportunity to meet the wonderful hosts and people that Mario and Morena are.
As I wrap up I can’t help but be puzzled by all of the 5 star ratings. I can’t help but think that the as guests rated the place they were thinking heavily of Mario and Morena. Because even though I know the place is a 2-3 star place. Mario and Morena are 5 star hosts, and I would feel terrible giving them anything less.
Reminder 2 Star House / 5 Star Hosts
Gracias Mario and Morena.
And thanks John for letting us stay, but seriously do something with the Gazebo. It would be a game changer.
Wow! We loved casa tia tita so much. We were a great of 6 surfers from Florida down to celebrate one of our friends 40th birthdays. Mario and Morena made us feel right at home and so comfortable. The meal plan was great and highly recommended. We would explore the region everyday and when we got home we would come straight into dinner. The palapa that looked out over the waves was where we’d spend most of our time as it was such a great space. If you’re debating between houses like we were don’t anymore. Just book this one!
Great communication throughout from the owner. Mario and Morena are incredible hosts. Mario took us to the cascadas and acted as our guide, showing us the best places to jump (a must do). Right on the beach, great surfing! Will 10/10 come back.
Our days at Casa Tia Tita
My family had a wonderful time at Casa Tia Tita! The house is very well kept & clean, inside & out. Mario & Morena were very attentive to our needs & always had a smile! We felt at home right away. The beach is beautiful, it was mostly ourselves at that stretch of beach, very few locals showed up even on the weekend. It is a gorgeous beach with a nice tide pool & lovely sunsets! We spent lots of time im the water! But I also loved watching the sunsets from the 2nd floor of the gazebo!
We took morning walks & went to breakfast at Palo Verde Hotel which was delicious & a beautiful place to watch the surfers from. We had the cook make seafood for us one day with fish & shrimp that we had purchased at the pier, she made a delicious meal! A couple of times Marina ordered food for us from a local restaurant that delivered to the house (there's a few menus in the kitchen), we ordered seafood & pizza. Great food as well. We took a drive & dined at Beto's one day, the food & views were amazing!
All in all, we had an unforgettable time. El Zonte is a beautiful beach! I had not been in El Salvador for 25 years & we felt comfortable & did not see any signs of danger or ever felt threatened at the beach or in the city. We have been home for 11 days already & I still miss being there! Thank you John, Marina & Mario!
Great Vacation Getaway!
Casa Tia Tita was a home run... Went for a family surf trip and had a fantastic time.. loved the open plan and room to roam here.. kids loved the pool and that they could walk right out to the beach. The staff took great care of our every need and cooked up some really great meals during our stay.. can't wait to get back!
Beachfront Treasure in Little Known El Zonte
My family and I spent 8 days here over Christmas and we couldn't have asked for anything more. First off the live in host family (Mario and Marina) the stay relaxing by cooking the most delicious meals we have ever had while on vacation and touring us around for supplies and to attractions. They don't speak much English and we speak even less Spanish, but through hand signals and a translation App communication was simple. Mario and his family are very special people.
Now to the property. Tia Tita is everything as advertised and more. It is situated right on the beach where 80 degree water awaits to go tackle the waves. We swan several times everyday we were there. The beach was never crowed and a couple of days we had it pretty much to ourselves. The pool is small, but very refreshing after some suntanning. The temperature was between 93 and 96 everyday with no rainfall. The property is well maintained everyday and the layout is perfect. There is a two tiered gazebo that overlooks the ocean that we often sat on the upper deck for hours. The sunsets and sunrises are the most amazing we have ever witnessed. If you are looking for rest and relaxation mixed in with seeing some of the country this is the place. Not being at a resort and still not having to worry about preparing your meals makes this place special. We always felt safe off the property and everyone had an "Ola" and a smile to offer. Finally, dealing with Gordon was easy and smooth even if he gets the arrival date wrong lol. Sun, fun and relaxation is what Casa Tia Tita is all about. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
