Located ten minutes from Big Bay Town Park (the jewel of Lake Superior) and fifteen minutes from the quaint village of La Pointe, you will find hip 'Northshore' with clean modern lines and antique accents which create a soothing Northwood's escape. A Tiki Bar, screened-in porch, Smart TV, a nice sized lawn surrounding the home, and a firepit and hammock mandate f-u-n, while four bedrooms with feather down blankets promise some deep z-z-z-z's. Serene, modern, with a brand new well-appointed interior, this retreat in the woods offers some serious get-away in the spirit of Madeline Island. This is the ultimate Midwestern Island getaway for a budget-minded family (sleeps 8-10, but the rate of $250 is for 8 Max, $30 each additional person) or for couples that appreciate a more current aesthetic. We are also dog-friendly! ($30 pet fee). Families with little ones and the elderly especially appreciate that it is all one level and very child-safe. And the cabin has super high speed internet!
Wake up and you can only see the woods, hear the wind. Have coffee in fresh new space decorated by young designer. Ride bikes to Big Bay, swim under bridge in lagoon out into the waves. At home, wash the lake off, have a drink at the Tiki Bar, grill, then circle the firepit and watch the sparks join the stars above. Fall into goose-down bedding and dream that your vacation never ends...

Sarah Luck Pearson and Bob Douglas have lived on beautiful Madeline Island for 7 years where she wrote and he built custom homes. Bob's parents, Lynn and Ginny, also owners, live South of the Twin Cities but love to make the trip North to spend time with family, fish, play cards, and boat. 'Northshore' is an extension of family and of their love of the magical island of Madeline.
The Owner purchased this house in 2007
Madeline Island is the jewel of Lake Superior and the only place in the Midwest that has humidity-free summers. It's the Caribbean of the Northwoods! It also has one of the warmest communities we have ever experienced. Come one year, make friends, and you will be back for years to come. We also are enchanted with the nearby Big Bay Town Park that has a long white sand beach and lagoon... one of the most stunning places we've ever seen!

Overall experience was fine. House was clean and internet worked fine. We are ok with late checkout fee and extra cleaning fee. But we are surprised with $15 charge for garbage. We packed all recycle and garbage seperatly. But still we were charged $15 extra. And AC never worked in there. At checkout we asked the lady who was there and she told me that AC doesn't work. It's summer and it was 80 degrees outside. I would expect refund for this and we are not ok with the garbage fee since we took more time to clean all recycle and garbage ( That made us to checkout late)
The house was fine, 4 bedrooms were nice to have for our group, it is a ways from town but worked for our purpose. The state park and town park is nearby. We had a wedding at the town park so it worked well for our stay. Not walking distance from town but we had cars, no big deal.
Six retired folks stayed there the third week of August. The place was clean and the photos on the web site were accurate. The open floor plan made it easy to visit. We were very comfortable and would recommend it to our friends and family.
If we head that way again, we would stay there!
This home was perfect for our group of two families with teenage kids. Very cute house with a lot of charm. The location is very close to Big Bay Town Park. It was convenient to go out for the morning to the town park or state park and return for lunch before heading back out for more adventures in the afternoon. The kitchen was well supplied with the necessities for cooking for our group. If you plan to grill, bring your own charcoal. Would definitely stay here again.
This cabin in the woods was the ideal location for a 6-woman getaway weekend. We thought the beds were comfortable and the unit was clean, sunny and bright. We used the living room for conversation and games, the dining room table for our home cooked meals, and enjoyed the screen porch while having our morning coffee. This was a convenient location for us to take the ferry to the mainland and attend a concert at Big Top Chatauqua, a fantastic concert venue. We so appreciated the comfort of our lodgings. Thank you!
There were two things we enjoyed most about the property; the fact that it was set back from the main road so that the children who were with us could roam a little more freely and that the interior of the house is open and had large seating areas where everyone could be comfortable and talk. (Or play board games or cards at the big dining table).
Nothing was missing that you would reasonably expect or want in a vacation rental. There was more room to park than a property in town so if you have people driving separately from multiple locations, you won't have to shuffle cars around as people come and go.
Plan to pack a lunch and walk down to the north shore access as the trailhead is just north of this property.
Wonderful live entertainment at 'Tom's Burned Down Cafe.'
