About The Owner

Sarah Luck Pearson and Bob Douglas have lived on beautiful Madeline Island for 7 years where she wrote and he built custom homes. Bob's parents, Lynn and Ginny, also owners, live South of the Twin Cities but love to make the trip North to spend time with family, fish, play cards, and boat. 'Northshore' is an extension of family and of their love of the magical island of Madeline.

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Madeline Island

Madeline Island is the jewel of Lake Superior and the only place in the Midwest that has humidity-free summers. It's the Caribbean of the Northwoods! It also has one of the warmest communities we have ever experienced. Come one year, make friends, and you will be back for years to come. We also are enchanted with the nearby Big Bay Town Park that has a long white sand beach and lagoon... one of the most stunning places we've ever seen!

What makes this house unique

Wake up and can only see the woods, hear the wind. Have coffee in fresh new space decorated by young designer. Ride bikes to Big Bay, swim under bridge in lagoon out into the waves. At home, wash the lake off in outdoor shower, nap in hammock, have a drink at the Tiki Bar, grill, then around the firepit watch the sparks join the stars above. Fall into goose-down bedding and dream that your vacation never ends...

Great Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was fantastic! It looks just like the pictures online. Made our vacation to Madeline Island even better! The only thing I would recommend is bringing fans because there is no air conditioning.

Overall nice.

  • 4 of 5

Secluded location with plenty of space in the house for the nine of us. My only complaint is that the screens are badly in need of repair. With no air conditioning it was necessary to keep doors and windows open. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the house when we arrived. I made temporary repairs with a roll of scotch tape found in the house. Things were better from then on and we enjoyed our stay and used it as a jumping off point for the Apostle Islands.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this house. Loved the setting in the woods. We enjoyed bonfires in the evenings, it was a 2 minute drive to our favorite beach, we hiked a bit on the trail and the house had room for everyone. And the house had everything we needed.

Lovely, comfortable, and convenient

  • 5 of 5

The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed, the kitchen and sitting areas were also both functional and cute. The location was quiet yet convenient to LaPointe and Big Bay.

Relaxing get-away

  • 5 of 5

We had three generations at the property - 10 total - and we never felt we in each others way. Plenty of room to spread out! The kitchen had everything we needed for meal prep and the outdoor grill and fire pit were used as well. Very quiet but the drive to the parks and town is fairly short. We enjoyed our time at Madeline Island.

OK for short getaway

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was OK for a short getaway with the family but not having lake access and being in the bug-infested woods made it less enjoyable than we'd hoped. The cabin was large enough for 8 of us with a large dining room table, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The outdoor space was good but we couldn't use it too much because the screens had holes for the bugs to get in so we spent our days at the parks and the evenings indoors. Overall, my family enjoyed our trip but were not overly impressed with the cabin.

Owner's Response: Well, the Northwoods have bugs. And it's double the price for this many to stay on the lake. Will repair the screens right away though:)
